Hi Caitlin,
Some updates. When Navy families arrive on island the active duty service member will need to attend the mandatory 3 day Area Orientation you can contact FFSC to sign up for Area Orientation for spouses it’s optional. The housing brief is conducted there. All active duty members must do a housing brief before pursuing housing. If they arrive in an off AO week they do the housing brief once a week at the housing office. Currently Direct Assignment is in place. This means that based on the availability of housing at the time of your appointment you may be assigned to base housing and not give the option to live off base. If the family base housing that you qualify for has an Occupancy rate of 90% or below you will be direct assigned to base housing. If it’s higher than that you will be given the option to rent out in town or go on the wait list for military housing. Currently if you qualify for 3 bedrooms there is an abundance of those so you will more than likely be direct assigned. 2 & 4 bedrooms are currently limited but the inventory changes daily. If you pursue off base housing without getting a waiver you may not be eligible for OHA. Hope you find this information helpful. The policy can be found on the Naval Base Guam website. This is as of April 2023.
Thank you so much for adding this information for those that might watch & see. I know this video just went live but it was filmed before that was put in place. I also didn't even think to talk about AOB, a major piece I missed! We've been here over two years now & they started that sadly after we arrived. I would've loved to have that resource when just getting to island!
My family and I are getting stationed in Guam we are leaving mid to end February I believe.
Praying for a smooth & easy PCs for you ❤️❤️❤️
We just got it on our second round of picks. We’ve been spoiled with housing where we are. I don’t know how I’ll fit my office and all my furniture in a small 2 bedroom house! Are there any remodeled units for an E6 w one dependent, no kids?
Thoughts on starlink?
It was just becoming popular when we left the island. So I don't have a ton of input but from what I've heard from others they recommended it!
Hi, thanks for this! curious about electric car-is there any car charger around the area or it’s not a good idea to bring an electric car?? Thank you!!
I don't know a ton about electric cars but from what I've seen it not really prevalent here. I've never really seen any car chargers, but I've also never looked for them.
Thanks for the info! I would love to hear more about the process you guys went through with your spouse going through schooling in between duty stations. My spouse is going to NDAC school in SD and detaching from GA. his schooling is only 3 months long so we are confused on how this process will work.
I'll add it to my video ideas! If you have any specific questions about it in the meantime, feel free to DM me on Instagram. I'm no expert but I can share our experience on the process!
Hi Caitlin, my family is relocating to Guam next month and your videos have been so helpful. Thank you ❤
I have so many questions 😆 I should mention that although my Husband served in the Air Force, we have been out of the Military for about 17 years. Our relocation to Guam isn’t military related, but we do have base access 👌🏼
We will not be living on base, of course, but are there any areas on the island that you would recommend NOT living in? 😅
