5 FOODS TO TRY IN CANADA + CANADIANS SAYING SORRY | Eileen Aldis

- While we're home in the land of the true north strong and free, Marc and I really wanted to fill up on all the delicious Canadian foods you can find here. We were at home one morning trying to decide what to have when I realized we didn't have to decide...we could eat them ALL! We wanted to make a video about it to introduce you to five foods to try in Canada. The first food we went for is poutine. This was created in rural Quebec in the 1950s and has spread far and wide because it's simply delicious. There are many variations now, but the authentic original is French fries loaded with gravy and cheese curds. Not just any cheese, cheese CURDS. We went to a Canadian chain called Smoke's Poutinerie and the guy who served us was super awesome. He even gave us a free t-shirt - so nice! After that we indulged our sweet tooth with Nanaimo bars - a childhood favourite of mine. Hailing from - you guessed it - Nanaimo, British Columbia on the west coast of Canada, these bars are made with three layers: coconut and chocolate, custard, and chocolate. We found a spot to eat them surrounded by enthusiastic Canada Geese, which seemed very appropriate. Next on our Canada hit list was butter tarts. These originated in the prairies during pioneer times. They're individually-sized desserts: a flaky pastry and sweet filling. Sometimes you'll find raisins or nuts in there as well. Needing a break from all the sweets, Marc and I grabbed two bags of our favourite Canadian chips: ketchup for me and dill pickle for him. The story goes that ketchup chips were invented by Hostess Potato chips in the 1970s but marketed exclusively in Canada. They were a huge hit and have been on shelves here ever since. Dill pickle is uniquely Canadian. When we lived in Australia and I went home to visit Canada, they were the one thing Marc asked me to bring him back. To end off a day of debauchery, we had Tiger Tail ice cream at a local spot in my hometown of London, Ontario. This is really popular amongst Canadian kids (and big kids like us). It's orange ice cream with black liquorice swirls. There are lots more Canadian foods we love so maybe we'll do another video like this on another trip home to Canada. We hope you enjoyed this vlog - please give it a thumbs up if you'd like to see more food videos!

Which one of these Canadian foods is your favourite?
poutine, all the way! Though I have had some delicious burgers over the years. Bison, seal, moose...
Wow, I think that qualifies as adventurous eating...! I'm with you on the poutine but it's hard to choose :)
Number 1, poutine !!!!! There is a place in Chatham here that has pulled pork poutine as well as other varieties, it is absolutely delicious !
Poutine is generally tops for me but enjoying Nanaimo Bars on a warm afternoon OR (for adults) on a cold evening with the fire going and a glass of your favorite alcoholic beverage (I like them with either port or Canadian whiskey).
If there's a #6...I'm looking forward to enjoying my first Beavertails this coming year. 8 times in Canada and never had one yet, can you believe it!
I’m posted to CFB Kingston now and the poutine all around here is 10/10 the only thing so far is I don’t find sorry is used at much as in NB :(
I'm U.S American (latino) born and raised , but i can honestly say that Canada, and Canadians should be the leader and example of this planet , i have nothing but respect towards Canadians.
That's very kind, Ivan. Thanks :)
Thank you! 🇲🇽🇨🇦
At least you don't have to deal with Trudeau. #maga
Jacob Miller Yup ;) Trump is our Tom Brady of America! I feel bad for you guys tho. I hope you guys select a better PM for next year in Canadian Parliament. 👍
Thanksyou
this is so spot on. i agree that we canadians love these foods. it boggles me why they're not popular all over the world. it's literally the best food.
Nice! It is surprising that at least some of these haven't made their way more globally. Although I did find a poutine place in Melbourne once...not the same though without real cheese curds though haha 🧀
Chris Kerr I know right? What’s your absolute favourite Canadian food? 👍✅😁
You are so CANADIAN!! haha I loved this. Great job guys! It all looks so yummy. -Ash
hahah #MapleLeafForever. Thanks so much, Ash! This was obviously quite a fun video to make because we got to eat all the things! :)
Canadians seem really similar to New Zealanders. We are always saying sorry. I found Canadians friendly and helpful when a visited a few years ago. I've heard that Australia is more like the states.
New Zealand is often called Australia's Canada. 😝
Amy Rivers that’s interesting! I’ve met some New Zealanders and they were all actually really nice! 👍✅

.
Nyles Andrews sounds like a fantastic combo! 🤤
What’s your favourite chips?
Rippled, fried or baked?
I was pretty chill throughout the video, like nothing was making me hungry but then you pulled out ketchup chips. I love ketchup chips and now I’m hungry.

Tiger Tail was a popular pick when I worked at Baskin Robbins.
Cool! I can believe it :)
Anything with pastry that has a filling, I always eat the filling first and then the pastry. I adore pastry!
Mmm pastry with filling! 😋
A place you always have to go in Canada is Tim Hortons. They are pretty much everywhere. Also Canadian coloured skittles are quite fun and festive.

It looks very simple In colombia all the food is well prepared; this dish is something all us can do in therir homes that I like :)
02:13 ...yeah Canadians are quite polite and humble❤️❤️
El Poutine se ve muy rico, fue mi favorito de todos!
¡excelente opcion! Todavía tengo que conocer a una persona que no le gusta la poutine :)
zCristian 👍👍👍
This video came up on a the sidebar while I was watching another video. I really wanted to see what you think people should try when they come to Canada and then BAM you're from my hometown. 😂 In the brief moments before you started talking I thought the park in the background looked familiar! haha I live in England now, so it was nice to watch this and have some hometown and homeland familiarity! You've really made me crave a poutine now!
Hi Sydney! What a coincidence! Yes, London is my hometown too :) Whereabouts in England do you live now? Do you miss any other foods from Canada?
Hey Eileen! I've been here about three months now. I live in a town about an hour north of London, but I am still trying to figure out where I want to settle. I'm considering Liverpool! My mum just sent me a package actually and i've got a bag of ketchup chips that's calling my name.👌🏻
That's fun that you're figuring out your next move! 🇬🇧 I love England - have never been to Liverpool though! That's so awesome that your Mom sent a care package. Enjoy those ketchup chips....now I'm craving some too haha 🤤
Sydney Schouten awesome that you could have a little reminder of home! How is England going for you? Wishing you all the best in the new year! ✅🇨🇦👍😁
I'll be in Canada in October and I will try all the good stuff you guys did in this video!
Awesome! Hope you enjoy these treats! :)
Try chocolate ,go to a Dollar Rama Store and get some Smarties ,Coffee Crisp, Aero Bar KitKat bars a peanut butter style Wunder Bar, a Jersey Milk Bar .
When i moved to Montreal i didn’t know what to expect. Now i am never moving away ❤️
superb
Ahh, I may have seen & thinking of this video, when Marc described the poutine as "squidgy", just like you did in the Belarus-food video to call the Babka "squidgy",.. That's too funny. THe Nanaimo bars are very much something that has to be exclusively Canadian, as I'm betting most anyone in the US hasn't heard of them, unless having spent time visiting around up there. Butter Tarts are yet another dessert that we've never heard of, being south of the border of there. Finally, your 'Tiger Tail' ice cream, sounds interesting, but as I'm totally not a fan of black licorice, so debatable to want to try it. I'd try a very small spoon of it once I think but that's it. Anyway, I loved watching the video. Take care.
Very good
poutine made at home is the best, st-hubert bio sauce with cavendish thin fries and boivin's cheese curds is my secret recipe
SO TASTY---------MY FAVOURITE IS NANAIMO BARS------YUM
They're DELICIOUS!
Hmm... So lovely, I visited Northwestern Ontario n stayed there for a while
Cool! Which part were you in?
I was in Atikokan, Fort Frances and Dryden.... Just loved and missed it now..... From Bali and WA No. +6287860677067
Hi, Eileen.... I am from Bali Indonesia
I just found your channel and have subscribed! Didn't know you are Canadian! You live up the 402, an hour away from me!
Oh how lovely! What a small big country we have ;)
The sorry thing so true
Merci beaucoup pour votre video top bien expliqué super cool et trop mignon 😁👍👍👍👍
Orange ice cream with black liquorice!? That sounds good!
I know haha! Genius. It’s so good 😋
love canada can't wait travel
I love that poutine place 😋My favourite one has bacon, fries and gravy(I don’t like melted cheese and yes I know I’m weird)😋😛
Hey Abigail! That one sounds yummy too :) Do you avoid all kinds of melted cheese or just the cheese curd kind on poutine?
I avoid all kinds of melted cheese 🧀 😝😛
You'll guys are too cool.
Very good work mind-blowing presentation ❤️ Love from INDIA 🙏
Thanks! Love back 💕
Cool
Very nice
Thanks!
Tiger stripe ice cream exists beyond the Stoney Creek Dairy(R.I.P.)? Why am I just learning this?
It certainly does :) 🍦
Ed Stephens Stoney creek? Is that in Alberta?
Wow yummy
Had to Google about ice cream. Origin from Canada and only Canada serves it. On my bucket list when I come up again wish I knew last time I went 😉 ty for sharing. I'm such a foodie I git to try everything in other countries 🤣
Hey Mandy! I hope you enjoy Tiger Tail when you try it! As you said next time you come "up" I assume you're from the US :) Whereabouts do you call home?
Heyy I am from Germany and i need this "film" for school 😂😂

Can't wait to go to Canada this summer (2020) with God's will!
Awesome! Hope you enjoy my home country :)
POUTINE IS LIFE. Seriously. I love being born here for that.
Haha too true! 🙌🇨🇦
The truest Canadian chip mix is either all dressed chips, or the original which was Ketchup, Sour Cream and Onion, Dill Pickle and Ranch all poured together.
Its chaotic good at its finest. Also tastes so damn good.
That is an epic sounding mix!
I'm glad you've seen my comment, get a big bowl and you should try the mix using the small "1 person" bags!
Cheers from another loving Canadian! I wish you the best of luck!
@@Skizzeckz Next time I'm in Canada I'm ON it ;)
Had poutine in Nova Scotia. Tasty!!! We’re from Florence SC. 😎👍
Wonderful! I'm glad you enjoyed it - I agree it's delicious 🤤 Greetings to you in SC!

Poutine is Québécois!
poutine is my favorite food ,its bloody delicious
Agree it’s delicious!
@@EileenAldis as a canadien i love eating poutine
I'm a Canadian and I've never had poutine. Growing up on the west coast it just wasn't a thing and now that I'm older I'm more conscious of what I eat. Having said that, the poutine at Popeyes Louisiana Chicken would be the one I'd try if I wasn't in Quebec.
Hope you enjoy it if you give it a try. I haven't heard of the one at Popeyes until now but pls do report if it's good :)
Eileen Aldis I had it and I don’t like it, the fries are too salty and the gravy isnt the best
Have you been to Golden
It's a nice town
Nanaimos bar looks delicious
It is! Childhood favourite of mine ❤️
I am of Brazil , end love food 🥰❤️🇧🇷
Greetings to you in Brazil! 😀

Hello! Welcome to our channel :) Greetings to you in Indonesia!

I am a culinary fan. and always want to know various cuisines from anywhere.
Thanks for introducing some Canadian food. i would love to make it.
Greetings from Indonesia, a country that has many kinds of very delicious cuisine.
If you're curious, some of them you can find on our channel.
OMFG. I live in london and had my first ice cream at Merla Mae's. Very relatable.
Cool! We used to go there frequently after my brother's soccer games as kids. :)
What about beaver tails and donaires???
Ashers Mc Beavertails and Donairs! I always get beaver tails when I go to Banff! 🤤 Also I just had a donair for dinner! 🤣🤣
it looks tasty! what about beaver tails? maple syroup?
It was, Eduardo! Those are both such good suggestions. We realized when we got thinking about it that we could easily make this a whole series....maybe those can be in a part 2?!
It seems that canadian food is somewhat equal to 'junk'/'candy food, and that is great because I love junk food. Inlcude also timmys (timbits, maple boston cream, etc.) in a later video on Canadian food... I will be looking forward to watch it
I would agree. Any food that's some combination of savory, smoky, salty, sweet. Any or all five of their top 5 hit on this formula and I agree Beaver Tails and maple syrup would be great here as well. Looking fwd to my QC trip for tourtière, smoked meat, poutine, Sortilege, etc.
That is good
Eduardo oh yah beaver tails are sooo good! I got the triple trip in Banff Reece’s one! 🤤
Nanaimo bars are good -- but you can't eat more then two bites before its just too much. They are best in little squares.
They are very rich indeed.
We call poutine chips and gravy in England
Falou de comida já chego dropando o like
Desculpe, não entendi a tradução.
@@EileenAldis I said, You talk food I drop the like
It looks tasty!!!
It is!
I love Poontang!
Looking sooo beautiful
I knew i wouldn't see donair... at least not yet!! Best food in nova scotia!
Need to do another video...! :)
The butter tarts are like pecan pie without the pecans..
Great job Eileen, my fave is putine. cheers
Thanks, Ricardo! Good choice :)
Oh that’s interesting, we actually have tomato sauce flavoured chips in Australia 🇦🇺. That’s our version of ketchup.
How wonderful you live in Australia! Marc and I used to live there (in Sydney and Melbourne) and I did my Master's there. We miss it and can't wait to come back. Whereabouts are you from?
@@EileenAldis I live in Perth but am originally from a country town called Mt Magnet.
@@debbiedarcy904 Lovely - we were lucky to be able to travel to Perth. We also really enjoyed Fremantle.
those are soooooooooooooooo yummy to taste it.
