  • Freezing fruit is a great way to preserve your harvest and enjoy it all year long! Take a look at this video to learn how to freeze your plums at home!
    Today we are going to teach you the right way to freeze plums. You can use this method to freeze plums with the pit removed and sliced, or you can freeze plums whole. It really is super simple to freeze plums to use later.
    Having multiple plum trees in my yard makes it important to have good ways to preserve my crop so it doesn't go to waste. There are many ways to preserve food and I like to have diverse methods in my preservation repertoire. I have many options of how to use my preserved plums later. When I was a kid, my mom would freeze vast amounts of plums, and us six kids would snack on them all summer as healthy bite-sized "popsicles". Freezing plums is not only an easy way for me to preserve them, it also carries with it a lot of nostalgia.

    I use to make plum jab, but that has a lot of sugar. I'm trying this for the last of our harvest.

      @@WisdomPreserved well I've got about 10kilos of them 😂. I've made jam so far I'm going to freeze some, make some chutney and maybe a few cakes too.

      @@azeluk That sounds lovely. A plum sauce for using on meats might be a good addition to your pantry as well.

      @@azeluk I was wondering if i could cook the plums, with some spices, and then freeze in canning jars (but not canned - just handy to use those jars). then thaw later and eat like w oatmeal. but i wasn't sure if they'd get all mushy and loose their structure. Like if you freeze some berries and then try to eat them, they can get pretty mushy. Granted they are good in smoothies and stuff. Have you made the jam, froze it, and then thawed it and all is well???

    Great information. I have 3 plum trees, but only 2 produce, the other one hasn't mature enough. I haven't tried freezer yet. I'll try freezer next year. Also, I just subscribed. You two have a lot of great video's. 👍▶️❤💕

    Hi .. just wanted to say I did find a use for all my frozen plums. Today, I made a great healthy drink that I can sip on all day. I take 1 banana , 1 or 2 frozen plums, a few tbsp yogurt , flavoured or not , added water to the large size cup from the Nutribullet, blended and yum. ! This gives me potassium , and many vitamins and good for the gut too 😄 You mentioned a german kuchen .. would you have that recipe ? thanks and take care !

      My mother always really liked the old Fannie Farmer Recipes. Here is one of them: You make Quick Coffee Cake batter by creaming 1/4c butter with 1c sugar and 1 beaten egg. Sift together 1 1/2c flour, 2tsp baking powder and 1/4tsp salt. Add to the first set of ingredients. Then, slowly add 1/2c milk. Put batter in a shallow 8x8 pan. Drain cooked or canned plums saving the juice. Arrange plums close together on top of the batter. Sprinkle with 1/2c juice then 1/4c sugar mixed with 1tsp cinnamon. (If you are using fresh or frozen plums you could use a different fruit juice like apple as a substitute.) Bake at 375* Serve with whip cream or eat plain. This is a 1960s recipe. I think it is kind of fun to revive those old ideas. Let me know what you think of the recipe.

      I like adding them to smoothies for a little bit of tartness. They also make good kuchen. It is a sweet cake with plum that comes from Germany.

    Hi. Will the plums be ok to make a pie with after freezing?

    • @WisdomPreserved
      @WisdomPreserved  Год назад +1

      Yes. The freezing causes them to be softer on defrosting but will work with many things like that. I really like it for smoothies or Kuchen.

      They should last about 8 months if kept at a constant temperature.

      You can, but then you have to deal with the pits later.

    • @WisdomPreserved
      @WisdomPreserved  Год назад

      @TiagitoP They tend to become a little mushy when defrosted. You can eat the fruit off the pit if you want. My favorite way to eat them is either frozen or in a smoothie, In either case it is best without the pit. If you have freestone fruit it might be easier.
