Yeah that makes sense. Now that I think about it, back in high school I did have a good number of friends who enjoyed darker manga like Berserk. I guess I'm basing my argument off of my own tastes at the time, which definitely leaned more towards the light-hearted stuff haha.

well i have to say that D.gray-man is more original than any other shonen nowadays, the overall theme is dark and sad, character development is superb in my opinion, it became very underrated in last few years and even more so after switching to monthly. give it a chance man

I just remember that I was left with the impression that the series was trying to force some sort of overall theme onto me, which is fine, but I think I was dissatisfied with the lack of subtlety or something. I am a big fan of this manga, i agree with almost everything you said. Bu I didnt quite love the ending, not the "ending" as how it ends, but the last chapters as it seems that Seishi squeezed the story and finished it quickly without giving much attention to some aspects. One aspect that feel it become empty was that many angels and demons were not given their part, we saw them in a flash. Hmm maybe I need to brush up on my definition of shounen. BUT even then, is it still fair to compare 666 Satan to the big three? A series like One Piece or Naruto has strong appeal to people of say, 11 to 12 years old or possibly younger while O-Parts doesn't. It's a stretch to even say it appeals to 15 year old teens, but I guess that's preference. If the definition of shounen is as you say, then I think the demographic should be further sub-divided when comparing one series to another.

In my opinion, it's more of a seinen manga and when compared to other manga that aim at the same demographic, I'd consider it mediocre. Everything that happened after that sky city arc felt convoluted and preachy.

Naruto completely change's that by changing Sasuke for the better and surviving. Thus ending the long feud between the brothers proving that you can change your destiny which is a major theme in the series.
Naruto´s maturity is cheap it doesnt match the ninja theme it tried to set up and commonly disregarded previously established rules, by asspull power ups that make very little sense, Might Gai surviving 8 gates, because jesus, Kabuto being owned by Izanagi, Nagato negating all in deaths in the invasion of Konoha, Obito being "The coolest guy" Madara being sabotaged for having righteous world view that was hardly countered, all Naruto said was in response was like "but it´s all fake", when he was already going on a guaranteed path to achieve his dream whereas many other people werent and wasnt exposed for that by Maddy, etc... Along many others
BlackMangaTV Naruto definitely has a better beginning and imo has one of the best beginnings in a manga/anime PERIOD, but as the show progresses it gets worse and worse and worse n it really is sad because Naruto used to be my favourite antagonist EVER, but this reincarnation n prophecy literally killed everything that Naruto stood for in part 1 (hard work will overcome talent)
