    Best spark plug video on RUclips! Very informative, but the hole on the spark plug gauge is not for hooking it to your keychain. That hole is actually used to set the gap. Just a little FYI just in case you weren't aware.

    Thanks this was real helpful. Any chance you have a vid walking thru the plug install/ torque procedures? I've read other places where people talked about tightening like 2/3 then loosening and tightening loke only a 1/4 turn. Sounds like a bad idea to me as I'd think you only want to torque down the crush seal once.

    My weed eater didn't run except for like half a second sometimes.
    Turns out the spark plug was crushed, for a reason i'm not entirely sure about (factory plug, never taken out or dropped). So I didn't have a wire gapper of any kind so I just took some needle nose pliers and carefully bent it back in a roughly good position and now it works fine!

    Excellent tutorial. All 1970's Suzuki tripples had a different plug gap setting for the middle cylinder than the outside cylinders. Would have found it interesting if you'd touched on gapping 3 earth prong plugs such as Lodge / Golden Lodge Sintox HH14, etc. I've had to gap these in the past and the expression, "F**king fiddly" is a bit of an understatement.

    Good video. Fyi, the ramp gapper should be read right when it snug. What I read from your video on the ramp gapper was .037. That's why .035 wire was loose and .040 wire was tight. You did not read the disc gapper right.

    NGK spark plugs traditionally leave the factory pre-gapped for their most popular application. However, a plug may fit hundreds of engines, from cars to golf carts. Gapping the plugs to your engine's specifications is important to prevent pre-ignition, detonation, fouling and poor fuel economy

      Anywhere in between those numbers. Here's a tip. Set a new plug at the low or "tighter" spec. The reason is as it wears it will get larger. Stay tuned for my new website how2wrench.com!

    Whenever you purchase spark plug wet the white clay covering sparkpoint with Elfie and keep it vertical to dry for 18 Hrs , this is to fill clay crestal gaps which otherwise will get filled with compressed oil mixed in fuel and produce conduction , know with this procedure your plug will have double life and you will realise the effect.

  • @Trollygag
    @Trollygag 8 лет назад +2

    "what are you doing to the sparkplug?" "Uh... " "You're damaging it, blah blah that's why you should use the wire gap" *unintentionally demonstrates why a wire gap tool is potentially just as damaging if not more so*

  • @BrokeStatusMechanic

    Not to put this video down because it is very helpful to someone who is trying to learn to gap plugs... But i would not recommend you putting any lubricant or anti seize on a plugs threads. Based on any plugs torque readings are taken from a dry metal to metal torque value. if you put any lubricant or anti seize allowing less friction to be built before coming to its torque value, you will in turn over torque your plug and potentially do damage to the plug the head or both.

    • @MrCROBosanceros
      @MrCROBosanceros 8 лет назад +1

      I always put anti seize on the spurk plug threads.I'm doing that since 1994.,and I never had any problem.

      modern sparkplugs are coated with anti corrosion

    • @metalhalide4043
      @metalhalide4043 6 лет назад

      That is 100% correct, TORQUE CLEAN AND DRY unless manual says otherwise. Spark plugs do come with a protective coating. You will have a really bad day if you strip spark plug threads.

    • @metalhalide4043
      @metalhalide4043 6 лет назад +1

      On aluminum heads it sure can, it may take many cycles or happen the first time. Anti-seize will reduce the metal to metal thread friction greatly and increase the clamping force. Every OEM torque spec is for CLEAN AND DRY unless specified otherwise. To be safe I would follow the OEM specs and put the same exact plugs back in, never had any issues with this method.

    • @metalhalide4043
      @metalhalide4043 6 лет назад

      Not needed with the plugs today, most all have a silver Anti-seize plating on there already. The OEM plugs will guarantee no issues, if you got lots of engine mods then other plugs and gap specs maybe needed.
