Alexander may have defeated Porus or not, but he could never conquer India.
Porus was only a border king, and beyond the Punjab were the great Mahajanapadas like Magadha. Moreover, mosquitos and India's tropical diseases were a real nightmare for any invading force.
And remember, India at the time was almost 70% dense jungles with no way to supply troops or navigate through.

In simple words, Alexander failed to conquer india. Because he never came near the present day India. Alexander was supposed to fight against Chandragupt maurya and Chanakya, but he never appeared for this war. A man so eager to win the world didn’t face his enemy and decided to go back😀. Moreover he never fought any war after this. Why? Simply because he was already dead. They declared his death many days after they left india to save their face. Chanakya was a genius and he knew how to use sor slow poison effectively.

Really though? I mean, Indian nationalist really do love to spin any obscure history to make "stronk ancient Indians", but you really cant do that in case of Alexander. Alexander's life was very heavily documented to the finer details, with every one of his minor and major battles. Particularly in case of his fight with King Purushottam. There's a 4 hour video in "Kings and Generals" channel that gives you more insight, and on his expeditions and return from India. I can't understand why people of the region in India where Alexander is said to have conquered have the name "Sikander"( Indianised version of Alexander) even after 2500 years, if he was just one of those thousands of Invaders in the region, or even more absurd claim if yours, why would his name be popular if we was just a defeated general two millenia ago in Punjab?

If Indian say Sikandar . it's is not Alexander. As for Seleucus Nicator is sikander he was one of the general who took care of a piece of land bordering India today's Pakistan and Afghanistan. And one more thing Alexander didn't cross the river Indus . King purushotam is not a real big king his small tribal chief with army of 40 to 120 war elephant an army less than 10,000. They want to save face of Alexander. How can they say to their people he didn't even defeat a small king of India. and also this war didn't end this war is stopped by the retreat of the Alexander because of failure of him fighting with King porus.
      Edit:
Greek historians says King porus is the one of the biggest king in Indian and also he have a very big empire in subcontinent but he is not.
Indian historians at that time the world's biggest and most popular university at that time is called takshashila & Nalanda they didn't mention King porus as the king .
