  • I was able to put the Rocky S2V Tactical boots to the test of ruck marching 1,000 miles. They stood up remarkably well and demonstrated the high quality of this boots.

    How do these boot uppers look brand new after 950 miles ? That’s incredible. The fact they stand up even is great

    • @TheEvolvingWarfighter
      @TheEvolvingWarfighter  3 года назад +13

      They are certainly great boots. Although, I have to admit that I was walking mostly on concrete. I am sure if they had spent hundred of miles walking off-road and off-trail the uppers would have probably received more wear and tear.

    I got mine in AIT and have been rocking these boots for almost 7 years now. I’ve had a couple other pairs come along the way to replace them, but I always ended up going back to the Rocky’s just because of how sturdy and comfortable they are. I’ve worn them for every ruck March, every field exercise, and the age shows. The soles are smoothed out and the layer above the sole is starting to show, the rivets are starting to bend out and pop up (I just mash them back down or glue them), and the rubber above the stitching is almost dry rot/chipped away in some places. But they still keep my feet warm, comfortable, and dry for the most part. 10/10 would buy again but I’ll probably still be wearing these ones for the next 3 years

    Getting 1000 miles out of any footwear is amazing. I have a tough time finding boots that fit me well. The 10W S2Vs were too narrow, but the 10.5W might be too long for me. I've been trying some different lacing methods to stop my foot from moving inside.

      I found the S2V Enhanced Jungle boots to be slightly wider, especially in the midfoot area than the S2V Tactical boots. They are a lighter boot with far less padding but they might be a better fit for you.

    had these boots too. they served 5 years and around 2000 miles and a lot of garden work. the main problem with this boot are the stitched. i went to a shoe maker several times to fix this. it wasn expensive (~10€ every time) but its annoying. the boot itself is like a sneaker and really comfy. after 5 years i switched to the meindl desert fox which is even better, but its has a bit thicker material.

    GoRuck MACV-1s. They make an AR-670-1 compliant version if that’s your thing. They’re stupid light, basically broken in from the first time you put them on. I’ve worn mine everyday for the past 18 months. Rucking and working...and weekends. Hands down the best boot I’ve ever owned.

    Would you recommend these boots for humid/ jungle conditions? I live in Florida some I’m looking for something that’s gonna be rugged and handle the constant rain, terrific video btw quick and to the like while still being enjoyable to watch 👍

    • @TheEvolvingWarfighter
      @TheEvolvingWarfighter  3 года назад

      These are the fastest drying boots that I have tested. They truly have a "walk dry" feature as the venting of the boots will draw in air and push out water with every step (the vents on these boots are much closer to the sole than a standard combat boot). They were specifically designed to handle Jungle warfare, so I have no doubt they they would work well in Florida. If you decide to pick up a pair I would love to hear your opinion of them after you have tried them for a while.

      @@TheEvolvingWarfighterwould these boots be any good in colder wet climates, i am in new zealand that has a climate similar to england that is quite wet and cold for most seasons would the “walk dry” still work?

    • @TheEvolvingWarfighter
      @TheEvolvingWarfighter  11 месяцев назад

      @@jilesbraeden To some degree it would but remember, these are still a padded boot that will retain some degree of moisture. You may want to consider the S2V Enhanced Jungle boot if your main concern is wet weather. With a good pair of wool socks, they would keep your feet drier. With padded sole wool socks, the Jungle boots managed to keep my feet warm all the way down to freezing temperature as long as I was active. I also found the Jungle boots have a longer service life. Thank you for this awesome review~!
    I tend to see a on many used and reviews Rocky's s2v, that their soles get immensely flattened. I'm no expert and have no real idea how soles perform in general for heavy users like you, but my cheap sneakers soles stay fit even 5-6 years after purchase but with pretty gentle use, a lot of sitting daily...
    How would you rate this soles with your experience? how long do usualy soles last for heavy users like you?
    thank you in advance ^_^

    • @TheEvolvingWarfighter
      @TheEvolvingWarfighter  3 года назад +3

      The soles are made by Vibram. This company is pretty much the standards for military boot soles and are used by multiple boot companies (although Vibram makes a custom design for Rocky). Due to the tread design, I have found the the S2V Enhanced Jungle boots are wearing better than the S2V Tactical boot. The jungle boots seem to have wider lugs with more contact with the ground. I was pretty impressed with these boots for their longevity. In heavy combat use, I would expect them to last maybe 6 months. In comparison, I destroyed a couple pairs of Belleville boots in Iraq in 4 months. I will be producing a review of the S2V Jungle boots in the next few months and hope to move on to test Rocky's entry level boots (general military issue) to help give a comparison between these premium S2V series boots and what the basic equipment is typically issued. So I hope you stayed tuned.

    Would you recommend the S2V or the Lowa Zephyrs? Full disclosure. I am not active duty or in the military. Civilian whos passionate about these footwear.
    Usage would be occasional runs around town, and for occasional hikes. Looking to use these for the next 2-3 years.

    • @TheEvolvingWarfighter
      @TheEvolvingWarfighter  Год назад

      I am afraid I have no experience with Lowa. The Rocky S2V is a good boot for general use. They should hold up well. Another similar boot to consider that might be slighty more durible is the Haix Combat Hero (around $185 on Amazon). The Haix might be a better idea for longterm use as they can be resoled. (Working on my review on them this coming weekend). The Rocky S2V line cannot be resoled.

    What’s the difference between the tactical and predator?

    • @TheEvolvingWarfighter
      @TheEvolvingWarfighter  2 года назад +1

      Good day. I am afraid that I haven't tested the predator boots so anything I can offer is just second hand. It appears that the location that boots are made may be the major difference. The Tactical boots is stated to be US made (Puerto Rico). I am unsure where the Predator boots are made. It looks like they share the same sole. I cannot speak for the fit or padding. If you are looking for a boot specifically for field usage, I actually recommend the Rocky Enhanced Jungle boots. However, the Tactical boot is more padded (comfortable) and is probably better suited for daily wear that isn't always in a tactical/training environment.

    If you're _not_ a military member, the S2V come in a "predator" version. The S2V predators are better than the normal S2V's in every way, _except_ they're not AR670-1 complaint. Because of this, there's less demand, and they cost a LOT less, even though they're more feature rich. (Some of those features make them non complaint.)
    Same reason Crye is so expensive. You're paying for compliance and a contract name.

    • @TheEvolvingWarfighter
      @TheEvolvingWarfighter  3 года назад +1

      I found them to run pretty consistent with Nike shoes if that helps. However, you typically want boots to be slightly larger then tennis shoe to provide enough toe room when going down slope. So you may want to go up a half size.
