Great reaction!🥰 Oushi is just very overprotective. He isn't just another childhood friend who's love is unrequited, it's also included in the story to show the difference between him and Itsu. Oushi would lock her up and never let her outside just so nothing bad will ever happen to her, if it was up to him (he put it a little differently this episode but that's basically what he meant and it just makes me uncomfortable). Itsuomi is the complete opposite. He is protective too (like in the first episode when he was walking her home and he pulled her into him and switched sides with her bc of the moped) but with Itsu it's situational protectiveness, meaning he protects her everytime she's in danger, but doesn't want to lock her up so she never gets a chance to get into any trouble in the first place. Itsu wants to show her the world and wants her to experience things, because that's what Yuki wants too. She longs for more, like she said this episode. It just shows why Oushi would be no good for her, because he would suffocate her with his overprotectiveness and his fixation on her disability. While Itsu turns her disability into something beautiful in it's own way and just lifts her up, her spirit just skyrockets with him around her while it always diminishes the second Oushi shows up. I like that the childhood friend trope isn't just used here to stir the drama but it's used to show the viewers why Itsu and Yuki are so right for each other by comparing it to Oushi.
Thank you for commenting. Glad you enjoyed the reaction! That's a very good explanation! In hindsight, we definitely see how over-protective of it. Him and Itsuomi are definitely going to be contrasting characters. I wonder why Oushi become so over-protective her though. It will be good to see it play out. We can't wait to see episode 3.
Aww that's sweet, he's learning Spanish for you and your grandma 🥺 I'm glad y'all enjoy this show, I love the manga, it's such a wonderful work not just for the romance and how great of a character both Yuki and Itsuomi are but also the use of sign language. I assume it makes people with disabilities like Yuki happy to be represented in media
Yeah, I think the manga is going to be another one for Amy's collection. Currently working on the latest releases of Sailor Moon. And about the show: yeah, I think that's exactly that. A show to resonate with people that are hard of hearing is great!
I know childhood friend/second ML syndrom is common joke, but in this case Itsuomi is really better for Yuki than Oushi. As much as Oushi cares about Yuki this episode already showed us the groundwork why he has no chance with Yuki. He treats her as weak animal needing protection. When his friend suggested inviting her and Rin to drinking party, the first thing he says is that she's deaf. Not only it was uncalled for, it had nothing to do with it. In his eyes Yuki is not fit for normal social life, because she's deaf. He doesn't want her to do anything out of her comfort zone and what could put her in any potential danger, because be believes she can't handle it compare to "normal" people. When he sees she's getting closer with Itsuomi he straight tells her "don't get carried away", as in, "falling for him will only get you hurt, so stop it, it's not your place". And lastly, his words "why did you have to go to collage", because he thinks it's not place for poor Yuki that can't handle the outside world on her own. Tl;dr he's both overprotective of her, which is not good for her and also defines her through her disability. Don't want to spoil anything from next episode, but it'll become crystal-clear there that he has no chance with Yuki, which I honestly appreciate, cos I hate those forced love triangles, that you know lead nowhere, but are still there for like entire story. Also while "childhood friend" is the usual way that word is translated, it is a bit of misleading, as the "friend" part is optional. It's more to indicated you know someone since you were young, w/e you were close or not or are still close depends completely on the specific relationship between characters. Their relationship should become clear next episode as well. The reason why Yuki has fallen for Itsuomi is not just that he's good looking and nice to her, but exactly because he doesn't treat her as someone with disability. While he's very accommodating, he still often does things other people would feel too cautious to do, like constant invasion of personal space. Yuki likes it, because he treats her as any other girl, which allowed her to feel "normal" and develop feelings like any other girl would. Sure, maybe it could end up badly, if Itsuomi wasn't the kind of person he is, and I can understand why many people got red flag-vibes from him early on, but still that's the point. Yuki should be allowed to experiment and try things out herself and if it ends up being mistake, she'll learn from it, but just keeping her in safe space her entire life and not letting her experience anything out of ordinary is just not good for her. Anyway, this story is incredibly good. It's pretty much the best romance story I have ever read and I'm so glad anime does such great job adapting it so far. The sound design is great and there's many added or extended scenes that weren't in the manga, so we still only covered like first 4 chapters or so, while not really skipping any content. It's a really good sing of good adaptation. It's story with no forced drama or unnecessary conflict. Entire focus is on characters communicating with each other and it still manages to be interesting and tense at times. And, whenever some drama do show up, it's also resolved through talking. Seriously, other stories, learn from it >.>
It does seem like that in hindsight. I have a feeling, the more he see her being with Itsuomi, the more extreme he's going to get with her. That's my theory.
Love this episode!! 🫶🏻 Next episode is going to be really good!! 🤭😆 So please look forward to episode 3! It’s going to be more good from episode 3!! 😭🫶🏻

Tbh family and friends of disabled people tend to overly shelter them/ patronize them unintentionally @@SliceOfRustronamy
