That singer sounds more like Fagen than Fagen, i have just played it 19 times on a loop, its really difficult to sound as good as the original artist, but he gets it exactly right, if i did,nt know, i would swear that it was him.
Hey Chris Younce, sir! I would know something of being a Dan fan freak, if I may say so myself! I'm from the Philippines, and I absolutely do not know anyone here who knows Steely Dan, what the eff is that about?!!
Finally, a Dan cover by musicians who understand that nothing else matters if you don't get the groove nailed down. Spectacular work, and kudos to every one of you!
This ain't no cover, it's a damn hologram... the love for the original just shines through, the playing is in the pocket from beat one, I stand back in awe of your musicianship and class.
Very nice to have the camera close in to the backup vocalist. Such nice phrasing deserves to be showcased. If this were a stage performance I know everyone would be having a blast too, but in the audience you can't pick up all of that nuanced expression as you can this video. Bravo! It's a new performance form.
As a thirty five year full time musician and lifelong Dan fan I can only say that I wouldn't have believed that possible. I had to listen twice. And I bought it at full price twice. If this were the standard on the new frontier, what a beautiful world this would be.
A note for note cover of the Dan is not something I ever expected to see on the internet. Thank you all for this sublime Christmas in June. My wife doesn't understand why I'm so impressed. Really tight, guys. When the recording ends, my brain unconsciously expects to hear the opening drum notes of The Nightfly. That's how you know you got this right.
Everyone is rock solid, but special hats off to that guitarist. Larry soulfully wandering around nonstop from start to finish and this guy nailed every bit! Truly remarkable!!
Not enough words can be said about this group. They have done Donald and the rest of us a beautiful solid. They sound better than the Nightflyers!😍😍😍😍😍😍🤩🤩🤩
My dad got this album when I was 13. I've not stopped listening to it since. Every time I listen to it, it is like a first listen. Beautiful cover, absolutely nailed the feel of the original, with that hazy hum that surrounds the song.
Everything sounds great to me. But I particularly notice the vocals. Mark is a really good singer and hits all the notes with the right phrasing and without any apparent stress on the high notes. Kim is also wonderful and did a great job producing those Fagen trademark, thickly layered, jazzy vocal harmonies.
@@lisaharter1418 agree….Fagen’s voice is laced with cynicism and wariness that notes and being on pitch just doesn’t convey. The rest is excellent though.
Being quite the audiophile enthusiast years ago, "The Nightfly" was my go to standard when evaluating new equipment. It is, in every sense a Sonic tour de force and just blew me away when it was released. This is an absolute incredible cover. I understand Donald Fagan was an absolute perfectionist in the Studio and would spare nothing in post production to get every detail in place. That you guys nailed this while all isolated and then bring it all together speaks volumes of your craftsmanship. Thank you for sharing.
Nightfly is also my go to standard cd for testing my highend audiogear! This recording is still outstanding and is free of todays "dynamic&loudness-war".
That snare is indiscernible from The Nightfly recording. What a job of not only playing, but tuning and capturing the sound. Bravo to Max, Luc and the sound engineer.
Simply amazing! Greetings from Germany! And about the comment section: it feels good to know that there are still a lot of people out there who love great music.
It’s not too often that a cover is as good or even better than the original... What an amazing group of artists, and an amazing rendition of a classic. That it was accomplished remotely just further underscores the level of talent here. Absolutely awesome!
Yeah right! Umm, yeah, but maybe only 17,000 times or so. I grew up in the 80’s with a cool dad who exposed me to great music (thanks Dad!) of all genres. Cool dad or not, you couldn’t make it through the 80’ s without hearing this classic tune. I’m not sure who hasn’t heard this tune really, I’m actually not even sure what the hell you’re talking about. Just an FYI, this cover has just been picked up by at least one media outlet that did a story on this exact video - calling the cover ‘spot on’ - so I’m not alone in my assessment of this as top shelf.
Okay. Considering I know every Christmas change, key, arrangements of any Dan or solo recording by both Donald and Walter, I can honestly say that’s the absolute best cover I’ve heard in my lifetime! Congrats guys! Playing, phrasing, vocals, it put me in front of my new 1200 buck turntable with a 500 buck new cartridge that made me long for 82-83 all over again. Love you guys man.
