In this lecture, we will cover Class 7 history NCERT chapter 1. "Tracing Changes through a Thousand Years" (Full Explanation)
We will study about how historians understand and trace history. In this first chapter, we will study how context and terminology are important for historians. Then, we'll have a look at the differences in maps made by Al-Idrisi and Guillame de l'Isle. We will also see how the meaning of the word 'Hindustan' has changed over the years.
After that, we will study how historical sources, and the study of social and political groups help historians in understanding history. We'll have a look at the problems historians face when studying historical sources. Then, We will also see how Rajputs became important, and what are Jatis.
We will study how the study of regions and empires, and development of religions help historians. We'll have a look at how various empires affected regions, the impact of religions on society, and how historians categorise time in 'periods'. Then, we will understand what is contained in medieval history, and how medieval history differs from modern history.
All points in the chapter have been explained in an easy to understand manner. This way, it will be simple to memorise these points for class 7 exams, as well as, various competitive exams, like UPSC, bank PO, cds, ssc gl, etc.
