    Aww, he looks just like my boy Harry . Long coarse piggy hair picks up the smells of wee and 💩! I bathed both mine last week using your tips and it was much easier. I'm so glad this was helpful. However clean you keep a cage some piggies just get mucky much quicker and this piggy is one of them! Even if they don't like it the first time they will probably be a bit calmer next time and the calmer you are the better they will be. First time is always a little scary! I bet your piggies looked and smelt goorgeous afterwards! x

    • @GuineaPiggles
      @GuineaPiggles  3 года назад +4

      Hi Evie, thank you for your comment and I'm glad you're loving our videos! I would recommend bathing as and when they need them. If they're not dirty then they don't really need a bath. But every 3-6 months is fine and more often if necessary. If you have short haired guinea pigs, you probably won't need to do this very often but long haired guinea pigs can get a bit muckier. With long-haired piggies, keeping their coat short around the bum area can help prevent matted hair and tangles. You might want too check out our page on bathing here www.guineapiggles.co.uk/can-you-bathe-a-guinea-pig - I hope that helps :)

      A wash should be fine. It might be worth looking at whether certain areas of the cage need more regular cleaning because short haired piggies don't usually get too dirty. This will save you the stress of having to bathe more regularly :)

      A few people have asked this question and I always say that the most important thing for parents is that they are confident you'll be responsible when it comes to remembering to care for them, eg, regular cleaning, feeding etc. Maybe ask them if you can do some chores on a regular basis to show them how responsible you are. Also, maybe if you could save some of your own money to buy all the things they need and offer to pay for some of their food when you get them if this is possible. I hope that helps :)

      It is actually fine to bathe a guinea pig. You need to make sure your guinea pig is safe and can't get harmed in any way. Alternatively you could use a damp cotton wool ball with just water but it's not so easy to get them properly clean.

      You need to take your guinea pig to the vet. There is something wrong and he needs to be checked asap. We know a lot about guinea pigs but we aren't vets so can't give medical advice or try to diagnose what might be wrong just from a symptom. You piggy needs to be seen in person by someone who is qualified. It's important to get them looked at asap as the longer it's left the worse it's likely to get and this could be really dangerous for your guinea pig.

      @@vminkook297 We'll be doing a video on nail cutting in the future but you can find out a bit more on our website here www.guineapiggles.co.uk/how-to-cut-guinea-pig-nails. Cutting nails is not the easiest job and many people find it difficult but again some piggies are more challenging than others like your wriggly Abyssinians! You might find it easier to take them to the vet for clipping. Rescue centres also sometimes offer this service. Abyssinians shouldn't get dirty too quickly as they are short haired so just make sure their housing is kept super clean because that will save having to bathe them so much :) You might like this video on how to do a full cage clean ruclips.net/video/j9a2rILnnM0/видео.html - what type of bedding do you use in your cage by the way?

      @@GuineaPiggles thank you and is it ok to give the pigs a bath even when they do not smell..............like once a week ._.

    • @GuineaPiggles
      @GuineaPiggles  3 года назад +1

      They should only really be bathed when they need it because it isn't something they particularly like so once a week is too often. I would say every 3-6 months but if they begin to smell or look dirty they'll need one before then.

    is it ok to not trim them?

    • @GuineaPiggles
      @GuineaPiggles  3 года назад

      Long haired guinea pigs do need trimming or they can get dirty hair and their hair can get damp around their rear when it is too long. But short haired piggies don't need trimming.

      Yes, baby shampoo is usually very mild so should be fine to use.

      Getting one is really not recommended most likely you will see it as a chore and to only get one you will have to be with it 24/7

      I don't know what cat shampoo has in it so I can't really say but would recommend Head and Shoulders shampoo as it has anti-fungal properties.

      Thank you for saying this. I cannot believe human shampoo has been used. Never use human shampoo as it contains harsh chemicals. A simple google search tells us this, and common sense.

    Too much water, don´t use shampoo and don´t rinse the water from a tap. Washing should not be done unless for medical reasons and especially not so wet. Educate yourself before you upload nonsense tutorials.
