As a 19 year old, I would honestly love to hear "Oh Sheila" at any of those places right now. From the 3 years that I've explored 80's culture, I've seen some good and some bad, but the good outweighed the bad for sure. It literally looked like Heaven on Earth; there was more effort put into making music and everyone could express themselves freely and wildly (although LGBTQ+ acceptance was a work in progress). No music today can compare to the 80’s and 90’s...all music! Rap, rock,..etc. People in music then worked much harder and were more determined for their passion for music
@@uploadvidz4490 Sure, speed up the BPM, and the entire song is basically the verses of "Lady Cab Driver", I don't view this as a knock really, Prince himself stole "Purple Rain" from the close of Journey's "Faithfully". They never sued him either.
It's "Lady Cab Driver" with the grunting at the end meets "1999" with the sustained keyboard chords at the start. It's actually kind of cool how they morphed two Prince classics into one hit song. I think it was named "Oh Shelia" because "Oh Apollonia" was a syllable too long.
Honestly, I wish more music like this was around today. Like music is supposed to make full circles... I want this back. I see some remixes that are decent, but I want an era of this shit. I was a kid when this came out, but I want to be an adult and be out where whole nights is nothing but this.
Fun fact: 'sheila' is a slang word for a woman among Australians, hence the accent at the beginning Edit: the singer's Australian-esque accent was pure coincidence
UploadVidZ I’m not so sure the band was thinking that deeply about it. It sounds British to me & more than likely, the singer was just trying to sound cool.
@@coolcat6303 You're right. The lead singer was noted in an interview for basically saying that's why he did the accent (whatever he was going for). He said he always liked talking like that and added it to the track cause he thought it would just be cool to do it! And it fucking worked! Haha!!!

No music today can compare to the 80’s and 90’s...all music! Rap, rock,..etc. People in music then worked much harder and were more determined for their passion for music
Johnny Johnson 💯
He sure can sing and groove! The band is tight! What happened to he/them?
Y'all and those Jeri Curls.🤣🤣
THE LEAD SINGER HAD A HUGE CRUSH ON SHEILA E. AND DEDICATED THIS SONG TO HER!!
Not according to the lead singer. www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=24243
he lied it was proven on the show "Unsung"
Hate to admit it but the jherri curls was poppin' lmao
It was only a couple of groups that had the best jheri curl.... Troop and Ready For The World. Lol
+Joy Weemes True lol
+Joy Weemes NWA, Force MD's, and Full Force?
+C. Fairman ice cube was the only that had the Jerry curl
+Belizean Gal Eazy E had one.
Real musical talents and choreography to boot! That's a drum kit not a drum machine. I love it!
the greatest song Prince never wrote
He did write it, only problem it was called "Lady Cab Driver". He could have sued the hell out of them, but never did.
@@JClaus1221 not quite like Lady Cab Driver
@@uploadvidz4490 Sure, speed up the BPM, and the entire song is basically the verses of "Lady Cab Driver", I don't view this as a knock really, Prince himself stole "Purple Rain" from the close of Journey's "Faithfully". They never sued him either.
I'm surprised he didn't write after all the title of the song is the name of his ex gf Sheila E.

Listen to latest album from The 1975 . you might be like it.
Hariz Soe'oed I have. My dad was a DJ when I was a kid. I was born in 82'.
XiAmFAUSTX bruno mars has been doin pretty 80s shit lately
Trout Flanders Yeah but he is corny AF though. His style is like you said, but still lacks the depth of this.
Them brothers was singing and playing their hearts out.. they could at least give em some AC... brothers sweatin they Jerry curls and perm juice out
😂😂😂😂😂
For real😂😂😂
And them white polyester suits didn't help either.
LMAF!!!!😂😂
That's why they just doing that 2 step😂
if Prince influenced this song, then all bands should emulate Prince.
Fun fact: 'sheila' is a slang word for a woman among Australians, hence the accent at the beginning
Edit: the singer's Australian-esque accent was pure coincidence
UploadVidZ I’m not so sure the band was thinking that deeply about it. It sounds British to me & more than likely, the singer was just trying to sound cool.
Cool Cat you would be suprised how much thought goes into thinking off a lyrics.
@@coolcat6303 definitely sounds like an aussie accent, not sounding british at all
@@coolcat6303 You're right. The lead singer was noted in an interview for basically saying that's why he did the accent (whatever he was going for). He said he always liked talking like that and added it to the track cause he thought it would just be cool to do it! And it fucking worked! Haha!!!
@@rogercasanova I always thought they were Australian. When I found out they weren't I felt betrayed.
love it, especially the Prince styled double snare drum
This whole song is Prince styled.
+Tane Potaka the Minneapolis Sound was STRONG at the time. glad they were so heavily influenced, it gave us this.....and a few others.
Xachary Jarboe Kirsh Sheri curl music
It’s “Lady Cab Driver” by Prince except with different lyrics
@@Moneytane1976 It is actually a copy of Prince's Lady Cab Driver.
In college when I would walk into my dance class my friends would start singing this song to me! Nice💕💕💕💕💕
A guy at works greets me by saying "Oh Sheila", he will even yell it across the room or down a hallway.
You had awesome friends.
I do that even today to any woman named Sheila who grew up in the 80s. And I make them blessed so hard.
nobody gives a shit when I walk into a room 🤣
@@dizmop Oh *Dizmop* when you walk 🚶♂️ into a room I take notice. Gosh I light up like a light 💡 bulb 😃 TaTa October 7,2022
Best thing about the 80s was that nobody saw color in any of music. It was all good.
The lead singer sounds like he’s from England 🏴
A spot of Tea and a biscuit please.
He is not. Said in an interview he just liked the way it sounded.
There was a lot of Jeri curl activator in this video.
You ain't neva lying nun but juice don't slip and fall
Soul glo baby!
Drip drip lol
Lol
Boxes of it!
back when music was MUSIC
What a tremendously classic old school song back in the 1980's but still a BANGER then Ready For The World
The juiciness of the Jheri Curls is staggering.
I remember when this song first came out, people thought it was a Prince song.
July 12th 2024!!!!🎉😍🙌🏽🫶🏽 this was one of my dad’s favorites when I was growing up🥰🥰🥰

Ryan Evans yes you can tell prince were their role model
I thought prince wrote this for sheila e
@@bravesirrobin1793 Nope, I thought that as well but found out he had no part in writing this song.
@@cory5495 no kidding prince was definitely an influence though I think
@@bravesirrobin1793 DEFINITELY, in my opinion this is a bit too much swagger jacking but I love the song.
Dedicated to my grandma Sheila who was 66😭 r.i.p
Kinda creepy that you'd dedicate this song to your grandma.
@@adamw8201 Lmfao 😂😂😂

Heavy Prince and Time influence.
Man! LOL!...... All the house parties back in the 80's and the activator was flying left and right! LOL! I'll never forget all the sheets and pillows I would destroy with that mess in my head.

I only recently discovered this song. via listening to Classic American Top 40 episodes. It was in the countdown in September 1985. Time of the infamous dead dog dedication.
I’m listening to it and it’s November 2020
