I love that you’re putting the entire podcast on here. Keep doin your thing dale jr. I’ve been a fan since I could walk and I’m 27 now. My earliest memory of you winning was the Daytona 500 in 2004. I got to touch and see that winning car behind the glass at dei when I was 11 with one of the workers there. Best experience of my life. I still have a lug nut that I got from where they practice pit stops at in the back

Hey guys, FYI, a lot of new cars today do not come with spare tires anymore. They give you a fluid kit essentially to plug it and get you down the road. I buy new cars all the time very rarely unless I buy a truck or a full-size SUV does anyone give you a spare tire anymore.

I just watched a crash highlight from the 2003 food city 500 and on the broadcast the Cingular question was “should nascar add another short track?” An astonishing 93% of people said yes and only 7% said no. Crazy to think 93% would probably say no today and only 7% would say yes with the current short track package. Thought you’d enjoy.

  • @hdi1200

Today, there are many models of new cars that are sold without a spare tire. On some cars, a full size spare or a "temporary spare" is optional; temporary = 50 mph maximum speed, 50 miles maximum distance. Some cars (e.g., my '18 Dodge Challenger Scat Pack) only come with a compressor that can pump sealant into the tire and then inflate the tire.
My understanding is that a limited-slip differential will be damaged if it is driven very far or very fast with mismatched tires (e.g., different outside diameter). Temporary spares have a significantly smaller outside diameter than regular tires.
When the wife and I go on an overnight trip in the Challenger, a full-size spare is secured in the back seat by the seat belts.🙂

Bell and Truex Jr's car didn't have a problem running through the field. Truex might have been able to win it if he pits 10 - 15 laps earlier once they realized he wouldn't make it on fuel and tires instead of staying out and wishing for a caution flag. Once he did pit, he came out 20-something and had no problem marching back to 7th, he just ran out of laps/time to get to the front. Wishing for a caution isn't a good strategy. And Bell worked his way to the front from 20-something too. Some teams/drivers just figure it out better.

I have to disagree with Dale on the car itself. There's an old saying. "You can't polish a turd." In my opinion, this car is exactly that. A turd. An under powered, stiff as a board, crap wagon. I can't get behind the direction NASCAR is going because they never do the right thing to fix their issues. Horsepower is the best band aid for this car FOR SURE. But there would still be a bunch of issues with it regardless. What Dale said about everyone having the same thing however, I do agree with. That's why people love the 80's through mid 90's NASCAR so much. Ford, Buick, Pontiac, Chevy and Oldsmobile. Those weren't just some decals on a universal body, chassis and engine. They were all their own beasts.

Why is it good with THAT car on a simulator but not good with the Cup car? If these are the best drivers in the world shifting shouldn't distract them.

A lot of cars today come with an inflator system this can be a combination of Fix-A-Flat or a little air compressor to fill the tire. Many manufacturers are still offering a spare tire but do so only as an option and you actually have to pay extra to get a real spare tire. Then there are certain sports cars that just don't have the room for a spare tire and all you can get is an inflator.

Don't know why they insist on running splitters on these cars. Ever since the CoT, that's what's introduced this air racing we see today. Bring back the front valance design the Gen-4's had, even if it's just for short tracks and road courses. That would be an immediate fix to all these problems.
But they'll never do that because then that's essentially Nascar admitting the new car is a failure and all the cars since the CoT have been failures. Safer, sure, but don't race half as well as the Gen-4 did. Same reason they're intentionally limiting this cars horsepower when that would also fix many of its issues in dirty air. It crashes too hard and they're scared it'll cause more injuries and potentially kill somebody if they unrestrict the engines and give it the full 900+ HP it's designed to run at.
