    Man when I first started this would of been a really great vid to help me understand the numbers on the discs more and how they can fly depending on how you throw them. I didn't have much help and just thought it would be fun to play and help with my weight loss. Ended up being both as I lost 120lbs and have had a lot of fun in my first full year of playing.

    I love that you encourage creating a share bag with beginner discs! My disc golf journey started when someone gave me a disc out at a park, and because of his generosity... 30 years later I strive to always have some extra beginner friendly discs with me in case I run into new players. Who knows, you could be the one that gives the next Gannon Buhr his or her first disc.

    Yes! The Ozone changed my game. Been playing for 6 months now, grabbed the ozone about a month ago and I'm in love! I would also say the whole Trash Panda starter set is an awesome beginner set!

    I absolutely HATED the Zone's flight but loved the feel when I first tried it. I knew this was totally on me and this was a disc I needed to LEARN to throw. I did a lot of Zone-only rounds to force myself to learn what I could do with it. I think for a beginner, finding discs that are designed to do different things is great, but finding discs that feel good creates a connection that will encourage learning how to work with those discs.

    When I was a beginner, I knew very little about disc flights and was never told, "Avoid the distance drivers!" So, I ended up with a very mixed bag that had the spectrum of different types. I was a bit surprised when I could throw my putters about the same distance as the "distance drivers", which, of course, was because I didn't have the arm speed (still don't really have the arm speed). But the Latitude 64 River (a fairway driver) flew like a dream for me, and typically outpaced any other disc I threw. Therefore, that would be my recommendation for a beginner disc.

    Robbie. I am new at the sport and started watching your videos. I started grabbing the 12 speed disc and started ripping and was getting nowhere and getting frustrated. I watch this video and i followed your directions. My bag has Innova IT, Podigy M2 and Lat 64 Faith. My game improved from having a +8 on 9 baskets to a +4 on the same course. I am getting ready to purchase a PIG and looking at a few more you recommend. Thanks a million for the help in Smyrna De.

      From what I've learned is, a disc with high speed needs to be thrown by someone who can whip it out there really far. Otherwise a fast disc will dive to fast and not stay flat very long. Mid range disc are your friend, they stay flat longer.

    Some great recommendations here, Robbie. I'd consider myself just one notch above beginner, and my favorite mid is a Mako3 (5/5/0/0). I also bag a Lat64 Fuse (5/6/-2/1). My kids throw a Buzzz (5/4/-1/1), which is probably the most popular mid out there.
    I bag both the Pure and Zone, which you mentioned, as approach discs. There are sooo many good putters out there. It really comes down to how they feel in your hand. Find something with a rim width and rim depth that feel most comfortable for you. I personally prefer thicker rims, flatter discs, and no bead, so I ended up going with the MVP Atom as my putter.
    I bag a lot of fairway drivers at various stabilities to get the right disc for each tee shot. My favs are the Leopard3 (7/5/-2/1) and Underworld (7/6/-3/1), but an IT and Diamond are really good, too. For forehands, I use a TL (7/5/-1/1), but I think the Hawkeye has the same numbers.

    I have been giving friends a starter bag of a baseline plastic neutral putter (link, etc); slightly overs-table approach disc that can act as a reliable OS mid, FH and approaches (tempo); slightly under stable 5 speed (uplink, etc) and a neutral to US 6-7 speed FW (crave, brave).
    That is all they really need for s while until the crave is going over 300’. Especially the tempo, it fills so many shots until you have enough power to see a difference between OS putts and mids.

    Hey Mr RUclips Man - I've got a question/video recommendation for you: What form do I teach to a brand new player with no prior disc experience?
    I've brought several ultimate buddies to disc golf and can give them a paradox and they can effectively throw straight and enjoy the sport. But I recently brought a complete newbie and had a bit of trouble figuring out what backhand form I could teach them in 5-20 minutes. Does disc golf have a simplified "teeball" form that we should start off with, before really getting into the sport and learning whip/lag/etc? Should we teach them to pull the disc, even though they'll need to break that habit later? What are the key points for getting a beginner to throw straight enough to avoid frustration?
    What does the ideal beginner form look like?

    The Pig's a given...
    Mine (White R-Pro) is so beat-up its a slightly flippy 3, 1, -1.5, 1. Nice soft rubbery plastic, I've retired it for now but I had my personal best on my local with the Pig only...
    including paring a 760ft uphill par 5 that I struggle to par with my full bag on an average day. I have a personal best flex put of 101ft with the pig (same hole, #7, Berhampore Wn NZ)
    Love the pig for flex high and right putts where it peters out of spin and falls 45deg left into the basket.. and if not, in a nice 2m radius.
    The Pig was my go-to 150ft upshot. (I could have run a "Pig, Beast, Diamond, Scorch" bag and been happy.
    (Still bag all but the Pig.. and have a new R-Pro sitting in the bleachers but the profile is VERY different, the old rim is more tucked under yet flatter top)
    My Recommendations...
    Putter:
    An MVP Proxy. Any noobs I let loose with it, with little instruction, can get a straighter flight to the basket... I have a Cosmic soft, Plasma, 2 DFx glow and a DFx Skullboy...
    What I also like is all are different plastic and age but generally fly the same... I can yeet it about 80m on a good day and it doesn't go too wayward (also par'd #7 with it).
    Driver:
    A Champion Beast... It will fly fairly straight with a good fade except in strong headwinds.. and fairly much stays that way (mine is the same now as it was new, 3 years later.
    Best advice to a new player... If you think your going to make a thing of Disc Golf... DON'T buy cheap plastic... They get damaged real quick, especially at the hands of our old nemesis Trees...
    My Beast, Diamond, Scorch and Superhero all are 3 years old and still fly very much the same as when I got them...
    My starter pack DX plastic beast is more hexagon than round, after the 1st year... Base plastic still have a great place, my RPM Ruru putter is MORE GRIPPY when wet.. AMAZINGLY GRIPPY!

    • @pretty-how
      @pretty-how 3 месяца назад +1

      It's less likely. People overcompensate release angle and try like hell to throw their arm out to make an overstable disc throw straight. Understable discs call for proper release angle, and controlled arm speed for a good throw

  • @shawnwhite1645

    Hey Robbie, so, remember back when you were doing a series of the best discs for beginners - the battle of the 1 speeds, 2 speeds, etc.? I thought those videos would have been in a playlist and better marked to be able to find again. But, I can't seem to find them that way. I did see there's a beetle vs. glitch video, nova vs. watt video, and maybe even a pure vs. something else video, but I wish they had the name or parenthetical name of "3 speed battle", etc. If you could make those changes so they were easier to find, I think that would be great for beginners to find. BTW, how high did those videos go? I forgot. Also, while I was looking through your past videos (looking for those videos) I saw you did a 5-best discs for beginners video back on day 12 of Vlogmas last year. Looks like 3 of the 5 are still the same as today's video (The Origin, Pure, and Uplink). What caused you to replace the A5 and the IT w/the Aviar X3 and the Ozone?

  • @rodneylove8023
    @rodneylove8023 3 месяца назад +1

    So correct me if I'm wrong; but I was told to identify disc stability, is to add the last 2 numbers. If they equal near zero, it is neutral. If they equal a negative number they are understable, and equal positive, they are over stable. As a beginner I really try to avoid the left fade.

    • @samz1108
      @samz1108 3 месяца назад

      I would say for the most part, that is a good tactic to use to determine if a disc is overstable or understable. However, flight numbers can lie, and also depends on what plastic the disc is in. For instance an Innova Roadrunner is listed as 9/5/-4/1. Based on the last 2 numbers, you’d think extremely understable. Well if you get that disc in DX plastic, you’d be right. Get that disc in champion or halo star plastic, and it will fly way more stable than the numbers suggest.
      Here’s an example of two discs in my bag. I have a Dynamic Discs Trespass (12/5/-0.5/3) and a Latitude 64 Grace (11/6/-1/2). Based on the last 2 numbers you would think my Trespass would be more stable than my Grace (2.5 vs 1). In reality, my Grace is more stable than my Trespass, and my Trespass is more of my slightly understable driver and my Grace is my slightly more stable driver.
      Point is, a disc will fly differently for you than for other people, so the best thing you do is to throw it, see how it flies for you and build your bag based on that.

      I second what Samz said, but also factor in weight. Discs in the 170-180g range will fly more overstable than discs in the 150-160g range.

    How bout a video for us older folks that struggle to keep the distance we once had. I seek out the understable fareway drivers and have stopped carrying anything above a 10 speed. getting old really sucks but we are all headed in that direction. I guess most people my age have already quit the sport cause every time I look at age division tournaments there are very few in my age group and I would have to compete against "kids" 20 years younger. in January 2025 I could compete in MA70 div (if I could find others).
