The crazy fun of EUGENE!

  • It’s a whole new episode of ring of the hawk season 3 today which happens to land about the same time as The Hawk does in Mexico. Today it’s the really weird run of Eugene who seemingly went into quite a high spot in the WWE out of nowhere. He was immediately with Chris Benoit and Triple H but then it all just died down and he got injured. But how good will this run be? Let’s see!
To view Diva Search 2005, Hernandez 2023 interview, Sid in ECW, Raquel Brikked, Brock Lesnar in New Japan and other exclusive interviews:

The best thing that came out of the Eugene era was that segment where William Regal came to the stage to confront HHH about calling Eugene out to fight him only for Regal to basically rip into HHH and give him a new asshole. Best promo ever from Regal.

the wrestling savant nature of this character is something that could've been done well without all the trappings we got in real life. Maybe he's someone who's spent hours and hours watching tapes of just about every wrestler on the roster and can easily adapt to their opponent's wrestling style on a dime. Basically, something like a wrestling version of the Marvel Comics character Taskmaster.

Yeah apparently the original idea was literally "Festus" before "Festus." He'd be mentally challenged until the point where he'd be in the ring and the starting bell would ring, at which point he'd suddenly turn into a fucking Bret Hart/Mr. Perfect/Chris Benoit/Kurt Angle/etc tier pro wrestler, and then remain in that idiot-savant fugue state of sorts until the match's ending bell rang at which point he'd return to standard-issue Eugene
God, I hate these types of characters. Really shows how much of a scumbag Vince McMahon is. Cuz it'd never be a situation where Eugene would mark out upon seeing a heel wrestler, only for them to eventually start beating him up until a babyface wrestler inevitably came in, made the save, and did a mark-out celebration with Eugene; but rather it'd just always (fucking ALWAYS) be a situation where Eugene would mark out upon seeing a heel wrestler, only for them to eventually start beating him up...and then keep beating him up...and then beat him up even more until he'd get to crying and either run away or be ko'd and left him.
That bullpucky isn't fun. It's just mean. Really shows how misanthropic Vinny Dickmahon is. 😒

I think the character would have worked out if he was treated as a Forest Gump or Rain Man character of how he’s dumb in some areas, but scary good at wrestling. I also think they shouldn’t of overplayed the fact that he was stupid because it got pretty mean quickly. Especially when he’d just get the shit kicked out of him!

The idea was supposed to be closer to what you suggested. Eugene was meant to have Savant Syndrome; it’s an unrecognized label now, but it was used to describe folks on the autism spectrum who were incredibly talented in a particular area. The building blocks were there but the execution wasn’t quite altogether.

He basically laid into Triple H for taking advantage of a "disadvantaged boy"(as Regal called him)and threatened to beat him into a bloody mess for Eugene.

My autistic nephew absolutely loves him and he was born in 2005 and discovered him long after he left WWE. Around 2012. And he likes going back on the WWE Network to watch old Monday Night Raws from 2004 until 2009.
He is so believable and amazing with that gimmick. I honestly think The Eugene character inspired my nephew and made him happy watching him.
Eugene is truly loved in iconic.
He would be so over now in WWE...he would get a huge pop.
I don't understand why you are scoring this, he is iconic and loved by Causel fans, you can't expect him to be a indy darling, Japanese spot fest monkey, doing 9 hundred flips and going for hours just to get a ridiculous 5 star match....this was pure Cinema and entertainment.
Nobody can do what Nicholas David Dinsmore did, he could've been an actor, he was so extraordinary at his gimmick and so believable that he inspired people with disabilities.
Look at the crowds, they were so excited and Happy, and they would pull for him and cheer for him, he got actual pops. Plus more viewers watched him back then, than pro wrestling today...4 million to 5 million viewers watched Monday Night Raw back then...more then any promotion today.
He is remembered by Casuel fans and Lapsed fans, he became a star in just 2 years and kids absolutely loved him.
Its funny because we loved him, and everyone in the comment sections, loved him and remembers his character fondly, he was an incredible Nostalgic character for us all, much like George the Animal Steel and the Oddities...he was a Bright spot in our memories and he was over... nobody complained back then they cheered for him.
But I watch some of these RUclips from other channels, Along with you creating just a negative look back at it, maybe because you are such a MARKS, AND everything about pro wrestling has to be serious but its not, it also supposed to be fun and entertaining... it's like you guys make these videos to dimish the impact of Eugene's character, because you guys expect eveyone to be 5 star ridiculous wrestlers and they never get over in America because we love characters, long term telling, and Cinema.
I just think you guys make it seem like everything he did was bad and the matches were bad....when they aren't, they were extremely entertaining and amazing to watch Eugene fight back at the end.
This false narrative you are trying to create, as if The Eugene character was bad and in bad taste and try to say all he did was had matches because he wasn't and didn't.
But little do you RUclipsrs know is that Eugene is remembered fondly and we would love him to comeback, he would get a bigger pop then Kenny Omega that's for sure...he is now generational because the Young Gen-Z generation have rediscovered him on the WWE Network and my nephew who is 19 years old and Autistic loves him and always tells me he should comeback.
We are not gonna be in comment section going along with your ridiculous score numbers as if they valid and make say things like " he was boring, that was in bad taste, he bad... because he wasn't, he made a lasting impact.
Those scores you give him were asinine because we joyed all his matches and appearances.

Its kind of weird Eugene (who generally mimics 80s/90s wrestlers) didn't do any Mick Foley stuff in the hardcore match. Though by that point his character was starting to just slide off and just do the same moves over and over rather then basing them on the match. (He does later do the socko thing in a tag match randomly)

Honestly I’m glad Nick created the Eugene character and that his idea got over. Besides the obvious humor, Nick mentions in past interviews about conveying that people with disabilities can overcome the odds. And for the few blind souls who believe the Eugene character should’ve never happened, consider this: how many gay, transgender wrestlers are shoved down our throats today, or even supported into existence? None of us asked for it. On the same token, we didn’t ask for Eugene, but at least he wasn’t shoved down our throats. He just appeared.
Are you telling me Eugene shouldn’t have happened because of his disability portrayal? Isn’t that calling the kettle black.

Yeah, that Eugene vs. Edge match (as well as all the other beat the clock challenges on that RAW) had an extra stipulation where if the other person (in this case Eugene) won they'd steal the person (Edge)'s chamber spot. So they had to continue or else Edge would've lost his spot. Shame I don't remember any other beat the clock challenge having that stip since.
