Well, I'm a cello player and I'm learning to play the bass, I want a minimum of quality but I cant expend more than 150€ more ore less, so, what de you recommend me??
One piece of simple advice as a bass player for 26 years: Get strap that is wider and and padded. They better spread out the weight of a bass on your shoulder than a normal guitar strap; basses are typically heavier than guitars because they're bigger and have heavier-duty bridges, tuning machines, pickups... even the strings are heavier... it all adds up. A good strap can make the difference between a distracting pain point in your shoulder and an effortlessly comfortable gig or session. My favorite is the Mono Betty, but each person might have their own preferences.
Thick. Leather. Padded. The leather both makes it more comfortable and helps it stay in place better. Learning bass is hard enough. If an extra $40 will mean that the strap is the last thing you notice after a lengthy practice session, it's completely worth it!
That’s awesome dude. I’m a piano performance major and I play drum set as well, looking to get into bass as well. I have harmonic and theory chops from piano and rhythm chops from both piano and drums... perfect combination for bass.
I’m an 8th grader who plays double bass, but I wanted to look into playing an instrument that isn’t necessarily made for classical music, and I thought bass guitar sounded beautiful. I looked up some solos, and more information about the bass guitar and I’m seriously considering buying the instrument. Thank you for the information dude, really appreciate it.
I guess if you play 🎻 (violin, viola, bass cellos or double bass) getting used to the four strings shouldn't be too tough. After all, any (electric) bass would have (typically) at least four strings. But the best of versatility and not too niche is five string PJ basses. That fifth string covers drop tuning and pretty much many other genres without having to downtune too much. That's how I got my first bass anyways.
Once you buy for first bass, your gonna need an amp. I recommend an SVT with a 8x10 and a Marshall JCM800 full stack, for biamping purposes, obviously. Oh and a pedalboard.
@Doyle Templeton P Bass is the sound of rock and metal. Personally I’m a Jag bass guy simply because I have a small frame and I like having the PJ configuration. Biggest thing you can do is look up what your favorite bass players use and how they get their sounds.
I recommend the fender Squier Affinity p-bass starter pack that comes with an amp, cord, case, and strap. It has everything you need to start for a relatively cheap price, but you should probably set it up once you get it.
It took me awhile to learn about weights of basses. I got my dream bass at 11 lbs & didn’t know it was heavy until someone picked it up & said, “man, this is heavy!” Now I won’t go over 9 lbs- it’s important for standing gigs
Im 66 yrs old and as my music listening has changed/mellowed I've have really been picking up on all the bass guitars sounds. So much so it has made me want to attempt playing a bass guitar. I've never played ANY instrument but thot maybe I could learn by copying the sounds/notes I hear on some of the music I'm listening to (play, rewind, play, rewind). So am I just dreaming or is learning a bass w/o lessons a possibility?

Very good intro for aspiring bassists. My experiences w/ Sweetwater have always been good & Sales Rep Norb Berninger has been great! In addition to guitars, I play an LTD D-4 electronic bass purchased new in Spring '14.
After having played for two years, I think this video is sorely missing two points: (1) neck radius, and (2) neck finish. The neck radius tells you the curvature of the top of the neck. Fenders are typically 9.5" which is more curved than a Ibanez which is typically 12" (I'm talking 4-strings here). I initially gravitated toward a flatter radius (12"), but now I'm thinking of moving back to a more curved neck to make transitions across strings easier (I'm working on Vital Signs by Rush). Beginners won't know what radius to choose, but it's important to recognize that there is a difference. I find myself fairly sensitive to the finish on the back of the neck. Many basses use a gloss (i.e. thick polyurethane) finish. I find this less comfortable for my thumb than a satin (i.e. thin polyurethane) finish. I feel like the satin lets me feel some texture of the wood and makes it easier for me to hold the position I want. It's good to go to a physical store to feel these differences. You may not really know what works better for you, but at least you can regognize that there is a difference and see how it affects your playing.
I have 2 Squier Bronco Bass guitars, and neither of them was my first bass. They're great platforms for modification. One of them was converted to a fretless with Korean hot-rail pickups, very enjoyable to play.
I'm a multi-instrumentalist, bass singer, and I've primarily played guitar for several years, but never have had a bass of my own (aside from a Goodwill First Act bass with a missing G string). Played a friend's Fender Jag for a show, but I'm excited to go shopping for my own finally! Looking for the versatility that can accommodate various styles I perform and write, so probably going down the PJ lane (and might also look into some humbucker basses).
Regardless of the number of strings on the instrument you are buying, what is essential to "sight the neck" Place your eye near the rear strap connector & look toward the nut. The neck needs to be straight. Does the fingerboard curve toward the sky or the ground? It can be corrected & needs top be done before you buy it.
been playing bass a long time..dont think that just because your first bass might be cheap that it isnt something you can use for a lifetime.. I have way too many bass guitars to choose from but I can always count on my pbass copy silvertone that cost next to nothing..over the years I've upgraded parts here and there but it really has been a work horse of an instrument for me..always shop around and try different models..you really cant go wrong with a slightly older model squire pbass or something similar..no mater what genre you are into
I understand, and it was the similar situation for me! I’d recommend you to look around in pawn shops or used bass guitars in guitar center. Hope that helps!
You have to strategize. Start off asking for something you know is well out of the price range. Then ask for the bass and it will seem more realistic and harder to argue with.
Great video, Sweetwater fan here. Love the info mixed with fun humor. What would I add? Hmmm, Jazz Bass =Geddy Lee, Jaco, M Miller, John Paul Jones all in same breath :) For me, P Bass is Pink Floyd and in black, deep punch sounds, along with mentioned Motown, 60's-70's hits, and Punk/Pop/Rock, even RHCP Flea-ish! Modern Active Soapbar/Humbuckers , would have been good to quickly show sound switched non switched so a buyer could identify what that means, but honestly you guys n gals did a wonderful job in a quick overview that made excellent points to consider. PS, also agree with the wider strap mentioned below for heavier Basses. Trying to figure out how to best fit a Victor Wooten mention in here, bcuz he is kinda a little of everything, yet not, lol.
Thanks for this video! I am a beginner/intermediate guitar student and retiree. Because of my early music training in band instruments, I am used to playing one note at a time and not chords and I feel drawn to that. Bass seems to be calling my name, and that variety of basses is almost overwhelming, so this has been helpful. Thank you.
I'm interested in knowing the pros and cons of buying a 4, 5, or 6 string electric bass. Also, do you recommend the standard neck length or the shorter? When I was younger I played a 5 string banjo so not sure if any of that experience maps to "bass land". Thanks for any tips/advice!
This past Friday I purchased my first bass. It's a Cort Action Plus 4 which is incredible for it's price! $200.00 ($215.00 after taxes.) and plays like it cost $600.00. An absolute steal especially for someone diving into the beginner bass market like I did!
I just bought mine from your site, first time purchase. Always wanted to play some type of instrument but have always had a unfounded fear? I guess is the right word to use. Those around me that can play have always talked up Sweetwater and so when I finally got the courage to spend the money I went with you guys. I can’t wait to get my bass and start the journey
I really would like to get into bass but I'm looking for someone that will teach me first and also help me through purchasing my equipment. I'm excited though. I have the whole summer and a bit will just be me doing nothing so I think bass would be fun. However, I can kind of jump around my hobbies a lot and I dont want to get a bunch of stuff then not use it. Like, I have a bunch of rubik's cubes that kinda just sit around and I dont really use them that often.
Really informative and coherent. I always loved the sound of a bass guitar, Huge Marcus Miller and Juno Serita fan... To name a few. I am finally just going for it and trying to learn the basics. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.
I recently got my first bass guitar, my bass is a P bass and it’s a stedman pro P bass guitar. And my mom bought it from Amazon and it has an amplifier and a gig bag etc.
one factor of the short scale bass option not mentioned is their ability to produce deeper timbre, fuller, lower sounding notes, due to the difference in string tension, compared to the long scale counterpart. Good examples of short scale bass sound are Barry Oakley, of the Allman Bros. , Jack Cassady, of theJefferson Airplane, and Phil Lesh, of the Grateful Dead. Paul McCartney, Jack Bruce, of Cream, Tina Weymouth, of the Talking Heads, and the amazing, Tal Wilkenfeld, get the idea ?
I liked this video. I played bass many years ago and now I would like to get back into it and was thinking P bass or J bass. I enjoyed hearing Kevin talk about all of the buying points.
ATTENTION: if you have not played any strings instruments or any instruments at all, I’d recommend a second hand bass and a second hand amp (test it out first oc). You may not stick with it or just simply don’t like it, it’s fine bass is not for everyone but getting one 2nd is not only cheaper but also easier for you to get rid of it if you don’t like it. And if you decided to stick with bass you’re def knows what you want for your 2nd bass, the cheap one could be back up and practice bass. My first bass is a ~1990 aria pro magna 2 series with a gutayone amp both are Japanese 2nd import cost me round ~175usd. Work like a charm, I still haven’t decided what to upgrade next
A short scale bass like that Fender Mustang would work well, but really the biggest thing to focus on is good playing technique, and shifting a lot. I'm naturally blessed with rather large hands, tho. Haha
Im a guitarrist, been one for 10 months but after buying 3 guitars i decided to sell one of them (the old one) so i can buy a bass. Tom Araya inspired me to learn bass too
I am looking to get into playing bass guitar. I am interested in playing blues, r&b and some jazz what bass would you recommend for a beginner with a budget of $300.00?
Hi, GuitarDoco! Thanks for your message, Happy New Year… Bass scale lengths generally vary from 30” to 37” and the instrument choice is about what feels and sounds best to you. If the musician is smaller then a shorter scale may be more comfortable, however there are plenty of players who prefer that sound and feel. Best option is to try a few out and go with what inspires you! Please contact us direct with other questions as you have them! Hey guys I've been playing since Feb 2021 I think I dont remember, but I'm pretty decent at guitar and can play some songs by ear and pick up really easily and I'm self teaching, I'm thinking about another instrument when I get another one, I'm getting the fender jaguar or the ibanez red and black guitar. I feel like I should play the drums too but thinking about a bass, bass is really cool and all but what do you guys think I should play when I ever get a new instrument in the future. Most of you will say "Just stick with the guitar" but I'm the type to do more than one thing, I like to play different things so I dont get bored because I like to have more options.
John Deacon is the reason I want to play so if I eventually get one I’d want it to be something where I could play many of his riffs. Any recommendations?
Hello, kush king! Rickenbackers are really in a class of their own. There’s not really anything exactly like them. Thanks for the interest! Spunde, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1732, Spunde@Sweetwater.com
Is it put you on a feel like "a bit J Bass, a bit P Bass" when you get a PJ Bass? ı mean this guitar try to be a j bass and a p bass in the same time. but does it lose half of charachter both of them in this way? I am not new on music but i will buy first bass guitar. I definetly can hear the difference in them all but i wonder how it works in reality when you play it. does a bass player still need p or j bass specificly when he have pj bass? jp bass is closer to p bass or a tottaly a new character? i hope i can explain what i mean. english is not my main language. thank you for the video.
Would you perhaps know why fender omitted the little ,,fingerblock,,on the pre bass?it was fitted above the pick guard as a thumb rest.on the jazz b it was below it,i guess as a finger rest.
My parents always wanted me to play guitar. They bought me one years ago but I just couldnt dedicate myself to it and only learned a handful of songs and chords. My friends started getting a little more serious into music and we already have another guitar player much better than I am. So naturally they said I should get a bass. Im looking to just thumb along to some casual tunes with my buddies. Any advice for my first purchase?
Regardless of shop or secondhand, like what he said, aim for a second hand bass around the $180-$300 region, since there's a balance between quality and overhead cost per se. And always try the basses before you decide whether to buy them or not. Shop: Set your budget $500-$1K range if you wanna play your personal bass long term, making it value for money. Key thing is to experiments with different volumes and tone controls (and sometimes the pickup selectors) and most of the bass sounds comes primarily from the player. Secondhand: Budget can be $200-$500, but if you happen to run into Ammoon or SX basses (which can cost below $200) it might be a hit and miss 🎯; you might get one that's not poorly constructed and plays decently enough for casual jam. But to be safe, $200 is the lowest you can set (Aria STB JB / PB / PJ)
Hello, I'm thinking about about getting my first bass but I can't decide between the Fender Squier Affinity Precision or the Yamaha TRBX174EW. I always loved Fender's basses. I had guitar lessons in 1999 but I had to give up because I was having trouble at School and Music Theory was super hard for me, back in 2014 I found out that I have a learning disability but I really want to get a bass. I don't know how to play and none of my friends know how to play. What should I do?
Hello, ghostsofsociety! It’s never too late to start learning. I think it would be a good idea to find a local instructor who can teach how you best can learn. If you do better with self guided practice, then the Fender Play app is a great option as well! Give us a shout and we can discuss in more depth! Thanks for the interest! Is there a certain type of body that allows you to hold it between your legs instead of it sitting only on one leg horizontally. I haven’t got the best blood circulation in my hands so I need to hold the instrument more upright
Hello, Wes! Unfortunately there isn't really something like that for electric basses. A smaller bodied bass might be conducive for that type of sitting position, though. Thanks for the interest! Kevin Spunde, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1732, Kevin_Spunde@Sweetwater.com
Hello sweetwater! i want a bass guitar that fits with the bass song that plays with Phil collins cause that's the most songs i going to learn and play for a long time. so i'm curious! 🤩🤙
Hello, Austin! I would always recommend buying an amp, too. Even if it's a small one. It's still good to be able to hear yourself properly, and the bass guitar is not meant to be played by itself not through an amp. Thanks for the interest! Kevin Spunde, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1732, Kevin_Spunde@Sweetwater.com
i plan on doing a scott pilgrim cosplay this halloween i got the wristbands that's step 1 out of 4 of my costume completed and i want something not to identical to scott pilgrims bass but a bright red with the white even though i haven't played a bass before even though i have a friend who plays bass and told me your website do ya think a Torino Red Squier Bronco Bass Guitar is good for costume/cosplay?

I want to buy bass in SWEETWATER but I live in apartment where the Mail is not big enough to fit those packages to be secured when it’s delivered. Does any one know How can I get the delivery guy to deliver it to the door of my apt or office?
Hey man, this is such a great n informative video! I am looking to purchase my 14 yo daughter's first bass guitar. We believe the normal sized ones are too big for her. She is on the petite size and has tiny little doll hands. 😁 She likes music of all genres, but is very much into Avenged Sevenfold, Ghost, Falling in Reverse, Melanie Mtz, and early to mid 2000s popular bands like MCR, AFI, PanicattheDisco...to name a few. She tried a Dean bright green, A Squier, n were too big n heavy. There was an Ibanez Mikro and it was perfect in size and weight. Also saw a mini Squier, but discovered a Jackson Minion online. She says we are now "confuzzled" on what to get. Please guide us 🙏 😅 Thank you!!
Hello, Margie! It seems like you are on the right track. The Jackson Minion, or Squier Bronco, or Ibanez Mikro would all be good options. I would highly recommend going with whatever she thinks looks the coolest. If she likes the way it looks while she’s playing, then she’ll ultimately want to play more and feel proud of it. Thanks for the interest! Spunde, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1732, Spunde@Sweetwater.com
I’m so excited to get my first bass but have been going back and fourth between a P and J bass. Is there one that’s better for beginners? Or is it just sound preference? I really love the sound of the bass on the “An evening with Silk Sonic” album.
Hello, Joe! A P-bass is a great standard with nothing complex. The tone can vary from classic R’n’B to punk rock. My first bass was a P-bass! Thanks for the interest! Spunde, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1732, Spunde@Sweetwater.com
I am a guitar player but im looking at basses for my brother but i dont have a bass amp is that very important i have a 35rt Orange crush eletric guitar amp will that support a bass guitar?
Hi, jasminduncanson2520! Thanks for your question. The decision is really about the music you want to make. If you don’t have any (or limited) playing experience, your learning curve is no more difficult on 5 vs 4 strings or even 6. If the music you like has detuned or extended tuning then 5 or more strings could be more accessible. If you’re working on more classic material, there’s something to be said for 4 strings. There’s also the decision of active vs passive pickups and eq. Again a decision made around the music and artists you’re into. Please contact us direct with other questions as you have them! Robert Williams, Senior Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 2371, robert_williams@sweetwater.com
Hello, Thanasis! If you're talking about scale, or rough sizes of basses, then a 4/4 or whatever would just be a 1:1 normal sized bass. Probably 95% or more of the basses we sell are standard sized, 34" scale length basses. Sometimes stuff is advertised as like 3/4 scale, but it's best to look at the scale length instead of something like a "3/4 scale" sizing approximation. The majority of the short scale basses we sell are around 30" scale length. Thanks for the interest! Kevin Spunde, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1732, Kevin_Spunde@Sweetwater.com
I ended up going with a safe Ibanez SR300(4string J w/ 2 single coil/active pick ups), with more experience I thought I might grab a pricier P Bass later on as my second one.
Hello, yeserneirda3451! Bass guitars actually take their own separate amps. That’s because you need something that can handle the low end of bass and is tuned specific to that. Guitar amps are tuned very differently. Give us a shout and we can discuss in more depth! Thanks for the interest! Hello, cocoa candy! Generally speaking, yes when it comes to tuners you plug into. In my experience playing bass some clip-on tuners do work a little better than others - my favorite is the TC Unitune. Thanks for the interest! That’s a big one lol
I recommend the fender Squier Affinity p-bass starter pack that comes with an amp, cord, case, and strap. It has everything you need to start for a relatively cheap price, but you should probably set it up once you get it.
What if i wanna learn slap bass?
It took me awhile to learn about weights of basses. I got my dream bass at 11 lbs & didn’t know it was heavy until someone picked it up & said, “man, this is heavy!” Now I won’t go over 9 lbs- it’s important for standing gigs
11 lbs doesn't sound too bad.
But then again, I havent play a bass....yet.
I march Baritone sax so I think I’m chilling I also don’t use a harness so all the weight is one my neck
First class introduction to bass. This dude is a really great presenter. Exactly what I needed, thanks!
Glad to see something bass related doesn't seem like there has been much lately.
*me trying to buy a bass and learn it in order to understand Davie504’s language*
EPIC
tbh
Hello slapper.

same thoughts bro
Videos like this are why I always look to Sweetwater, first, for all my music needs. Cheers!
Glad to help!
hoping to finally get a bass in a week or so! been wanting to play bass for a few years!
Lol came her for fishing my bad lol
There are two things I love in this world. Playing bass, and catching bass.
I have a question: do you fish quietly? While looking at the distance? Because most of the time I can’t wash dishes without a podcast on.
Bass or Bass? That is the question.
Go for it uncle
The sky is the limit
Good luck 🤞
Take it from someone near your age and hasn't been playing that long you are your own limitation age has it's advantages more likely to practice can afford quality instrument and gear and upkeep like replacing strings on a regular basis so go for it

Yes, she's a bit heavy (even more so w/wood hardshell case,) so a padded wide strap is a must have!
After having played for two years, I think this video is sorely missing two points: (1) neck radius, and (2) neck finish. The neck radius tells you the curvature of the top of the neck. Yeah I just want a bass I can grow on. And maybe upgrade parts or pass down and get a new one. But I only want one bass.
Wonderfully flowing video. Thank you. I'll use this data for buying my second base
I really wanna learn to play bass, but my mom says it's so expensive lol
I understand, and it was the similar situation for me! I’d recommend you to look around in pawn shops or used bass guitars in guitar center. Hope that helps!
You have to strategize. Start off asking for something you know is well out of the price range. Then ask for the bass and it will seem more realistic and harder to argue with.
Great video, Sweetwater fan here. Love the info mixed with fun humor.
What would I add? Hmmm, Jazz Bass =Geddy Lee, Jaco, M Miller, John Paul Jones all in same breath :)
For me, P Bass is Pink Floyd and in black, deep punch sounds, along with mentioned Motown, 60's-70's hits, and Punk/Pop/Rock, even RHCP Flea-ish!
Thank you.
😎👍
I'm interested in knowing the pros and cons of buying a 4, 5, or 6 string electric bass. Also, do you recommend the standard neck length or the shorter? When I was younger I played a 5 string banjo so not sure if any of that experience maps to "bass land". Thanks for any tips/advice!
My best tip is: look at what type of genres you want to learn to play, and which bass fits that the best.
Oh boy I really love and justice for all, I wonder what bass they use
Jk that’s a good tip
This past Friday I purchased my first bass. It's a Cort Action Plus 4 which is incredible for it's price! $200.00 ($215.00 after taxes.) and plays like it cost $600.00. An absolute steal especially for someone diving into the beginner bass market like I did!
This is one I was looking at. How's it treating you after a year?
I just bought mine from your site, first time purchase. Always wanted to play some type of instrument but have always had a unfounded fear? I guess is the right word to use. Those around me that can play have always talked up Sweetwater and so when I finally got the courage to spend the money I went with you guys. I can’t wait to get my bass and start the journey
🙌🙌
I really would like to get into bass but I'm looking for someone that will teach me first and also help me through purchasing my equipment. I'm excited though. I have the whole summer and a bit will just be me doing nothing so I think bass would be fun.
However, I can kind of jump around my hobbies a lot and I dont want to get a bunch of stuff then not use it. Like, I have a bunch of rubik's cubes that kinda just sit around and I dont really use them that often.
Heads up: P Bass necks can be murder on your wrists/hands if you have smaller hands.
Just got my first bass (a PJ) a couple of weeks ago and i love it
Really informative and coherent.
I have had a love of the bass for ever then I found les claypool and primus then I was just just hooked now I must have one.
Helpful vid!
one factor of the short scale bass option not mentioned is their ability to produce deeper timbre, fuller, lower sounding notes, due to the difference in string tension, compared to the long scale counterpart.
Been playing guitar for 36 years but at age 49 I decided to start playing bass, I don't know why lol
Love your Hip Abduction T! Seen them many times…great band! Good vid BTW! Kids looking for a Bass….
I liked this video. I played bass many years ago and now I would like to get back into it and was thinking P bass or J bass. I enjoyed hearing Kevin talk about all of the buying points.
This was really helpful! Thanks!
WOW that was. huge help. Thank you!
I want to play bass as hobby. Love old R&b and newer r&b and rap. I don't have a clue on where to start. HELP
That G&L looks and sounds killer. Great video. Thank you!
My boy, Kevin!!!
sir, what bass can you recommend to players with small fingers?
A short scale bass like that Fender Mustang would work well, but really the biggest thing to focus on is good playing technique, and shifting a lot. I'm naturally blessed with rather large hands, tho. Haha
@@spundeman thank you sir, I already bought a Philippine brand 32 inch bass😅
Im a guitarrist, been one for 10 months but after buying 3 guitars i decided to sell one of them (the old one) so i can buy a bass. Tom Araya inspired me to learn bass too
In the beginning there was the P Bass, and it was good.
But the P-bass was lonely this was not good
So from the rib of the P-bass and the curves of the strat the J-bass was born and it is good
That was very helpful.
I’m looking to purchase a ESP LTD F-204 4 String Bass. But what I’m looking for first is a 4 String Steinberger Synapse Bass guitar.
Thanks for the video.
'Before Leo Fender it was all upright'? Ever heard of Paul Tutmarc?
hey Spundie ... well done!
I have a pj mustang and I was planning on exploring out side fender
Geddy Lee not only plays a jazz, but has his own line. Are they available at Sweetwater?
Yes, www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/JBassEGLBlk--fender-geddy-lee-jazz-bass-black
Yeah I see both the MIA and MIM versions on sweetwater. You'll have to look on the used market for MIJ.
Yes. There's a $925 MIM (MIJ until 2012) and and updated USA model for $1549.
Yep, I bought a Geddy Lee Jazz from them.
Yes, you can buy a Geddy Lee "signature" J-Bass through Sweetwater. They're MIM & decent basses.
I am looking to get into playing bass guitar. I am interested in playing blues, r&b and some jazz what bass would you recommend for a beginner with a budget of $300.00?
Ibanez mikro bass if you have small hands and fender rumble 15, will equal about 330 with accessories
nice and clear Thanks!
Informative, thank you
Do all basses have the same fretboard length? Anything to look into length wise, for a beginner?
Hi, GuitarDoco! Thanks for your message, Happy New Year… Bass scale lengths generally vary from 30” to 37” and the instrument choice is about what feels and sounds best to you. If the musician is smaller then a shorter scale may be more comfortable, however there are plenty of players who prefer that sound and feel. Best option is to try a few out and go with what inspires you!

I’m thinking about getting a Harley benton jb 20 is it a good beginning bass and what strings do I buy?
can you do a video on acoustic-electric combo basses? (and guitars?)
I can play the bass guitar but need more lessons which one should I buy the 4,5 or 6 strings
Saving up for a bass, which, of course, is from Sweetwater
John Deacon is the reason I want to play so if I eventually get one I’d want it to be something where I could play many of his riffs. Any recommendations?
Hello, sorry if this sounds stupid but what do you connect the bass to?
If it's a special speaker what are the best cheap ones I can get :)
You will need an amp that's specifically for a bass, I got a squier jaguar that came with an amp as a combo
Are there any other bass that are similar in sound and feel to a Rickenbacker? Or are they just a beast of their own?
Hello, kush king! Rickenbackers are really in a class of their own. There’s not really anything exactly like them.

I love sweetwater
Shop:
Set your budget $500-$1K range if you wanna play your personal bass long term, making it value for money. Key thing is to experiments with different volumes and tone controls (and sometimes the pickup selectors) and most of the bass sounds comes primarily from the player.
Secondhand:
Budget can be $200-$500, but if you happen to run into Ammoon or SX basses (which can cost below $200) it might be a hit and miss 🎯; you might get one that's not poorly constructed and plays decently enough for casual jam.

@@sweetwater Thank you for your Feedback, I will try to get one soon.
is the Ibanez TMB100 Bass Guitar a good one for my first bass
from what i know yes , ibanez makes extremely good starter gear
Is there a certain type of body that allows you to hold it between your legs instead of it sitting only on one leg horizontally. I haven’t got the best blood circulation in my hands so I need to hold the instrument more upright
Hello, Wes! Unfortunately there isn't really something like that for electric basses. A smaller bodied bass might be conducive for that type of sitting position, though.

Hello sweetwater! i want a bass guitar that fits with the bass song that plays with Phil collins cause that's the most songs i going to learn and play for a long time. so i'm curious! 🤩🤙
search for phil collins' equipment list "rig rundown" to find what he uses.
For someone starting out, is an amp needed or can it be played without one?
Hello, Austin! I would always recommend buying an amp, too. Even if it's a small one. It's still good to be able to hear yourself properly, and the bass guitar is not meant to be played by itself not through an amp.

1997 called - they want their “ask jeeves” back…lol
I’m so excited to get my first bass but have been going back and fourth between a P and J bass. Is there one that’s better for beginners? Or is it just sound preference? I really love the sound of the bass on the “An evening with Silk Sonic” album.
Hello, Joe! A P-bass is a great standard with nothing complex. The tone can vary from classic R’n’B to punk rock. My first bass was a P-bass!

I am a guitar player but im looking at basses for my brother but i dont have a bass amp is that very important i have a 35rt Orange crush eletric guitar amp will that support a bass guitar?
Which is better to start on a 4 string or a 5 string?
Hi, jasminduncanson2520! Thanks for your question. The decision is really about the music you want to make. If you don’t have any (or limited) playing experience, your learning curve is no more difficult on 5 vs 4 strings or even 6. If the music you like has detuned or extended tuning then 5 or more strings could be more accessible. If you’re working on more classic material, there’s something to be said for 4 strings. There’s also the decision of active vs passive pickups and eq. Again a decision made around the music and artists you’re into.

Late to the party but whats the difference between 3/4 and 4/4 bass is 4/4 too big?
Hello, Thanasis! If you're talking about scale, or rough sizes of basses, then a 4/4 or whatever would just be a 1:1 normal sized bass. Probably 95% or more of the basses we sell are standard sized, 34" scale length basses. Sometimes stuff is advertised as like 3/4 scale, but it's best to look at the scale length instead of something like a "3/4 scale" sizing approximation. The majority of the short scale basses we sell are around 30" scale length.

Hi #1 client here!!!
I would like to buy a NORTON FOUR STRING BASS GUITAR, CAN YOU HELP ME PLEASE, THANK YOU
You should add, pics or fingers etc...
Imagining modern metalcore on fender jazz basses hahah
I ended up going with a safe Ibanez SR300(4string J w/ 2 single coil/active pick ups), with more experience I thought I might grab a pricier P Bass later on as my second one.
Do they take the same amps as guitars? 🎸
Hello, yeserneirda3451! Bass guitars actually take their own separate amps. That’s because you need something that can handle the low end of bass and is tuned specific to that. Guitar amps are tuned very differently.

can i use the same tuner for bass and guitar????
