Alone. Alone is what this man is. Years after the world ended and the human race perished; this is the only man left standing. How did he survive? What caused the outbreak? We don't know. No one does. This short film gives you an inside look on what the only man left alive does on a day-to-day basis, what he does to survive, kill time, and keep himself sane.

Turns out he wasn't alone after all. He just stopped going to work, didn't pay his utility bills and ransacked people's houses while they were at work. All the while muttering to himself about living in a post-apocalyptic world.

Liked this, and the ending was great. I have one quibble though:
I would have lost the handheld cam. When you're conveying the feeling of a person being alone on the planet, a handheld cam is a constant reminder that someone else is there with him CARRYING the camera. A calm steadicam would have worked better. In my opinion.
filmidioten I tried to make the handheld footage seem as stable as possible as not to give that kind of feel, but I agree. I wish I had my sliders and dolly's at the time to really sell the "Alone" feel.

I thought this is really good. But, there are two problems: If everyone is dead, then who is cutting the grass? 2) How is it that he electricity is still on? It takes people to run a power plant. I know this is nit-picky but just sayin...
The cut grass was a bad overlook on our part, the electricity was is because our local power resource is a dam that is engineered to run multiple years without the need for human interaction.
Oh cool. Great film! Congrats on the awards. I really enjoyed it. I'm sorry to criticize it. I just wanted to give you some useful feedback. I know how hard it is to make a film these days. Best of luck.

souparno majumder Most energy providing plants (in my local area it's a Dam) actually are engineered to run without human interaction for up to around 5 years. Knowing this and not knowing anyone other than my friends and family would watch this, for them it was common knowledge, but for others it unfortunately is not. Sorry for the confusion, hope this helps.

Cool short film! This could be due to budgetary limits but I love the idea of a post-apocalyptic world looking the exact same as before except completely deserted. As if actions don't matter in this world. Despite all the deaths, they don't have any significant impact and humanity continues without them. Very interesting film. I'll be looking out for more of your work in the future.

I don't know why post apocalyptic film makers don't think about how utilities WONT exist. Electricity, running water, appliances it would all eventually stop working cause no one would be running it. I always tell myself they have a generator (which he does in the short) but that random house wasn't. Those lack of attention to detail always kinda brings me out. Still entertaining though I don't wanna shoot down the short, it was still good.

I watched a few short films this evening, and this was the first one I found to be enjoyable with no immersion killing annoyances.
Thank you, someone like me, I hate the constant obsession with visual effects and violence that all film makers want to use. I don't care about violence in films but to many people add action with no story.

This is a good storyline, without the usual senseless zombie themes (and a good reference to Zombies).

This is a very well made shortfilm that captures true loneliness of a human being. I think many can relate to this, even though we never truly are alone in this world, one can still feel like a post-apocalyptic lone survivor.
Never was I bored at any of the 6 minutes and the movies pace was very good.
This movie ended at the perfect time aswell. I love how the monologue cuts out when the lamp turns on in the house. It adds some mystery to the film and it leaves the viewer with some questions and that is what I love. What happened? Who were in that house?

Excellent film. I loved the concept. The ending was a bit abrupt, but overall I liked this short film. The narration really helped me "feel" the scenes. 9/10. Good job.

With his better, more exhausting job, loneliness came, his non-existent humanistic education doesn´t let him recognise what to do with his life or riches... He becomes so lonely, that he beginns thinking, he is the only man alive... Wake up, that is art... And the big house he lives in, is his own new house, the smaller one he visits, is the one he used to live in, before he became that rich...

I wasn't really that into it but when the light came on at the end I got so many goosebumps that was freaky
I liked this short film and it felt like I was there the whole time. I would like to see more of this because It's not the mainstream zombie movie, it's different! I also like that you left the viewer thinking about what these dead creatures possibly could look like.

You know what would malke this much better? If you had more character development. Seriously, this guy is exactly like every other lone survivor in every other post-apocalyptic short out there. After finishing it I was thinking "what if he felt important for being the last person alive? It's almost as if God himself was saying that he mattered for being the last to live." I mean, if I knew that if I died all the knowledge achieved by humanity and all my memories would go with me I'd be feeling like the most important person in the world. And then he discovers that it's not true, that his life is no more important than the other person he met. I'm tripping a bit too far here but with a little work I'm sure this would become a pretty intersting and original concept about human pretentiousness.

He is using the world to survive, but why would having an extra first aid kit, flashlight, batteries, food, water, duct tape, etc. All conveniently placed in one bag not make things easier. :P.
His commentary is pretty robotic, give his character some more Identity and personality. No one thinks or speaks like that, you're presenting him in a way that is very predictable. Give his life some realness, you can still convey all the same ideas he's saying but give it some emotion and personality.
I agree to some extent. I kind of think his robotic voice works well with the whole idea of him doing the same thing over and over again. He's bored with it and I think his voice helps support that.
Veronica Barbosa Agreed. I think the robotic voice symbolizes the boredom of being the only human, having no one to speak for in years. He even said himself that sometimes he goes weeks without talking.
Tnice2nice Actually why we did the almost mono-tone and groggy sounding voice. He's been alone for years, what does he have to be excited or sad about? At this point he'd have moved on past the moping and depression and got on with his life.
Ruffneck101 The tone works, but his description of things is very generic. I would think if it was the end of the world you'd be a very deep thinker, you'd have time to ponder everything that happens.
I see where you're coming from. We decided to do describe things the way we did, because for us personally, after pillaging houses day in and day out for years; doing the same thing over and over, we thought it would get to the point where you would almost be numb to everything around you. I'm sure there will be more emotion where the light will have given him a glimmer of hope.
The apocalypse happened in summer, when Bob was on vacation with his family. He had left a lamp in his living room on a timer to turn on at 7pm every day to deter burglars. Years later, when the last man on Earth walks past Bob's house on a dark winter's night, he's startled when the light suddenly flicks on, but alas - there is no one there.

That was awesome... can't believe I'm just seeing this...
The water and electricity should not work so well. The scariest story in the world. The last person on earth is sitting at home. There's a knock at the door. Nice idea. But not well thought out.
Man god, he just said he had a well and a generator.... And he was walking home and saw the light turn on, no knock on the door?
What I was saying is that the electric stove is too nice and neat for a post apo movie. FYI Gas goes stale in a year. Several years ALL gas is bad. Generators would be useless. A camping stove and a washing bowl would have made things more believable. The props needed more attention. If you are going to make a movie. Put some work into it. As for the knock on the door. That was just a very short horror story. Not hating. Just helping. Could have been cool with some props and a little research. The light turning on was a cool way to end.
When one thinks Apocalypse. One does not think of cooking on a glass top stove in a nice apartment WITH running water no less. I was not trashing the mans work. Just making a point. This vid could have been better with some work. Neat story. Like it. The props should have matched the story.
ireallydontknowwhatimdoing atall also what what is up with street lights? The lights being on where he was searching for food??? The cell phone saving his voice mail on a service long dead. Voice mail is generally saved with the carrier. NOT the phone. A good film needs to make notice of the small things. The story here is good. The dialog is good. The acting is even ok. But very important things were missed here. Fun film none the less.
I work as an electrician and we actually hook up generator panels and generators to work multiple lights, water pumps, ranges, and more. Yes the generator would need a lot of juice to it, but it's more than doable.

As a filmmaker I really applaud this guy. I was capitvated every moment of this short film and it's very well done. All the small knicks and knacks that people on here are complaining about I didn't even notice until I started reading through the reviews. However, well done and great job! I'm looking forward to the sequel. The ending was killer and I want to know what happens next.
