Welcome back to The Kneady Homesteader Channel where tonight we are making the best Holiday Chocolate and Orange Braided Sweetened Condensed Milk Bread. Sweet and tender.....soft and fluffy....this bread is the perfect bread to serve this holiday season.

1 Tbsp instant yeast
1 cup slightly warm whole milk
2 Tbsp sugar
¼ cup sweetened condensed milk
3¼ cups all purpose flour
1 egg
1 tsp sea salt
Vanilla extract
¼ cup & 3 Tbsp soften butter
Sweetened condensed milk
Cocoa powder
1 egg for egg wash
Mix first 7 ingredients. While mixing add 1 tsp of vanilla. Add more flour if sticky. Add ¼ cup soften butter. Scrape out dough and shape into a ball. Cut in half. Add 1 ball to bowl, add ¼ tsp of orange extract or vanilla. Knead for 5 mins. Set aside out of bowl and cover. Get other ball, put in bowl. In separate bowl add ⅓ cup sweetened condensed milk and 3 Tbsp black cocoa powder. Mix well, add quickly to dough, mix and knead for 5 mins. If to wet add little flour. Put 2 dough balls in separate bowls, spray with oil to keep from drying out and cover. Let rise for 1‐1½ hours. Deflate both balls and take out off balls and roll out into a rectangle. Lay orange on top of the chocolate so that the edges line up. Cut the bottom ⅔ into 4 sections. Cut each section into 3 strips. One section at a time twist 3 strips and braid. Repeat for other 3 sections. Put braids together. Start at top and roll tightly all the way down. Put in a buttered bread pan. Cover and rise for about 45 mins until doubled in size. Top it with egg wash (1 egg, 1 tsp water). Bake @ 375°F 30-35 mins. Mix 3 Tbsp of sweetened condensed milk and butter- glaze. Put glaze on bread right after baking. Let cool before cutting.

But this year I’m going to make it for a few friends over the holidays. Orange chocolate is a big thing here . I made a sourdough variation of this beautiful bread several times... to rave reviews. I had never made a braided bread before. I did it with orange and chocolate once, and vanilla and chocolate another time, and once I even wrapped each strand of braid around almond paste. Omg!

Oh my the combinations would be endless with this bread. How about lemon with cranberries or blueberries with a lemon glaze or chocolate and white chocolate with a orange glaze or white chocolate with cranberries with a white chocolate glaze, ??????????? endless.
How would you make it blueberry? New to bread making myself so I'm eating up all the knowledge I possibly can. Thanks for any ideas, it is greatly appreciated 😊

I don't know if there's such a thing as blueberry flavoring, like there is vanilla, raspberry, almond etc
For the blue berries themselves, when I use them fresh or frozen in baking, I always smash up some of what the recipe calls for..If a recipe calls for 2 cups of blueberries, I would take a 1/2 - 3/4 cup aside and smash them up with a potato masher, or use my emerson blender on them..A couple reasons why..To release the flavor of the berries and secondly so they don't occupy alot of space in the batter.
I have been very successful baking with regular all purpose flour..bread flour is a whole different ball game. Using bread flour, my breads have come out heavy and doughy in flavor but rose better than all purpose flour..I've made cinnamon bread with bread flour twice and this is what has happened.
I've been very successful with pepperoni cheese bread..Made that twice as well but with regular all purpose flour..I followed Heather's recipe for the dough but added my own ingredients.
