    The way you pour to avoid splashing and air bubbles (2:52) is genius. I'm about to make my first 4-part mold (top, bottom, and split middle section to deal with undercuts) to make a complex shape in urethane rubber, and your process for doing the 2nd part of your mold is exactly what I needed to know.

    You're legit af coming in clutch with more then I thought I would find out about slip molds in one video ! I make boro items for shops . I'm purchasing a new small kiln of Craigslist and it's being sold with all these forming molds / slip mold blocks .
    My old kiln is good just some type of switch or contact issue , I need a medium size production kiln though right away . I have a dental micro kiln , it's the easy bake oven of kilns lol , it's getting me by also I can just make more quartz items . To make your own molds for ones self never occurred to me , seems incredibly useful .

    Tip* Instead of using soap - use Vaseline, then you don't have to layer your soap 5 times. :} This is actually a great video. I like how you drew pictures to show examples of locking your keys, and showing undercuts. Sometimes trying to explain this without a way to show someone is tough but this is great. I will definitely save and share this to folks who are learning how to do multi-part molds.

    • @Rissni
      @Rissni Год назад +2

      It is super important to make sure you don't get any vaseline on the parts of the mold that will come in contact with your ceramic, because then it wont absorb the moisture evenly and you'll end up with an uneven cast ;( If you want something thicker, so you don¨t have to apply it five times, you could make your own soapmixture by graining and dissolving a hard soap bar in water. If you heat it it will dissolve easier and be easier to get thick. But be aware that a thick soap is more prone to leave markings, which could affect the cast outcome.
