Darkplace might be the most genius thing ever created...
It's a shame it never got more episodes but I am glad it didn't because if we got more episodes it would have just deluded the genius of the show.
With a genius like Garth Marenghi at the helm of course it was. Unfortunately it never got the acclaim it deserved in the 80s, the world truly wasn't ready for how ground-breaking it was.

While he'd certainly fit the Doctor's more eccentric side I'm not so sure he'd be so good at portraying the more serious moments. Has he really done any serious roles before?
@@thee2724 Comedians who change career to acting more serious roles have in my experience always been excellent actors. Comedy is the hardest acting skill to succeed in. A mere moment out of beat kills the comic moment. There are too many successful actors who first became comic icons before being renowned character actors for me to list. If you know of any comic who has failed in the transition I'd be grateful if you can share this.
I think this actor has more talent than he isknown for. An unproven assumption, but there must be a reason for him being consistently successful. He is more than a nerdy voice and look. This is just a persona he has created.
@@delilahtuxedo6993 I know a lot of comedians have done great work in more serious roles. I just wasn't sure about Ayoade since I haven't seen him in such a role before. He's certainly a great character actor so it'd be interesting to see what he'd be like.

Too bad this doesn't have any of the Dean Lerner stuff from the Darkplace extras "Darkplace Illuminatum" and "Horrificata Illuminata." There's some real gold there.
They are just as good as the actual episodes I can confirm that. Mayve better and possibly how to do a series 2 or joke cast reunion episode where liz is somehow back.
I always thought Gerth Meringue was underrated as a person.
Naturally only Matt Berry could hijack this best of.
Dark Place is so underrated. So many more picks could have been shown here. It's on another level that requires deep analysis that is often overlooked by low brow comedy seekers.

Hilaruious 15 mins and in general. Ayoade is easily one of my favorite comics and actors. I hold out hope for darkplace season 2 too this day.
