    Do you also feel like you can't relax while sketching? What are your ways of dealing with the pressure? :)

    • @clararuru3530
      @clararuru3530 7 лет назад +3

      Brushes and Bunnies Yeah I can almost never relax while sketching! The way I deal with it is by pressuring my muscles really hard if that makes any kind of sense, and then releasing them. I feel more relaxed that way. Or it also helps me to turn around to an angle that no one can see what I'm drawing, that also helps me feel more secure and that way I can draw without as much worry. Great tips by the way!

      if you just think about why you're stressing and then address that issue. it's like when you pause in a drawing and step back and the drawing takes on a new perspective.

      I'm terrible for being too much of a perfectionist, which is really bad when you are leaning something like sketching. I know I could be much better if I just committed more time to practicing, but I see sketch after sketch looking nothing like I imagined it and give up far too easily... usually with the obligatory self flagellation thrown in.
      I'm trying to be a little gentler with my self critiquing these days, and the improvement is noticeable. Not as fast as I'd like, but enough that I can be content. Vids like yours that point out it's OK to make art that's not perfect have really helped, and posting to places like deviantart has also stopped me getting so down on myself. There is nothing like someone commenting with "hey that's ~insert game character or actor etc here~" to make you realize that you are nowhere near as bad as you think you are! :D
      I've also come to value the 'sketch a day' mentality. I'm not religious about it, I don't want to frustrate myself too much by forcing it when I don't feel like it, but again the improvement even doing a sketch 4-5 days a week is awesome!
      Thanks for your vids, you have added some much needed motivation to my art :D

      Sometimes I can never fall asleep, so I a,ways have the idea to sketch and I thought that it would help tire out my eyes, but it just makes me more awake😅😭😭😭

    We are human. It seems to be a human trait to put too much pressure on ourselves. All artists are allowed to make "bad art" we should collectively change attitudes to art on social media and make it OK to share all art. Not just "good art" there is another smaller artist youtuber who's name escapes me just now, I think it was Amanda Elise art started a hashtag campaign to share bad art. I have put pressure on myself to only show my good art on social media but I am making the effort to change my attitude to I'm allowed to make and show bad art. Now interestingly I've had some really good positive comments about art I've done that did not meet my expectations (that's all bad art is at the end of the day) it's amazing what a change of perspective can do for us. I'm 47 and too long in the tooth now to be bothered with worrying about what others think. Especially as people rarely react how you expect them to towards any given art work. We simply cannot control what other people think of our work. Regardless of how good we are. I personally do not want to hang photo realistic art work on my walls no matter how amazing the work is. It does not mean photo realistic work is bad art to me, it just means it does not meet my expectation of what I like as art, my personal preference with art lies with a different kind of art. Oh yeah and now I have reached my age, I can hand on heart say we never stop learning 😉 I am returning late to art from many years away and I'm loving the process hope this helps in some way. Sorry very long message. Hope it helps in some way shape or form.

      Wow! The campaign to share bad art sounds like an amazing idea. I will check her out for sure. You see, I really like this attitude of embracing your faults and mistakes. This is something that is not promoted in school, work and life in general. And what you say about receiving positive comments on what you thought was "bad art" - this is totally true! So many times this has happened to me and I was surprised. That being said, welcome back to the art world! I hope you have a fulfilling and enjoyable journey :)

      Thank you! All I can say to you is that finishing an art piece, even if it's just a sketch/doodle is the best thing you can do for yourself. By doing this, you would have accomplished something, learned something and you would also have a finished sketch to look upon in 1 year's time to see how far you've progressed :)

    I haven't realized it before but now that you've mentioned it... I do have troubles with relaxing while sketching. The main reason for that is that I really want to go to design school one day, but my art-skills have to be good enough to get accepted to it... soo there's always this "I need to practice and get better and improve!!" in the back of my mind. It keeps me going, but also takes away a lot of the free-spirited, relaxing part of making art.
    Your video is really helpful and inspiring (as your whole channel is!), so thank you for the great content!

    • @BrushesandBunnies
      @BrushesandBunnies  7 лет назад +1

      Coming from someone who was accepted and did a Bachelor of Design, art skills is one thing but you also need design skills! You need to work on both traditional and digital aspects of design. Good luck!! and thank you for the sweet comment

    So true. My whole life I drew for the wrong reasons like validation and approval and basically stopped sketching for about ten years and always said I wasn’t creative. I never treated a sketchbook like a sketchbook and treated every page like I needed to produce a finished product that would be worth showing people. This led to me never taking any risks or trying new techniques I hadn’t gotten good at yet and therefore I never really grew as an artist. After realizing this was how I approached art, I’ve very recently started again only this time I’m doing it solely for me. I’m finding the enjoyment again that I had lost somewhere along the way and I’m excited to see where it takes me.

    So I know this was 3 years ago, but I just wanted to let you know that you specifically have helped me improve my art sooooo much. Faces have always been one of the main things I've struggled with and I've even had an art teacher kind of belittle me for them (not because they weren't decent, but because they just weren't good enough in his opinion or realistic enough) and after studying your videos on the Loomis Method for the past year, I'm finally creating art that I've always wanted to, but never thought I'd be able to. I wish I could share with you the pictures I've done and how you can so visibly see the progress in them. You have helped me develop my own style when it comes to faces, because when I first found your channel, I was trying to emulate you as much I could. You are a wonderful artist and I appreciate your videos so much. I've wanted to start my own RUclips channel as well, but I wouldn't even know where to begin.
    Anyway, I just wanted to thank you and remind you that your art matters so much and you are so talented, I really hope that you've learned to ignore anyone that says otherwise. 🤍

    Haha, I don't find art relaxing in the slightest unfortunately but I think that's got more to do with my personality and being a bit of a stress head in general haha. I've been drawing on and off for years and I even went to uni for art (technically games design but hey details) and I still feel like my art isn't great which is my biggest frustration :( and its usually the reason why I stop drawing cause I dislike my art so much of the time. I am working on improving my art and my mindset with art and now I've finally got my buzz for drawing again I just hope I can keep it up and keep going with my art and get somewhere eventually.

    This video could not be more relatable!!!! As an artist I was never confident in myself, always insecure about the mistakes I made and then I would give up. I am always embarrassed for people to see my art and even to work on it publicly (I don’t work on anything until I am alone in my room at night). Faces and realistic art has always been something I have wanted to master but have always struggled with it. I am really glad I am not alone in feeling this way. Thank you for making this video. 💗

    Using my drawing as a way to keep working with my anxiety too but sometimes I can’t relax and I still don’t find my own style that’s what is bothering me a bit but I try overcome it and still keep going. Too much pressure is not good prob gets worse and we stop drawing and we love it. Doesn’t matter how it looks. Thank you for your video and all the videos so much useful guides. ✍🏻🧡keep going

    Thank you so much for this video. I'm a beginning artist and when I tell people that I've been painting or drawing, they always say they want to see what I've done. But those works - which are mostly me trying to figure out something - are only for me. To know that I'm not obligated to share my work really makes it easier for me to fail and not feel badly about my failures!!

    Wow so true, I've drawn since I was very young, but last ten years I couldn't keep up the passion for drawing or more then two-three weeks and just give up for a few months. Get so frustrated and angry and annoyed that I wasn't getting better fast enough. But realized now that the pressure I put on my self is waay unrealistic to get better so fast. I've never gone through the basic of drawing people and stuff, I've just drawn from memory of a reference and got annoyed that the proportions are way off. So two weeks ago I started practice, studying different methods to proper learn to draw things like faces, body's and so on. And gotten so much better and a lot less pressure, and sketch just to sketch and loosen up

    Thanks Bunny, this was very helpful. I never relax while drawing, and watching this video made me realize why: 1. I treat it like a job (because I want it to be my job someday), and 2. I strive to make every drawing post-worthy. I like your idea of telling yourself before you even start that this is for YOU, it's okay to make mistakes, and to have fun. I'm going to try it. Thanks again!

    Man, I can so relate to erasing and redrawing an eyeball half a dozen times!!
    I still haven't learned how to relax when drawing. It all feels like a struggle, and if I make something halfway decent, it feels like an accident rather than me doing it by skill. I struggle just getting shapes and proportions and alignments correct (I mostly draw faces/characters). While some things are improving, I still feel like I'm never going to "get there", to a point where I can sit down, draw for 10 minutes, and have something I'm proud of.

    You should not focus on details until you have your whole layout finished. Then you can go back and fix those details. The reason this works so well, is because it gives you a whole assortment of elements to compare each piece to. Even starting with a stick figure and transferring it into something else is better.

    I don't generally feel the stress or pressure while I'm sketching... it's when I start wanting to color it and I suck at color composition. When I'm done with a piece and I like it, I THEN feel the stress and anxiety over how it will be perceived. I then pick it apart and hate it and won't post it. It's just not that good...
