8:24 Starting a song on a minor chord does not necessary mean that it's a minor scale/chord progression.
What's more reliable is to go by where a song ends. Songs are much more likely to end on the first note or chord of the key. And, that makes sense because the end is where you want everything to come to a stop.
So, if a song is using chords all from C major/A minor and it ends on a C chord, it's in the key of C major. If, instead, it ends on an Am chord, it's in the key of A minor.
You can also look to the melody of a song and notice where it ends. Melodies typically resolve to the tonic note of the key.
Again, if a song's melody notes all fit within C major/A minor and the final melody note is C, it's in C major. If it ends on A, it's in A minor. Usually the final chord and note will resolve to the same major or minor tonic.

Outstanding work. Relating what you were doing to those confusing scales on the push and editing it in a way easy to follow by practicing alongside was really agréable. Very cool to introduce aeolian modes and all that jazz that’s just been plain confusing for years I had given up on figuring it out. You revived my soul today sir, be blessed💥🌞

I just commented on the previous video but it’s more clear to me that you prob just keep the Push in C Major regardless of what key you are playing in.

I really have gotten a lot out of your videos! So I definitely appreciate them. I do have a question for you. Does it matter what scale mode you’re in? I mean as long as you’re in chromatic mode does it matter what scale it’s in? Are all the notes the same no matter what scale you’re in and scale colors just help you and do you just stay in one scale mode every time? I actually have the Akai force but it has the same functionality and I’m just thinking that I should just stay in one of the scale modes and learn the numbers of the note so I know where to go but I definitely appreciate everything you’ve done to help understand the core layout on these devices and I’m just really appreciative and have learned so much thank you.

Thanks! This is great. Do the same concpets apply to other pad instruments like Midi Fighter 64 and Launchpad? Do they all work similarly? I'm pretty new to this. :D

but in A minor song there is (very often) E 7 chord with a G# which is not a note of the mode, how do you do?
