- Here's the second and longer part of the Backyard Bridge Build. This will take us up to installing the driving surface which I have not purchased yet. There is a waterproof membrane on the top of the beams and I will also be installing a sheet metal protective cap over that before the top goes on. Thanks for tuning back in to this short holiday series and I'm hoping to be back next week with the next Modern House update.

My favorite thing I learned from this video would have to be the rope tied to the cross members to temporarily suspend them in place. So simple, work smarter not harder! Another great video, another project built to last.
You know the jobs serious when the hole hog shows up and finally someone that can run a rake
haha yup, dewalt DW124. It would probably turn the world if you could figure out how to attach the chuck...:-)
Wow ... from the view I have it sure looks good. Jake you nailed it ... ummm ... well you know what I mean. Thanks.
I'm glad you found this one too! (spoiler alert, theres' a part 3 coming:-)
Love that bolt container! Yuban coffee is my favorite!
I can't bring myself to throw them away. I do miss the days of the all metal can tho, I think it tasted better. Thanks for checking out the channel!
I like the way you build, everything overkill and safe.
Good Job . Great Video, Keep them Coming, from Ocala Florida, USA
I'm not too far, up in Jacksonville.
Thanks, will do!
I am catching up and getting a feel for the area.
Really, really great - Better than any home made creek bridge I've seen on You Tube - Capt Kleeman, Andrew Camarratta, etc, could learn from your design sir -
Those were my exact thoughts.
this guy has a cool playground to be able to build stuff on
Excellent work! That will last as long as the wood holds up. Great engineering.
Thanks for that! I plan on capping the the beams with sheet metal as well to give it as much time as i can.
@@ShredPile When you brought in the plywood, I at first thought it was metal. I was confused until I saw the why of it. Much respect to you, sir!!
Weld the seams to make it watertight. But you certainly don't need advice from the likes of me. ;)
Sir I do believe that bridge is going to easy outlive you and the next owner of this property. Great way to rig the long ties to the tele-handler and the tracked dump sure is a unique and valuable piece of equipment and the time it saves carrying material to extreme spots and not getting stuck. I tip my hat to your building style Sir.
Thank you! I've been keeping my eyes open for the next size up track dump but in the mean time this one can pretty much turn itself around in it's own tracks so I'm not sure I'd get rid of it if I found a bigger one:-)
Second on the 2x4 and rope trick for the cross member! Awesome! It's like a "duh" moment... Like damn, why didn't i think of that. Great video thank you.
As beautiful as Bridge over the River Kwai!
Looking forward to seeing the next segment
What a build, that thing could outlast a whole army crossing the creek!
👍👍👍
Thanks Horst. Happy New Year’s!
While you have everything exposed you should get a bucket or two of creosote and coat the whole beam to make it last a lot longer. Just remember to keep the tension and compression in balance and that any joints are strongly connected. If you have any silicone caulk, run some along the top of the plates where they meet the wood and around the base of the bolt heads. Less water penetration that way.
No need to go to the gym after swinging that sledge! Nice work...things look really nice!
That tracked dumper, so bloody handy ..... extremely jealous.
So handy, it's ridiculous how much it will carry too. It weighs 3 ton and will carry 2-1/2 ton.
There's a job on the other side of that bridge in the works that's gonna test it too:-)
Good job, greetings from Spain!
¡Gracias por sintonizarnos!
That's a wonderful job sir😊
You are a hard working man. Nice work!
Well done.
Absolutely beautiful job Jake, looks as if it belongs there.
Nice job Jake. One of the best DIY bridges I have seen built. When you first crossed the bridge with the beam and the mini I did not see any deflection at all. Looks like the steel added to form a truss did its job. Hopefully we will see the finished product with the deck laid down in the future.
Thanks for that! Yeah that camera angle was specifically to determine if there was a deflection. I’ll absolutely make a video out of the deck on it when I do it, I guess that will be video part three of two :-)
I've seen a few DIY bridge builds on YT. This is definitely the most impressive that I've seen.
Loving the vids. I use to smash those bolts with a sledgehammer when i did iron work. Lots and lots of bolts
Well, great foot bridge.....for a 22 ton Bay City crane or the like..LOL Nice work Man!! Glad you showed it under operation with the run off. Tracking in the AB and rain sure tightened up your ramps on both sides! Good content , keep it up!
Thanks, happy new year! Yeah that reject sets up like concrete. There was a lot of footage I left out of me hacking at it to grade it out when I was leveling the approach beams :-)
What a fantastic project and thanks for the videos.
Looks like you got that done just in time. 👍Happy New Year!
Thanks, You too!
love the long j-hook rebar and driven posts…that’s an approach that will last!
happy new year ✌️
Thanks for that and same to you!
Awesome Job!!
great work.
ecologic and biowork, organic materials and a pacience man.
I'm glad the video found it's way to you.
Should do the job for a few years...lol
Some steel expanded /mesh/ plate..a toll booth snd bobs yer uncle...
I've been shopping for some salvaged grating, think I finally found some:-)
Thank you for using a rake and not a leaf blower.....
I like your job, tools and especially the little track dump! Looking great l enjoy watching!
I appreciate that, thanks.
That sqare bar between the 2 timbers not going to stop them shifting. It just shift both left an right. You need 3 3/4" re-bars 6 feet long in each timber driven into the ground to ancers them in place. I done tons of timber retaing walls garters being we get 7 foot frost I put rebar down 10 feet on the bottom row an 3 foot on each above row
Sounds like you build Hella stout but the frost light around here at the deepest is 20 inches. That square bar will absolutely keep them moving from left to right because of the post I put in on each inside. If anything they might move up and down a little bit But it won’t be from frost.
Want more of this
You got it:-)
Reinforce the left bank of the creek where the concrete footings are.
lol, I’ll get a crew right on it.
@@ShredPile I’m quite serious about what I wrote. Not an insult in any form.
Let's see. Welder, talented Telehandler operator, skilled carpenter, bridge builder, any chance you're a gold prospector too? Any chance you're going to disclose your plans for the other side of the creek you built the bridge over? I assume that this is your property? Can you explain, Shredpile?
Sure:-) It is my property and the bridge gives me year round small machinery access to the couple acres that are on the other side of it to where I plan to keep rehabbing the forest after some careless logging 30 years ago. There are some plans for a small cabin and campsite but that's at the far end of a long list of other things to do:-)
And no, not a prospector but I have always wondered about a few creeks around and maybe someday......
God bless THE USA🏁 💚🤍❤
Thats a badass bridge man... cant wait to see it finished! It didnt even flex under those machines, any idea what it will hold?
So far at least 8000# :-). I don’t need it to hold too much more then that although I’m sure it will. I just have to be able to get the small dozer across it and that little dumper with a sled full of concrete across it at some point. I appreciate you tuning in!
get a blower for the leafs
haha, got one! It wasn't worth going after it for just those couple leaves:-)
What does the bridge lead to?
It goes to the top end of my property that I’ve been working on and off on for years. I’ve got a couple little projects planned back there and I need four season and this will let me do that.
Stout
What state are you in?
Northwestern Oregon
Doesn’t look finished
Haha, good eye! Stay tuned for part 3 of two!
