  • Mauritius Has an Indian Security Advisor. Here's Why | Vantage with Palki Sharma
    Mauritius has a long-standing tradition of appointing an Indian to the post of national security advisor. The reason for this tradition dates back to the 1980s, when India averted an alleged coup against the island's then-prime minister. Palki Sharma tells you the story of this strange arrangement.

Indian media have so many times made mention of an Indian Military base there, while the Mauritian goverment has been trying to deny same. It would be in the interest of people from both countries if you could shed light on this issue for which ever good or bad reason for such an endeavour by India.

    The origin of this bilateral goes to the day when young Gandhi visited Mauritius. It is young Gandhi who when visiting Mauritius in october 29 urged Indians to look to India as their Motherland and Referent during a speech made at the Taher Bagh PortLouis, the capital. Through the evolutionary history, subsequent Hindu leaders since have followed that tradition.

    Indian media should learn...these things better not to publish and trumpet...given the China factor these issues could easily manipulate in Mauritius media's and could turn against to us...

    • @rakeshs6239
      @rakeshs6239 10 месяцев назад +2

      It's already a fact that India and Mauritius have a time tested agreement, bond and relationship, as mentioned in this report. The media in Mauritius has known this since a long time. Still, it is the government that decides, and many different governments all had strong relationships with Bharat due to our cultural heritage. Of course China will try anything but unlike other debt trapped countries, Mauritius has a robust and strong economy. Also, only Bharat invited us for the G20, nobody else did. We are honoured and for that will always have our support.

    • @vikramsoondur6891
      @vikramsoondur6891 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@rakeshs6239 I have quite a different view on the Mauritian economy but am not going to argue about that here. I otherwise concur with the overall gist of your post and will add that apart from the MBC, and perhaps the Mauritius Times, nearly all media outlets on the island are both anti-Hindu and anti-Bharat. They don't necessarily voice this out all the time but every now and then, they sure do, while there is a noticeable tendency to keep quiet when Bharat basks in glory (Chandrayaan-3 and the 2023 G20 Summit anyone?).
      Yes, for the first time in the history of Mauritius, it was amongst the eight invitees picked by the Modi Government (the ninth, Spain, is always invited though not having full membership) to attend and participate in the event. That was evidently terrific for Mauritius, and it bears testimony to our extraordinarily special bond with Mother Bharat. I think that the comment you're replying to was calling for greater circumspection insofar as divulging security-related data is concerned. That is not an unreasonable request, come to think of it, the more so considering how secretive the Chinese, for example, tend to be about such matters.

      There is no need to blow the trumpet on sensitive issues relating to Mtian island Agalega. Absolute transparency is neither necessary nor wise. It is true that mainstream press in Mauritius is anti-India. Most Mauritians value their good relations with Bharat
      Mauritius is their native country for which they are die-hard patriots. Bharatiya lands, the history and civilisation form the basis of their intellectual and spiritual make-up
