: mother joni always finds the most interesting and spine-shivering notes in any chord structure she's working with. man...the way she feels it and delivers it to us to feel.
Better than the original. I once read an interview with Nick Mason where he said that he felt Joni's "Court and Spark" album was better than "Dark Side of the Moon". She is a musical genius.
I understand that everyone has their own taste and that they’re entitled to their own opinion and I truly respect that. However- Roger chose her for a reason. Joni is a true legend. She was singing about us destroying the earth a half a century ago, and doing it with a style and the Grace like no other. It’s unfair to compare this to Floyd. She’s not singing Floyd. She’s singing a song BY Floyd. You either try to replicate a cover, or you do your own version. I think that she may have did a bit of each. Do you want her to sound just like Roger and David? Then play the album. This was a live version that marked a moment in history. A fine “Well Done” to anybody who had a hand in preserving it -Forever. “Tear down this Wall.”
A who's who of legendary RRHOF artists! Playing one of Pink Foyds Finest works of art live in Berlin after the fall of the Berlin Wall! Very fitting back drop! Awesome concert! I wish I could of been there!
It's about taste, Joni singing Floyd is not going to be ordinary no matter how the circumstance is. I'm just lucky I like it. But how Roger got the idea and got her to do it in the first place....interesting, to say the least
They've dusted the skies of Los Angeles with chems for years now. (she's probably one of the many victims of the stuff) mix in the smog and the Fukushima poisons One of her early songs said she preferred her foods 'without the DDT'. irony....
That's a faked live version of the Wall - live in Berlin - event. Joni made a mistake in the real live performance with a false single note and was angry about it. Unfortunately that was the best performance, gave me shivers. I still have that on tape. Obviosly they recorded this version here afterwards and put it in. I would much more prefered the'd blank out the false note and leve the rest untouched.
This version would be perfect if the other singers weren't so high in the mix. Their harmonizing is great but I can barely tell when Joni is singing, no wonder she had to sing some "fills" between phrases to make her voice noticeable. There's another singer with a similar timbre to her which doesn't help.
I don’t care for how Joni sings this. She seems to be embellishing too much. The orchestrations and the chorus don’t help much. She should’ve sang this like she sang in the 70s.
The armchair critics could have done it better art is very subjective a great moment in history and musical history joni put her stamp on it which is what Roger would have wanted her to do what did you want it to sound like the record grow up not good enough for you guys go and do better.??
@@phillacey878 While I respect your opinion, the adage 'I'm not a farmer, but I know horse dung when I smell it' leaps to mind. Perhaps when you yourself grow up, you will finally come to the realization that in art, everyone is an armchair critic, and without dissenting tastes, it would stagnate. Surely you will agree that no one wants that.
@@harveyvid One man's ceiling is another man's floor a live concert of this magnitude with mostly different people playing this magnificent antiwar piece is going to have a different perspective its not like the record that's what makes it great like l said art is very subjective critics are not usually artist but they think they know it better than the people who do it all the best.
@@phillacey878 We all like what we all like, Phil. There are numerous other artists who cover songs that I find pleasing to the ear, others I find not so much. They bring their own spin on the piece of work, and that is terrific. Some sound too.....over-engineered? To me, this is one example. You like Joni Mitchell's version of this? Good. You are not wrong in liking it, as it is your prerogative. I do not, and that is mine.
She fuqd this song up bad period. Take up for her if you want to, but my ears had a damn stroke. The only person worse than her was Fergie singing the national anthem.
I just get the vibe that she thinks her artistic impression is so 'up there' and magnificent that u should be humbled at the fact that she even considered that she would warble at ur poxy little song let alone actually get up on stage and do it - Do i actually feel this? Is this really the vibe i get? Am i being too harsh? or do i just think it is a piss poor effort and she literally murdered a great song?
Your entitled to your opinion as irrelevant as it may be one of the greatest Pink Floyd songs by one of the greatest singers of all time you were in the extreme minority but that's art it's very subjective one man's dinner is another man's shit.
Personally I think she performed this perfectly she was the right choice and sung beautifully
idk why people rip on joni for performing a song that's right up her alley, which is why roger chose this song for her. beautifully done
Joni Mitchell is The Ruler of The Cosmos

Is there anyway you could transmit it to mp3? I’d be forever grateful
Perfectly right ! I still remember the live performance with the mistake on TV and I was sincerely sorry for Joni that time.......
