Detroit is roughly 134 square miles. Not every neighborhood in Detroit looks like this. One more thing, certain areas were blighted on purpose to save other neighborhoods. I live in detroit, folks don't believe everything you see on the internet. Plus, suburbanites have been caught dumping in Detroit. One more thing, Detroit homeowners were illegally tax to the tuned of close to a billion dollars and their property illegally foreclosed on.

Many of those run-down neighborhoods in Detroit have e been that bad for the last 50 years. Many of them ( even with some of those homes either being torn down or rehabilitated) will probably stay in the same condition 50 years from now. Most of Detroit's building and renovation boom is happening downtown- from the riverfront, north to New Center.

There are giant swaths of the city that look like this and people will still say "Detroit is coming back". Outside of their downtown and midtown, I don't see any improvements anywhere.
Just because it isn’t great now doesn’t mean it’s not getting better. There are a lot of Neighborhoods that look much better today then it did just 5 years ago. Still far from a great city but it’s better today than it was just a couple years ago. Also Detroit just recorded the lowest homicide rate since the 70s so I think that’s something.
I guess it just depends on the area but being born and raised in Detroit only certain areas look like 3rd world countries especially after the housing market crash. But the areas in this video are the worse of the worst and not the entire city.
It’s so unfair to depict Detroit like this when there are so many beautiful areas. Every urban city has its depressing areas but that doesn’t mean the whole city looks like that.
I was born and lived the first 35 years of my life living in Southeast and Southwest Detroit. I always thought my neighborhood was the worst neighborhood because I never knew just how large the city was. What I've seen in these videos is that there are places far worse in Detroit and as a whole, I would agree that 70-80% of the city is a wasteland that has been abused by "opportunist". There are beautiful clusters but they only make up a very small margin of the city and the few well maintained homes are surrounded by abandoned buildings and lost potential. So I would say that this depiction is spot on and a wake up cry for help and awareness. It's like trying to fight a mouthful of rotten teeth with toothpaste.
Merry Christmas everyone. When I see these abandoned homes, I think of at one time families prepared for Midnight Mass and gathered for Christmas dinner later in the day.
I say as long as there is life there is hope so let's not abandon the only thing we have "hope" and "Faith". Don't look at this and be sad, no. Look at this and pray. Pray for better days because it is a promise that your latter days will be better and much greater than your former days.
I'm from Grand Rapids, Michigan but visit Detroit often for concerts & their world-class Art Institute. The people in Detroit are strong & its coming back. We have the 2nd largest historical district in the country in GR that was almost demolished back in the 70s but was saved house by house, block by block. Thank you Mr. Charlie I used to work in neighborhoods like this in Chicago. Some areas with beautiful interiors with craved mahogany woodwork, multiple custom marble fireplaces with ornate carvings - and then many with all of that “removed” by thieves or thugs.
