    The charring technique is called shou-sugi ban. It was originally used in japan as a means of preserving wood. It creates a really nice rustic look.

    ..Very Good looking hacksaw !! Unfortunately, i'm not a fan of displaying a good tool on the wall or shelf a wore out one perhaps...

      I thought about addressing this in the voiceover, but kept getting too long winded. I agree that tools are made be used. This tool was meant to spur conversation and imagination. After two seasons, it was time to retire the saw to move the conversation forward. But this item spoke to someone a little more than others and a stranger became a client when he asked how to display it. A new conversation about this tool began and here is the result. This simple mount doesn't diminish it's functionality... couple of screws, a new blade, and off to work. Does it change the saw to display it with a little pride?

      Its great at helping get a coal fire going... crap thats still fire..... I got nothin.
