In this video I am attempting to put a handle on a Spyderco Woodcraft Mule! This isn't a tutorial I've never done it before, this is just me having a go to see if I can manage it.

@@Leodis.Leather thanks for responding - that's too bad. i can follow what you do here pretty well and this video will be very helpful now that i've got one of the new mules, but if you happen to know of any other good resources i'd be happy to check them out too. thanks again

What kind of compound did you use on the buffing wheel? You did a wonderful job! Thanks for sharing this project with us.

Stabilized wood uses a liquid polymer (plastic) that is placed in a vacuum chamber (sometimes a plastic vacuum bag) and they pour in the stabilizer with the wood and place it under several inches of vacuum to help the wood to suck in the plastic. After a certain amount of time the wood is removed from the bag and allowed to cure.

stabilized wood is good but you don't need to use it. it can be a costly process to send it away and even then it is really hard to find a guy that can do it right. if you can find a oily hard hard wood you should be fine.

You can very effectively remove any unhardened epoxy that has ended up on the outside of the scales (or any other surface) by wiping with acetone. Seeing as you're already using epoxy in the handling process, it's a very convenient method.
