    Some labels have a selection of genres on LabelRadar that is completely different from what they actually release.
    Also, the genre definition for a track is sometimes a gray area, e.g. is it Progressive-House or Progressive-Trance? Is it Dance or Electro-House?
    So sometimes it's impossible to avoid the "don't send the wrong genre" situation.
    For this reason, a great addition to LabelRadar would be to have the ability to choose 2 or 3 genres that a track can fall into.

    • @EDMTips
      @EDMTips  10 месяцев назад +1

      Great suggestion! It is indeed hard as genres interwine and ovelap, but the best way I found to do it is to listen to the label you would like to submit your track to and see if your music will fit into their current roster.

    Great content. I think this is highly valuable to your audience. I have a question, the music we make contains samples, that’s what we’re into and that’s what we like doing, however this does pose issues. Do you have any advice for producers making music like this? For example take LF systems ’afraid to feel’ hit last year - originally was a massive sample - are labels going to be interested in this type of thing off the bat or does it present too many issues /costs that put labels off?…do they need to see support from djs first before signing? If the answer is yes then the next question to follow on from this video surely is ‘what’s the best way to get your music to active high profile djs??(which let’s face it is really not that easy nowadays) love to know your opinion on this topic

Unless your music is pretty awesome but then why waste your time with radar label ? I tried it months ago, nothing happened, I am probably crap , I know ...lol. But..I am quite puzzled. It would be interesting for you to do a vid on things labels actually do for artists, all I ever hear is what artists have to do for the labels and it sounds like they have to do most of the heavy lifting, so what is the label fee going towards apart from being part of a "name" ?

    • @Barfunkel
      @Barfunkel 11 месяцев назад

      Maybe, but then again, when you check out any charts (be it Beatport or uk top 10 or massive amounts of spotify plays or whatever), it's hardly ever DIY self released music. Bandcamp exists but to be honest, I don't remember anyone getting famous there, with no label support at all.

    • @Bthelick
      @Bthelick 10 месяцев назад +4

      Agreed. As professional of a decade and a half in the industry My advice regarding labels is to only sign if they have the inherent pre-bought connections to live venues that you have already assessed are essential for your growth.
      Beyond that labels have lost all power.
      And this 'music first' approach is incredibly naive imo. It's not how it works in the real world. A track is nothing in a vacuum, and nothing without a brand / story. Labels have rapidly deteriorating power to influence the zeitgeist and therefore your reputation, and they absolutely do not have the budget to break an artist from cold anymore. That's a minimum of 500k. You would have to be discussing with Sony universal act and it would have to be a predetermined brand deal including 360 of merchandise sync etc already sewn up.

      I totally agree. Not to crap on the site at all. I enjoy the opportunity label radar gives us music producers but for the past 2 years, I've had a handfull of small record labels reach out showing interest on a few tracks i sent out . Just for them to slap the "well we have a mastering programm so that your track can be thoroughly produced and showcased" which has a price. When you start asking questions back to them on finding alternative ways to mastering or even self mastering they would completely ignore you... Beauty part is, if you do just a small amount of research on the label and find out the artist under their banner..it's hardly worth the price or risk. But best of luck to all the hard working producers and labels. 🙏

    Does anyone have experience with sending music to promoters on Label Radar? From what I see in the comments, like labels asking for promotion money upfront from the artists etc. it seems like you don't need a label for that. Then its better to pay a promoter yourself and you can have more control of it (for instance, you can keep the rights to your music yourself). Releasing on platforms is dead easy these days. The only thing you need a label for is actually the promotion and the connections they have with DJ's, but like I said that can also be done with promoters.

    To avoid the problem of submitting the an inappropriate genre, I would be helpful to learn how to recognize which genre one's track is actually in. The excessive subgenrefication of EDM is, frankly, unnecessarily complicated. It feels more like a tool for snobbery than a tool for conveying meaningful differences.

    I have a sort of unrelated/but related question. I have been asked to do a remix of a somewhat famous producer, as well as 'won' a remix contest by another producer who said they would both release my remix at some point. They both said they loved it and would release it. But neither of them ever did. Is this because they didn't actually like the remix, or, perhaps my mix was not clean enough? I'm just curious if this has ever happened to you or others and what's normally the reason if there is one? Is it weird to follow up? I also hesitate to upload them to my soundcloud because i'm thinking it would deflate true release process. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
