    Great radio and super review. Sounds like my FTdx101MP will be replaced in the not too distant future. It would be interesting to see and hear the radio working in diversity mode. Looking forward to the arrival of the Ultra version arriving in. 73 de GI8WFA.👍

    Proper bit of kit looks like a replacement for my flexradio

      It is very very good. Flex still wins for Remote operation, but the Anan G2 for maybe most other areas except maybe the 6700.

    Mark can I congratulate you on a superb review - having been licensed for 62 years I have seen some changes the G2 is remarkable and certainly ranks high in the changes I have experienced - please can you comment on how this compares to the Flex 6600M

      Hi, thank you so much for your feedback. The AnanG2 would win in all areas I can think of, that is unless one is remote operating, where Flex is still king of remote operation; Anan at this stage would not be easy to remote operate.

    Thank you for the presentation, most interesting. Could you perhaps answer two queries I have:
    1. How does the G2 behave in CW transmit? QSK wise, relay or Pin Diode switching? What's the noise level if no pin diode switching?
    2. What is the lowest power output? Does it reliably go under 1 Watt?

    • @Martin_Lynch
      @Martin_Lynch  6 месяцев назад +3

      I will have to pass on the first question, maybe one for the developers, though the manuals can be freely downloaded from the Anan website. The G2 does have a low power port for a Transverter, plus you can had limit the TX in the config settings. The finals are de-rated from 200W to 100W for robust operation, pulling them back to 1W would not be ideal.

    According to the Specifications the Tx DAC resolution is 16 bits (not 14).

    Thanks for the excellent review of the G2. Isn't true that this version of the G2 has software built in and you can just add a monitor, mouse and keyboard and you can operate? Using the PC just gives you more software options? Thanks.

    • @Martin_Lynch
      @Martin_Lynch  6 месяцев назад +1

      Hi, great question. So far, the only tested methods of interfacing with the G2 is either via piHPSDR running on a Raspberry Pie Touch Screen display, or, via Thetis HPSDR running on a Windows PC with a Gigabit Ethernet connection. We are looking to experiment implementing piHPSDR on the G2's onboard Raspberry Pie, but until that has been tested and confirmed or another Ham has achieved this, we cannot confirm this capability.

      @johndenver4847 4 месяца назад

      @@Martin_Lynchyou can hook up a monitor, keyboard and mouse to the G2 without the front panel and use it standalone. It will open up the Raspbian Linux desktop and then you will have to close P2APP which feeds data to the ethernet port for Thetis. Then, you can start PiHPSDR from the Raspbian desktop.

    • @Martin_Lynch
      @Martin_Lynch  6 месяцев назад +2

      Yes a DC PowerPole connection lead is included to connect to a quality Ham Class 13.8v DC supply that needs to be purchased separately.

    Thanks for the great review ! Do I understand correctly that the SDR processing software normally runs ON the PC, not in the radio ? You mentioned "trying" to install it on the raspberry PI in the ANAN. Is that hard to do for some reason and in that case, does the Thetis software revert to just being a client but work the same way ? Lastly, do you normally have these in stock and do you guys support them directly. I heard nothing but horror stories about the company itself. Thanks !

    • @Martin_Lynch
      @Martin_Lynch  5 месяцев назад +1

      Hi, thank you for your feedback and comments. The Anan G2 without display has its software running on an external computer (often a PC running Thetis, but this is not manditory).
      The Anan G2 WITH Display, can have either piHPSDR running onboard the Anan /or Thetis running on a PC.
      YES we have both in stock ready for shipping. Any purchases of the Anan from us at ML&S enjoy direct support from our Team for both Sale & Aftersales service - warm regards Mark

    Why bring a laptop when the G2 has Thetis built in?

    • @Martin_Lynch
      @Martin_Lynch  6 месяцев назад +4

      Thetis is not built into the G2. piHPSDR IS included with the G2 that has a front control panel. Thetis is a Windows only software fork, which comes from HPSDR which in turn is derived from PowerSDR.

    Not sure why anyone would buy Apache Labs over Flex. If somebody wants a “science experiment” go buy the HFSignals RPi based rig for $500.

    • @Martin_Lynch
      @Martin_Lynch  6 месяцев назад +2

      Each to there own, remembering our HAM licenses are issued for experimentation and self educational purposes.

      Why would anyone buy a Flex? The Smart SDR is long in the tooth as well as the hardware. They have done nothing to upgrade both since 2011. They actually downgraded the hardware, the original 6000 series 6300, 6500, and 6700 were built like tanks with inner robust metal framing and thicker quality PCB and components. Then the 6400 and 6600 were released with a Shrinkflation design. The last big thing was v2.0 (2018), I paid $200 for SmartLink remoting yes it's great but since then the only thing Flex has released is Patch Versions of software 3.0 something to repair and try to fix the last 3.0 versions. Many radios went back with corrupted SD card failures and I know 3 operators that the radio burnt and smoked components while sitting idle YES electrical smoke from the back of the transceiver.
