Another rare glimpse of Kazmaier's insane pressing power. This is from November 4, 1979 in Dayton, Ohio at the IPF Men's World Powerlifting Championships.
Possibly but unlikely. Every bench press record holder (for the ATWR) has been a bench press specialist, and the majority of bench records in every weight class are specialists.
@@littlethuggie Unlikely? Absolutely not. Kaz even said he was pressing 700 during gym workouts before his pec tear. He would have been without question the first man to bench press 700 pounds raw in competition.
perfect bench technique, thats called tightening yourself like a spring and then using the lats, upper back, triceps and pecs to recoil the bar back up, pure explosiveness
Shame we never got to see how far Kaz could have got his bench to. The injury he got in WSM took him from a 661 bench, to not being able to lock out 500 lbs in the 83 worlds. I can't imagine the emotional letdown of losing 150 lbs on your bench when you are still in your prime. And ironic, it was the bar bending event that he suffered the injury in.
For sure! I've only seen pictures, but footage of such a historic lift has to be in someone's vault somewhere. I'm currently trying to buy DVD of the 1985 Hawaii Record Breakers meet from Ernie Frantz.
I've looked for that for a long time. There doesnt seem to be any internet footage of it. Someone has to have it on tape in their home somewhere. Would love to see video of that.
@@LexingtonPlummer 85 that was three years before my first power meet I was in high school then. Great days and awesome growing up around solid men in the gym Vietnam veterans in their 30s who were pushing serious iron! One day one of them said you need to take care of your mom and do what she needs you to do and if I find out you’re not I’m going to kick your ass and I believed him 😂
Imagine what he could do today if he was in his prime. I still think he is one of the greatest of all time
Look at his form POWERSH1TTERS! He is not looking like a fcking circle when he is doing bench pressing!
Someone failed shapes in pre-k.
He would have been the first man to bench 700 pounds raw in competition had he not tore his pec.

@@gskessingerable unlikely.
@@gskessingerable it doesn't matter how many times you like your own comment, it's still unlikely he would have done 700 lol.
Gary is spot on. Unlikely? Its very likely! As a matter of fact had he not tore his pec, most would say it was a foregone conclusion!

that technique is awesome

He did lockout 500. He benched into the mid 500s post-injury.
amazing taper for a guy 317 pounds. looks at the traps and chest
The way he pushes through his chest when flaring the elbow, that's a very advance way to bench
Awesome lex
We need to find his 661 raw somewhwre

Yes Bill doesn't arch his back on the bench-press.. Good job
True legend 💪🏻
Today's record is 738.5.by Kirill it's amazing how far the bench press has gone In 37 years.
Alex Stergiou Kaz hit a shirtless 661 in the early 80s so in 35 years it has only improved by around 75 pounds

75 pounds is a big difference.

And now Maddox has done 770 and chasing 800. Imagine if Kaz put on another 75-100 pounds of body weight.
