Just getting started listening to the video and my first comment is that Shannon didn't invent the word bit, he was just the first to publish it. In his 1948 paper he credits the invention of the term to J.W. Tukey on page one of the paper. John Tukey was a co-worker at Bell Labs who came up with the term bit as an abbreviation for binary digit.
