  • The Lynx AES16e is a professional studio-grade PCI Express AES/EBU audio interface that allows you to connect professional A/D and D/A converters, digital mixers and consoles, hard disk recorders, etc. to your computer. While most modern converters have USB or Thunderbolt connectivity, the advantage of using AES/EBU is lower latency, don't have to worry about drivers, more reliable depending on your computer, and the ability to connect converters such as the Pacific Microsonics Model 2, Lavry Gold, etc. that only have AES/EBU. The reason I went with AES/EBU over using USB on my computer is I've had several issues with USB Audio on my specific workstation. From intermittent ticks, pops and dropouts, to my words being jumbled. I also am getting more into professional audio equipment and would very much like AES/EBU connectivity on my workstation for future converter upgrades. The AES16e is the PCI Express version to the legacy AES16. It allows up to 16-channels in and 16-channels out, or 8 stereo AES/EBU connections. It supports dual wire for use with the Pacific Microsonics. It has incredible performance metrics that won't become obsolete for a very long time. Supports all driver types out there, ASIO, Core Audio, WDM, Kernel Streaming, Direct Sound, etc. Even has 5.1 and 7.1 surround support if you wish to use this in a home theater setting. Most notably it's Made in the USA!
In this video will unbox the AES16e, install the driver and test it out under various programs. I will be connecting it to my Topping D90, which uses an AKM AK4118 S/PDIF receiver and the Lynx Hilo. Using the AES16e card for over a week with my equipment, it has been pretty solid, haven't had any hiccups or dropouts or noticed any ticks.
