I feel like this one lesson is a gold mine! Going to explore extensively using it.
Thank you!
Well finally a "I couldn't play this until..." video that was actually super informative and easy to apply, and not click bait or an hour lecture on modes LOL Thanks for this awesome lesson!
Lol, Thanks Jason, Glad I could help! Stay in touch (new vid tomorrow)
Yes yes. Truly agree.
Are lectures on modes REALLY that bad though?
@@dave7922 maybe not but for bebop guitar, I don't think it's that helpful. Stress on the "bebop guitar" thing.
@@dave7922 no I love modes. Modes are very important.
I LOVE you you are replacing counting with what I like to call the "descriptive approach"! It really helps to comprehend what's going on in the scale in real time! 😀🎸🔥🔥🔥
Thanks Joe!! :))) so happy to hear that
I agree!

Thanks James! 😃 glad you're here
Your solo in the begininng was so good🤯! Did you use a drive or a compression pedal for that worm and rich tone?
Thanks Gal, Here is the full solo: ruclips.net/video/j61ICHBHCy8/видео.html
I used : 'Bogner Ecstasy Blue' pedal directly to my scarlett 2i2 sound card into Logic daw and added a 'cla2' waves compression plugin going to a Roland Jazz amp simulator from guitar rig5.
((I'm not sponsored by any of these)
lol:)
Hope that helps :) Stay in touch
That's the magic of humbuckers. Use a jazz amp and you are good to go.

i'm confused.......so at 02:00 that means that you also add a chromatic note between the 2nd and 3rd note?! 🥵
Exactly! 🙋🏻♂️🎸You got it
Thank you so much. I need so much more of this.

one'a'ana two'a'ana...thats what native american people used to sing in their bonefire circles hahaha
:) NICE !
Great lesson- but difficult
to apply.Yardbird Suite-
l:C6 l Bb7 l C6 Bb7 l A7 l Dm7 l G7 l C6 l G 7 :l. The chords change too fast- what to do ?.
A few things that you can do:
1.analyze the harmony to know which scales are used in the song.
2.play the arpeggios of the chords in 8th notes ascending and descending from the root.later add approach notes to get to the next root of the chord on the downbeat.
3.more advanced-through what I mentioned in No.1 play the matching scales/modes over the changes on 1 string at a time across the neck in 8th notes.
And if you need help-get a teacher 😊
You have to start by simplifying the harmony. Bear in mind that bebop originally came out of the swing era, and that the tunes the pioneers of the music played were mostly based on older standards, Donna Lee is based on Indiana, Ornithology is based on How The High Moon, and Yardbird Suite is based on Rosetta.
If you take Yardbird Suite, you'd look to eliminate some of the chords and look at chord movements. For example if you take the first two bars - bar 1 you have C6, that's fine. Bar 2 is actually F minor. Why F minor? Because if you take Bb7 scale (major scale with a flat 7) you have an F minor on the fifth degree. So in those first two bars you you can go up the scale in C first bar, and down in F minor. So you have I maj - iV min chord movement - this is a very common movement in jazz, particularly in older jazz. The trick is to learn how to play lines that go across the chord movements linearly.
The approach taken in this fine and it's got some useful information but misses the key point that in bebop you don't play from chord to chord, you play movements.
Amazing video. Thanks so much!
Hi Aiden, Thanks for being here, Im glad this helped.
hi!! where i can find bebop lines like this in your site and buy them?cheers from athens greece.
Hi :) yes! and so much more - weissguitar.com/online-programs
Nice video.
You sound fantastic.
Your phrasing is smooth, articulate and cerebral.
I’ve been playing for over 40 years. I’d really like to improve my bebop chops and the thinking behind it.
I’ll definitely be back to check out more soon!
Wow, thank you! So happy to hear that. Stay in touch 🙏🏻🙂
I don't understand the intro though.. Ab7 goes to Bbmaj7, goes to C7.. what's the relationship beetween them? That's not 251, nor the substitute either?
Great lesson! Liked and subbed! Greetings from Scotland! Cheers! 🏴🍻

The theory is a bebop scale, but the performance is not a bebop scale, but an approach with chromatic notes written on various notes. should we use the bebop scale?

🤣 Thanks Donald 🙏🏻Yes same guy lol - stay in touch
What if I wanted to do this in eight notes?
You can : )
Chord tones on strong beats-- an important and much-ignored topic. Much enjoyed your technique and sound, too-- don't know many who can get such a clear, fat, solid note using a plain third string, which I presume means these must be light strings by jazz standards.
Bro.. when I was 19, I was lonely, because my friends listened to Pearl Jam, RATM, and Metallica. Yet I was listening to Charlie Parker, Count Basie, and Wes Montgomery. I bought those cassettes in a mall which is now no longer exist. I'm 43 now, and my dream is still to play Jazz with a guitar, just like Barney Kessel
Thats awesome! check out some more videos , and also lots of cool stuff on my website weissguitar.com , stay in touch :)
Great techniques. Two of the keys to this seem to be breaking up full step scale elements and reversing direction. So simple but yet deceptively effective!
