    • @harpot678
      @harpot678 2 года назад

      swiss is a format type that is radically different from the typical format we use currently, rather than eliminating players in a tournament style format, each player plays a match in a pool to advance to the next smaller pool of victors/losers, again and again, winning brings you up one pool while losing lowers your pool. The people in the top pool/whatever the tournament organizer decides is called 'top cut', and then is placed in a single elimination bracket seeded by your Swiss ranking. Since Swiss provides you with an ample amount of leniency, the single elimination bracket is justified.

    I love turndownforwalt but he keeps making videos about certain topics that quickly become videos about hbox. This is the second mango video that is about hbox. But it goes to show how much hbox means to the community.
    Tbh7 and evo 2015 are 2 turning points in hbox's character. Evo 2015 hbox had fully embraced being disliked and rolled with it. Then we get to the big house 7 and hbox wins. It's that moment where he turns to the crowd after winning a super major and people are just leaving and not cheering. I think that was the moment hbox thought "this sucks. I don't want to be the heel." I could be wrong though but visually that's what I have always seen.
    To answer Walt's question about why hbox isn't as hype there are a few things but I think it's boils down to puff is not as cool as fox/Falco. Also leffen ruined hboxes reputation. We all bought into this idea that hbox is a bad person lead on by leffen. Only now are people starting to realize that was wrong, leffen is a scum bag, and puff with ledge grab limits can be kinda sick. Don't get me wrong I'm never going to cheer for hbox over mango but I'm starting to be happy seeing hbox is top 8. Also now hbox isn't in every top 8 so it's not the norm anymore
    Another topic I like to rant about when it comes to hbox is sportsmanship. Watch the difference between hbox losing Evo 2015 and almost popping off for armada vs watching Armada lose Evo 2016 to hbox and pout on stage for a long long time. Hbox, at least in public, has the best sportsmanship in the game. Very few occasions do you see him upset on stage after losing. Half the time he is stoked for the winner. Not sure about off stage but that doesn't matter.

      @@rcon3209 Also the stats went into losers runs in majors made outside of top 8 and all time Mango holds half of those runs (4/8) which is another huge factor that plays into it.

    People overhype that Zain - Mang0 set at summit 11 way too much. The only reason why Mang0 was able to clutch it out was that Zain played like absolute dog shit especially in the FD games when he had so many opportunities to close out the game but choked. Not to mention 90% of the melee fanbase glorify Mang0 as if he's the messiah of melee so whenever he wins, it automatically becomes one of the greatest sets ever lmfao.

      Its far from over hyped. Its arguably one of the greatest melee sets in history. I still think the Evo 2016 come back is more legendary but you gotta give props to the crazy plays mang0 had.

      @@dereklewis4321 I'm not saying that Mang0 played bad but that Mang0 win was attributed to Zain playing bad more so than Mang0 playing good. I swear if Zain played like he did at LACS 4, he would've easily demolished Mang0 at Summit 11.

      if you think about it, he kinda is the messiah of melee. Imagine if he didn't win EVO 2013 after the community campaigned and got in. Remember this is the tournament that M2K was told to stop playing boring (or something of the sort). Nintendo tried to pull the plug on Melee being at EVO 2013 before community backlash made them retract their actions. Melee probably would be dead or at least not nearly as lively as it is now if EVO 2013 wasn't hype, and Mang0 did that. The one chance to prove your game is worth a bunch of strangers' time, and he delivered.

      @@jasmithyantro9680 Mango played out of his mind. It's not overhyped, it was peak melee.
      The stakes were so high, and Mango's dashdance was so on point, Zain crumbled. That's what you seem to miss: Zain played poorly because of Mango's relentless offense.
      It's not like the crowd overhypes it as the best set in melee history: all the top players that were there said it was the best set in history. All those people that are way more competent than we will ever be universally agreed.

      @@MrFlejon Zain dealing with mang0's relentless offence is nothing new for him, and he crumbled because he dropped crucial FD punishes. Unless you're saying mang0's relentless offence shook him up so much that he dropped his FD punishes, I'm not sure you could say that statement is true. There could have been so many other aspects inside and outside of play that made Zain crumble, like how it was the first time the Summit studio had a chant reverberating the room they're playing in, the pressure that everyone was placing on Zain to win a 60-40 matchup (Zain once mentioned SFAT being the person he's the most scared to face in tournament), the largest prize pool in Melee history, the mental strain mang0's gameplay had on Zain, etc.
      One last thing, if Zain won the final game, would those people say that it was the best set of all time? Or did the winner heavily contribute to that sentiment?
