New additions to the farm

We have new goats on the farm! 14 Spanish Boer cross goats are getting trained to electric fencing in our training lot. Our neighbor stopped by and gave us a bucket full of bare root Chestnut trees raised by Mark Shepard. It's a combination of American Chinese hybrid Chestnuts and Chinese Chestnuts from New Forest Farm, Mark Shepard's operation. So we spend the afternoon planting trees and trying a new mycorrhizal fungus powder treatment as we plant them. Using tree tubes for protection and some spoiled hay for mulch, we give these Chestnut trees the best start we can on our pasture. 26 acres that was converted from crop land 2 years ago and is just starting to show the signs of good soil health.

Beautiful goats! Oh my Poppa-lotsa, loved seeing her pregnant belly, there was a time I thought she'd never be a mother. Everything is coming along, what exciting pasture and tree plans you have. Joey, my condolences on the loss of your cousin. Your message is timely for me.
