This Is The Time! Antiques & Vintage Flea Market Shopping

- Where to go look for antiques and vintage on a Sunday drive in Missouri? The answer is in Kansas!-because Craigslist says the semi-annual flea market in White Cloud, Kansas is today!
This was unexpected, but White Cloud is a fun market with lots of antiques and vintage, so we'll take the detour out to this tribal reservation town on the Missouri River. Empty buildings, empty fields and empty streets have filled with $1 and $5 tables, farm junk, estate remainders and antique & vintage of all kinds come here from as far as Oklahoma, and as close a s the barn down the road!
We're pretty happy with the finds here! A useful 1960s store display rack is only $35, an art deco flashlight just $10 and a Rainbow Glass strawberry a bargain at $12. We delight in finding a 1962 world's fair Space Needle lighter that will sell for much more when we get it back to Seattle, and enjoy everything from half-off antique furniture to trays of costume jewelry! A line of Oz-like heads are a mystery that appears before us for the first time at this flea market...
We're so glad to have you come with us to this out of the way place, to find cool antiques and vintage things that need to go back to civilization!

Thanks for taking me along. God bless, George.
My pleasure
Great video George! Thanks for sharing!
My pleasure!
George, as always, a pleasure to watch.
I never know where you'll be next. You're my Rolling Stone and you never gather moss.
I love you George. I learn so much from you.
Oh, thank you so much! I have fun turning up anywhere
Hi from Australia - love your channel, flea market visits you do are my favourite.i have learned so much as your knowledge is rubbing off on me....THANK YOU!!!!
I'm so glad, that's the idea! I want very much to come shop in Oz and see what's different down there (and find a piece of Wembley Pottery)
George, you are so knowledgable - it is such a pleasure to watch your videos and learn from you! Thank you!
The Official Greeter🐾, of White Cloud,
locks eyes on your friendly self, at 26:09 and continues strutting towards you: ☺️
It's my favorite part of this video,
with you acknowledging The Official Greeter🐾, and your gentle pats. 💞
You're obviously a wonderful human,
and I'm so happy I found your educational channel about antiques. 👍
Thanks for that! I’m humbled
I took my 8 and 10 yr old grandsons to the Goodwill today and gave them a black light to check all the glass. They had a blast and had a better interest in glass
My kids loved goodwill when they were little. I would teach them what to look for and they always got a toy going home
I love this. A treasure hunt for them! ❤
Whew Christmas
Yum rainbow trout
Oops by George
Your videos are always fun! I know what you mean about being ready to shop but being ignored by the sellers. Weird, right?
So true!
Yes George, you are so right about antique centers complaining about no one coming in and/or buying - we were on vacation and went to a very large antique mall in southern NJ - Galloway- They had so many great items- but the prices were much higher than ebay prices. No one said hello or came around - there was a 50% booth - even at 50% off, much higher than ebay. This huge place was in the middle of nowhere-I could not belive the prices. Thanks again for all your knowledge - always fun to watch and learn.
Some of the old school malls just aren't getting that there are alternatives for shoppers now, and you can tell by faded tags and dust which are doing well and which are not.
Thanks George ❤
George, I absolutely loved your comment about customer service!!!
Sounded like the customer service at Walmart and Kmart, to name a few, where employees could care less.
At least you can find someone in a Walmart. I never could find any help in KMart.
Thank you, George 💐
Love the deco night light.
Cool places ❤
All that MCM! Those panels in the back drew my eye.
What a great antique mall. The town is very beautiful. Please Stay Safe Happy and Healthy Have A Wonderful Day
By George 36 hours !! You drive a hard bargain ! I'll wait 36 hours n 36 more
I grew up in St Joseph MO, lots of history and great architecture in that area
Sure is!
Thanks so much George....I loved that basement place,,,i think we played with some of mom's plastic toy furniture...
Looks like a great place to live. Quiet, safe, friendly and I am sure a few churches!
Great video, enjoyed it. I appreciate your talk about that shop, ...and the last stop was nicer. Thank you so much for all you do.
Our pleasure!
I sell those violin bottles here in Nashville pretty regularly, for obvious reasons. 😊 I've never seen one with the metal hanger.
I would love to travel and see all the amazing items 🥰🥰🥰
You will!
You were literally 80 miles west of my when you were in White Cloud! Sorry I missed you. Love your videos and the way you take the time to educate us. Thanks!
How fun 🥰
Hey George 👋 nice way to stretch your legs in the long journey! I have to say the color sorted jewelry displays were really impressive. It makes the colors pop more.
My Mom had an old blue salt crock that sat on the sideboard. It never had the cover, but over its life someone had made a perfect fitting wooden cover for it. I saw as you were moving along the same one with the lid. 😊😊 sadly when the brothers downsized Mom they tossed anything they deemed non essential. She complained for the next ten years about the chachkis that they tossed. Now that I am older and have an appreciation for things i understand her despair. Sorry 😞 Mom. I wish i had saved them too.
I always liked the wood replacements, you can't always find the original ceramic lids! We lost a lot of good things when my older family members dealt with estates before I was of age and knew how, it's just hard for family to always know what is worth keeping!
All that jewelry in trays by color looked great.
The blue pheasants are gorgeous ❤
Great color
Love the koala.
Wild George, that was absolutely a fantastic video that was so fun. It's like I'm there with you. I love these videos keep Em up, be safe.😊😊❤❤😊😊❤
Thank you! That's the idea
Always fun to watch your shows. I learn so much and see gorgeous glass etc. Thanks George 😊
Enjoyed that very much George 😊
Hi George, it was great seeing you at White Cloud! On Sunday many of the outside vendors had packed up and left. It had been a bit of a rainy show, but we all did really well.
We've been coming since the mid 80s. We used to setup in and around the metal building next door but it has foundation issues. My family actually bought that building in 86. Myself and another vendor in the basement grew up coming to this show and still love it. So much history there! Now my family and friends setup twice a year in the basement of the old general store/opera house. A local doctor is actually the one restoring the town. She has been buying up and restoring the properties, she is amazing! Unfortunately my family's old building is not going to be able to be saved 😢. It was the bar/brothel back in its heyday before the railroad fell into the Missouri River. Thanks for all you do, I enjoy your videos!😊
I'm so glad to hear it went well! I'm also excited to meet someone who's been doing this longer than I have. I really enjoyed the setup in the opera house/general store basement. Great that there's someone with some money and interest to fix up what clearly was a cute and once important town
Great time George, I love following you around these markets. They had some very nice stuff but the prices were pretty stiff. Have a wonderful day and safe travels
I think you do a really good job of having items at all different price points.
Thanks, I try to appeal to a lot of different collectors and budgets
I wish you would do a haul George . I am so nosey and love to see what you got..❤🇬🇧
I am due to do one on The Antique Nomad Live!
Hello, I think the wizard of character were swing set toppers. I remember seeing them in 1990 in northern California public park. Thanks for the videos
Craigslist is way underated in my opinion.
I agree. Less and less people are using CL it seems. I remember a few years ago when the antiques section, for example, might have had thousands of listings...now, barely breaking 100 listings. Why??? It's a FREE platform for listing and buying things so I don't really get what the avoidance is all about. I suppose it's that you have to conduct your business in person...so security-safety-trust issues with the public? But wouldn't running a garage sale be theoretically more risky and worse...I mean, you put up signs all over town for literally anyone in passing to go to your house and mull around in your garage and yard. Apparently people using CL haven't figured out how not to get scammed or correctly transact with the public?? I also think it's utterly stupid that one of it's 'dings' by former users is that its apparently not user friendly or doesn't have an attractive interface...the user experience isn't enjoyable. I don't think it was ever meant to be more trendy than practical and if you can't navigate CL as it is...I think your standards are unnecessarily high. It's an online classified...does it's job without having to be fancy...just use it while you still have it for crying out loud.
agreed but don't tell anyone lol
The blue pheasants are gorgeous . I’ve never seen them before . Who were they by again ?
Lots of great stuff at that show .
Found a cut to clear vase. with cobalt blue , and a cut to clear ashtray in cranberry today at Value Village . Yes, the staff undervalued them lol . I seem to be on a streak 😊. And thank you for all your teachings . I so appreciate it . Hope you have a wonderful show.
Oh that's fun! Hope your streak continues. Please timestamp the pheasants and I'll try to tel lyou.
Always love your videos ❤
I am so bummed I couldn’t make it to the Rose City Vintage Market this year! I was going to come on Sunday, but I ended up having my grandson for the weekend & he is not a good vintage shopping partner, lol. I was really looking forward to seeing you there, but I guess I will have to wait until next year. I hope you had a successful weekend with a good turnout! 😊
I hope you'll be able to come see me there at the October show!
Good evening, George. I'd like to have that large trap. I used to have several old traps, but they went missing over time. The flashlight/nightlight is cool. I like that. The prices on those tins were...eye-opening 😳 The Weller pieces were really nice. Weller is probably my favourite of the pottery makers. There were a few things in those places that caught my eye. They would be fun to browse them, for sure. Thanks for the take-along!
Hi there! I'm so far behind on comments, I'm sorry! I like the big traps for the look, would hate to find the critter big enough to be in one. Weller is really underrated in my opinion. I'm glad you got to see this one!
@@TheAntiqueNomad No worries about the comments! With as many irons in the fire as you have going, it has to be difficult to even try to get it all done. I really like the designs and colours Weller used.
Sorry I missed the chat!
That last store or shop was a bit strange
Congrats on the space needle buy! Love my brass
Thank you!!
George, if you ever run across a book titled "Sir Kevin of Devon " ,,,, I would be most interested in acquiring it. Its on my bucket list with the Wallace Nitting we got from you in Spokane !!!!Thanks 4 all you do!!!!
I'll keep an eye out! Looking forward to being back at the Spokane show this October
I would have taken the cobalt blue moderntone S&P shakers! I collect cobalt blue and the metal tops appeared to be in good condition... Also, enjoying the background coversations.
They were, I liked that set too
You walked past the cardboard fireplace. Worth $100+
I see it
You're right! It was priced too close to that though
@@TheAntiqueNomad I figured.
Nice meeting you in Portland Antique fair
I was so bummed I missed it! I ended up having my grandson for the weekend & he is not a good shopping partner, unless of course, we are shopping for video games. 😊
@Pureimagination200 I'm so glad to have met you there too! Will be back in October
Good to see ya doing good
Thanks!
Some of those prices were wild!! But I always enjoy watching your videos because you know EVERYTHING!! And I learn so much so I can make better decisions when I'm making my videos! Thank you for your information and your great videos! Always a joy!
Glad to help!
I did not go to White Cloud/Sparks Fleamarket this round. I went in the spring and the prices were too high so I opted to stay home this time. Did you find that the prices were high?
Sparks is the best one in the area.
Agreed but I had only time for one, and it was good too. Sparks is bigger though
I would have spoken up and introduced myself
I'm sorry we didn't get to meet!
We used box fans

Hi
Interesting how people would travel so far to do a show in a ghost town. Do they get retail customers who are looking for their type of wares?
They do! Kansas City metro is not that far and people there know about it. There's a similar show in Packwood, Washington every Memorial and Labor Day weekend where people travel 3 hours from the major NW cities to a tiny mountain town to shop
No shortage of dumb conversations in public in America.
Complaining is the national pastime. One of the reasons for less Antique store traffic is the influx of Pier One merchandise and the painted furniture fad. There's no attempt to compete with internet selling with better quality things.
Well I agree that a lot of places are just letting in anything to fill space, and true collectors just aren't going to want that stuff.
I want that space meddle lighter? Did you sell it already?
I'm sorry, it went immediately!
@@TheAntiqueNomad not surprised. That was a great find!
Too bad George passed on the alexandrite glass, if he did. He didn't get there early enough to hit the mistakes in the "costume" jewelry. Somebody else probably nailed those when the doors opened
I'm sure they did! I just got a nice alexandrite piece elsewhere though
Who the fuck collects sprinklers?
Oh I sell them to gardeners, people who like to decorate their garden walls, and a few wonks who like old school technology
Great video
