The phrasing is misleading. Mauritius has a deal with India to obtain national security advising, like from a contractor. India chooses who to send for the job, much like a contractor company chooses the most suited technician to dispatch to the client.
India is the most trustful partner. But many countries are not like that. History shows.

That is an interesting arrangement. It speaks volumes on the links on Mauritius and India. I guess if it benefits both countries why not? as long as both parties continue to agree to it and make it work.

Ms Palki, since you mentioned concern over security around the south indian ocean, why is it that you skipped the issue of Mauritian islands of Agalega? Indian media have so many times made mention of an Indian Military base there, while the Mauritian goverment has been trying to deny same. It would be in the interest of people from both countries if you could shed light on this issue for which ever good or bad reason for such an endeavour by India.

Athough we have blood, cultural, economic and defence ties with Bharat, Mauritius has an independent foreign policy. As a multicultural country most of our ancestors came from Africa, asia and Europe..with whom we have good relation. So all of them are welcomed to our island..

I guess its because our families have been living for generations in Mauritius so there s this slight disconnect to India in some ways. The thing is most people kept their Hindu Culture while the Indian Culture is now mixed with Mauritian culture.

It's already a fact that India and Mauritius have a time tested agreement, bond and relationship, as mentioned in this report. The media in Mauritius has known this since a long time. Still, it is the government that decides, and many different governments all had strong relationships with Bharat due to our cultural heritage. Of course China will try anything but unlike other debt trapped countries, Mauritius has a robust and strong economy. Also, only Bharat invited us for the G20, nobody else did. We are honoured and for that will always have our support.
