I recorded that video already over a year ago... I can't remember these unfortunately, sorry........ All I know is that I used either a Rode NT1 or a good ol' shure 57, because that's the 2 only mics I had available at home during full lockdown:)))
Hello Sir, just discovering your generous shared material here, and i'm very grateful ! One Q before to add this instrument to my set (was thinking about since a long time) : do you recommend only this deluxe size of Afuche (sounds good but a bit heavy), or you consider the size just below (Standard) is good first to learn/practice and PLAY ACOUSTIC LIVE in small café concert (weekly brazilian jam intown) ?
Hi Gilles! Glad you enjoyed it! You said it all: the deluxe one sounds great, but is quite loud and especially heavy, so I would definitely the lighter ''standard'' version both for gigging and practicing. All the best!
No unfortunately I personally haven't done any tutorial so far... But you should find plenty of these already on RUclips (that's one of the reason I'm not doing any of these at the moment, as I'm trying to contribute with something that is less easy to find on the web). Do check out Jim Greiner's videos (I myself learnt the cabasa roll wrist movement from one of his videos long ago:):)) ruclips.net/video/GjloLKypkv8/видео.html You can also try this gentleman: World Drum Club (very active channel with plenty of good quality material - for cabasa, among others - for all levels) ruclips.net/channel/UCoHRTcC-DTYaHdIbErwyDxQ Cheers!
Beautiful tone and skills you have! Would you be kind to share if you have tamed any nasty frequencies above 10 kHz in this recording, if any ? Or do you usually cut those frequencies when needed? Thank you very much!
Thanks!! Done the video about 2 years ago, indeed I had to do little EQ, but can't remember exactly the details sorry.... I do remember though boosting a bit lower frequencies to get more audible in the recording the difference between bass (palm) and treble (phalanges) hits with the left hand, which with proper technique are very audible in dry/acoustic conditions but were not rendered as clearly as I wanted with my mic (again, can't remember exactly which microphone I used, but I think I used a dynamic mic, not a condenser)

this man is playing drum & bass breaks with a cabasa. Incredible.

You should check the video of the guy that plays bleed by messhuggah just by clapping.
You can make a beat with literally anything.

This is insane, I had no idea the cabasa could be played to such a high degree, or even like this at all

Curious about how did you mic your instrument for this recording. Could you please give us details about microphone choice, EQ, and mic placement ?

Can you suggest a lesser advanced technique to practice? Do you have any simpler videos with the Cabasa?

Would you allow this to be sampled and used in a song? Would love to use it.
As long as it respects the boundaries of ''fair use'' and that you credit your source...:)
