I have no idea how he held it together through this entire performance. I watched this funeral in a hotel room in Orlando, and I was in tears as soon as he said 'England's Rose'. Unbelievable performance for an amazing person who was taken from us far too soon. RIP Diana.
I remember when this was released. Even 26 years later, it still makes me cry. I remember hearing about her death. I got home late from work, and the news said she'd been in a wreck. An hour later, her death was announced. I cried so much.
I am an American, but felt like she was my princess too! After hearing of the accident I cried myself to sleep, upon waking the next morning, I heard of her passing, I immediately called my mom, I was sobbing she's dead mom! They killed her! They really killed her! My mom cried right along with me. Diana was my hero! I loved everything about her! Her love as a mother, her charity work, her class and even her fashion sense! During the funeral procession as her coffin passed the crowds lining the streets, someone started clapping, something that had never been done before, the proper English thing to do to honour the person who had passed away, as their coffin passed before you, was to bow your head and remain silent, but Princess Diana's loss couldn't just be observed in silence... The clapping took hold from person to person, street to street, reaching out to everyone watching on television, joining everyone together in their feelings of sadness, of loss but also honouring Princess Diana's memory, showing the gratitude and love that the entire population had for her as a person and the amazing things she had done 🕊️🙏😢

Never saw this I watched on TV and cried as much now as I did then....she still touches our hearts and he was simple superb. How he sand that a keep it together is amazing. Love for Diana is as strong today as then....we need more people like her...our hate is only making the devil stronger...God Bless...she has beautiful wings......
I remember lady Diana. She was the kindest person i have ever known until today. She truly had a big heart. She was an angel per definition. When i heard the news that she was dead i was on a holiday trip in swiss with my parents. We were all shocked! This song really touched millions of people if not billions worldwide!
I have a copy of that very song by Elton on CD and it's never been opened to this day. Elton released only a limited number of them to the public after the funeral.
We were about 15kl away from the accident when it happened . When we returned home we got off the ferry and England was closed, we did not see another vehicle from Plymouth to Newark upon Trent, it was the day of Dianas funeral. Never forget that holiday.... Still brings tears to my eyes all these years later....we lost our english rose for sure...
Elton made that piano sing with him that day, he has always been great with the piano but something high above us guided his hands in this poignant and heartfelt tribute nothing less for kind and brave Lady D who became a sister to him (and for whom i feel nothing less for what she did for the community me Elton and millions of other people are a part of; a royal doing what she did for us in the time frame she operated in...the real royal born queen of england).
Princess Diana was such a strong woman. She gave so much love to the world but had so little for herself. Her whole story is so sad. But at her funeral, where the whole world was crying for her and listening to Sir Elton John's voice, I really hope that heaven exists and she could see it from above and see how much she was loved. Gosh, I still have to cry when I see this.
Спасибо ,что я услышала песню в исполнении Элтона Джона,посвященную принцессе Диане. Даже не зная перевода,хочется плакать потому,что музыка и исполнение передают боль утраты.
Imagine how Diana would be today. Proud of her two loves of her life and the way she'd be with her grandchildren. If Diana was alive today Charlotte would be stuck to Diana like glue as Diana would shower all her grandchildren with continued love ♥️♥️♥️♥️
If this performance doesn’t make you cry there is some broken in your soul. The greatest thing is that Elton has never sung this version again. Which is how it should be…
Elton John said after the funeral that he would never perform "Candle in the Wind" again. A once only performance. How he managed to do it on that so sad day I'll never know. It's just reduced me to tears again😢
I bawl every single time I hear this!!! I'm an AMercian but believed that she was all of our princess. So beloved and cared for. She will live on for ever.
IMHO, One of the greatest live performances of all time. Under the duress of the circumstances, he was flawless.
Absolutely agree, I remember watching it live astounded that he got through that note perfect.
I agree, how he held it together during that performance I'll never know!
you could see he had cried before his performance because he was all red-eyed, but he sang it beautifully.

Goodbye England's Rose
May you ever grow in our hearts
You were the grace that placed itself
Where lives were torn apart
You called out to our country
And you whispered to those in pain
Now you belong to heaven
And the stars spell out your name
And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never fading with the sunset
When the rain set in
And your footsteps will always fall here
Along England's greenest hills
Your candle's burned out long before
Your legend ever will
Loveliness we've lost
These empty days without your smile
This torch we'll always carry
For our nation's golden child
And even though we try
The truth brings us to tears
All our words cannot express
The joy you brought us through the years
And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never fading with the sunset
When the rain set in
And your footsteps will always fall here
Along England's greenest hills
Your candle's burned out long before
Your legend ever will
Goodbye England's rose
May you ever grow in our hearts
You were the grace that placed itself
Where lives were torn apart
Goodbye England's rose
From a country lost without your soul
Who'll miss the wings of your compassion
More than you'll ever know
And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never fading with the sunset
When the rain set in
And your footsteps will always fall here
Along England's greenest hills
Your candle's burned out long before
Your legend ever will

Love for Diana is as strong today as then....we need more people like her...our hate is only making the devil stronger...God Bless...she has beautiful wings......
I remember lady Diana. She was the kindest person i have ever known until today. She truly had a big heart. She was an angel per definition. When i heard the news that she was dead i was on a holiday trip in swiss with my parents. We were all shocked! This song really touched millions of people if not billions worldwide!
Greatest song of all time bravo Elton John
Made me cry again 🙏💖
What a sad, sad day. What a stoic performance 👏
every time i hear that song, i need to cry. i saw it in tv when it was happened all to the british family, but this song makes it all much more sad
Chills throughout the song. 😢
I am sitting here crying because this song takes me back to the funeral. Thank you 🙏
Elton made that piano sing with him that day, he has always been great with the piano but something high above us guided his hands in this poignant and heartfelt tribute nothing less for kind and brave Lady D who became a sister to him (and for whom i feel nothing less for what she did for the community me Elton and millions of other people are a part of; a royal doing what she did for us in the time frame she operated in...the real royal born queen of england).
Remember that day. I cried then and tears are appearing now.
I still cry every time I hear this song 😢
My favourite song of all time
Princess Diana was a great humanitarian
It seemed like we lost, or heaven gained, 2 angels at almost the same time. We love you Princess Di and Mother Theresa, rest in peace.
Originally there was suppose to be a line about the press hounding her.
This is the day i woke up ! She is an Angel of humanity.♥️⬜️
She was a bright light in many dark places.
.
Rip Princess Diana you were a blessing in this world gone too soon
Спасибо ,что я услышала песню в исполнении Элтона Джона,посвященную принцессе Диане. Даже не зная перевода,хочется плакать потому,что музыка и исполнение передают боль утраты.
That’s why music is truly the universal language.
Has me in tears every listen. As you say, the perfect tribute.
Imagine how Diana would be today. Proud of her two loves of her life and the way she'd be with her grandchildren. If Diana was alive today Charlotte would be stuck to Diana like glue as Diana would shower all her grandchildren with continued love ♥️♥️♥️♥️
Era a princesa do mundo
Watched in live , balled my eyes out!!!!
Late Queen Diana so unique there is not another like her even after thousands year.
My deeply respect to her.
Till today she is an icoon.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Miss you every day princess
Her legacy will in the very near future, be the King of England.
She was the pride of my country And the pain you could see in every face at the funeral says it all
I bawl every single time I hear this!!! I'm an AMercian but believed that she was all of our princess. So beloved and cared for. She will live on for ever.
I watched her funeral live. I cried then and cried again today.
Great song although sad circumstances and I cry everytime at “and your footsteps will always fall here, along England’s greenest hills”
I don't think you will find a single person here in the UK who didn't love Diana she was truly special ❤
I was there outside Westminster Abbey how Elton John kept it together is behond me he was just amazing. 🇬🇧
