I have been following you for like 2 years or something now. There has not been a single time that I don't feel like being cooked as opposed to the rest of the 'tutorial makers' on the site. You are a brilliant teacher and keep up the good work :D
Thanks for the advice, Robyn! I'm a self taught graphic designer and currently I'm doing personal projects projects for my portfolio. Your thoughts really motivate me to keep going.
As an illustrator, learning animation to try and bring my own characters to life, is my current passion project! Thank you for your help, your video’s are so helpful! 😍
Hey Robyn! :) You really nailed it on this video. The importance of planning regardless of the discipline is vital and keeps us on track. As a creative I think there is also a therapeutic aspect as too. Some creatives are very empathetic but perhaps not always the best communicators. However we use music, film, drawing, painting, etc. to express ourselves. I think a true "passion project" helps a great deal and adds substantial value to a shot or story as it's not just a vanilla walk cycle or a character aimlessly wandering around a scene with no real goal. I think it may be a good part 2 for this video to elaborate a bit on making a compelling story.
Hey Pete! Absolutely , it’s very therapeutic for me, if I don’t have any personal projects on the go I tend to get pretty depressed (obviously this isn’t the case for everyone, but I do just find doing my own projects very cathartic and therapeutic ) and it helps us process things and as you say, express ourselves . That’s a great idea for another video to focus on creating compelling stories, thanks for the suggestion !
@@RobynO_O I agree. I think we get stuck in the typical "Boy meets girl... blah, blah,. blah." There's a lack of story or the same story / pattern over and over. We all have so many unique stories to tell and outcomes that were not typical. Yet those never see the light of day.
@@PeterRobieArt Yeah, I wish there were more different stories out there, but I do think that with how easily accessible public platforms are and people's requests for more diversity in media have started turning the tide there. I'm loving seeing new and different stories and conten, and I hope more people will let their unique ideas see the light of day
In your B-roll at about 0:50, you show a point and click interface in AE for selecting mouths! How did you set that up? That would save me so much time!!!
Okay, so far I can get a similar effect using the clone tool on an adjustment layer, but I still can't get the on-screen controls like you have. Am I on the right track?
Okay, I think I'm pretty much there now- or I found a suitable workout. So I created a shape layer, and parented the position of the clone brush to that shape layer- animating with hold keyframes. That *pretty much* gets me the same workflow I see you using, although I notice your example seems to lock into place, and for me I'm still targeting the mouths by hand, so matching location is still not automated...but getting much closer! I'm guessing I have to enable a "snap" or "auto-align" function or something...it's been a long time since I did animating in AE, and I forgot a lot of the "language" it uses. Thank you for the inspiration!
@@justpaul899 glad you managed to work something out! I used DUIK. I put copies of all the phonemes in a row like you see there on my slider to have a visual reference in my main comp. I also have a precomp with all the phoneme layers in it, and all of the layers are only a frame long, and sequnced one after the other, so if you scrub through, each frame is a new mouth pose. Then in the main comp, set time remap on the precomp with the mouth poses in it. Set a key in the time remap at the same frame as the last mouth pose in your precomp. With DUIK, create a slider in the main comp, make it fit the row of mouth poses that are being used as a visual reference. then I linked the time remap on the precomp of the mouth poses to the slider
you're welcome :) the software you use will depend on your needs and what animation you do. You can check out this video though, it goes through your options ruclips.net/video/w57pqVHirC0/видео.htmlsi=WjIpLFA_JhcxWEqp
Nice one. So many awesome nuggets I was wishing RUclips had a feature where you could drop a like at each one. Was tempted to unlike and relike for each one. Hope you'll have a bulleted list of these for your Patreons.

That's great, I'm so glad to hear that my videos help! Keep going on those personal projects, they're going to make your portfolio look awesome!
amazing Robyn, you know how i feel about this topic. 100000 percent agree!
Thanks Hubert ! Yeah it’s sooo necessary for people to spend time on personal projects !

Im so glad to hear that, you're welcome!
this came at the perfect time. I have been so tired of working and being stagnant in my career
Glad to hear it's relevant to you! Hopefully a personal project will help you get out of that feeling

You’re welcome 😊
its cool that her kids let her use their room.
Hi Robyn, I had a question for you. How important is drawing realistic things if I want to pursue 2D animation? Thanks.

Hello! Thanks for the videos. Can you also recommend animation software. Thanks much

Hi, i have a question out of the topic, as you too dont have the 480p option, do you know why, I've tried searching for the answer but there is none,
I see there's a 1080p option
Sorry , I have no idea why !

Thanks Warwick! That is a great idea for my Patrons, I will absolutely upload a list
