An 8 speed Altus shifter is cheap and work great. I converted a bike over here to a 1x and the Altus derailleur with a goat link handled a 11-42t cassette just fine.
I agree with Kevin H, this bike would be good to do a mullet build and see how that performs on the cats meow. Or the other technical trail you did the box 9 groupset review on. As always, thanks for kicking off the weekend!
Love a 29 …. Took our Play shout last weekend when we got a lucky spring break from the weather in Cleveland but things are back to normal for a while now….☃️☃️❄️❄️ however we both realize we definitely need to get new bikes so we’ve been checking out your videos and shopping around and will definitely figure out something new before the real spring hits that’s for sure 🚲🚲💪💪
Good to hear there was a break for you! Man with them long oll arms out will need some bikes that are sized, checkout a locL bike shop and get back to us on what they have. We'll the Head bike we reviewed has sized bikes that go up to an xl.......Tha and some ape hangers and you are SET!!! 🦧🦧🦧😉
Glad it made it there safe! I was planning on sending the extra anyways, I figure this way it would save some $$ on shipping. edit: thanks for the mention!
Thanks man! I told The Tick that you threw in some extras but we were both surprised 😮. We will probably start a build on this frame sometime this summer (if we can wait😜).
😉😉😉 Smoked parts for sure! And yes, maybe some 165mm cranks that's a good idea. The Ardor does not have the greatest clearance but it does have some great geo! Thanks Berserker🤘
The intro with the kid was cute. He reminded me of my kiddo when he was that small (he's 20 now). As for the bike, at 34 lbs, I think the fork and 1X conversion alone could get you below 30 lbs, so maybe having the tapered head tube is not such a big thing if the quality of the bike is good.
I agree kid intro was really cute! Miss my kids being that little. Seems like the bones are a quality bike and believe they can still run tapered fork given headtube diameter with an external cup 44/40 lower headset. Gives them options for all type of forks
Very cute kid indeed! Jacob is gold man, now I think this can be a for sure 28lb bike, also you bring up a point with quality. Thanks as always Lebron Photo.....not .com! Appreciate the coffees man, we filmed a shoutout video last night with an install of some budget brakes! 4piston!!!
The Cheech did a great job! You guys are right about the little small extras that separate these bikes from the less expensive bikes. I think it's that extra TLC and the slightly higher components.
That video of Jacob was AWESOME! HAHAHAHAH This Marin definitely seems like the bones are great and will be a very nice bike after some love is put into it! I need to come visit the Cats Meow sometime! Side note - I will be in Bentonville towards the end of May with some buds...... Potential Colab finally???

My Gravity FSX 1.0 has the same groupset and shifters and all I put the Xtech HB-100 brakes on mine it worked out great... same fork also that my bike came with but mine is a 26" but iI got that 120 Xfusion air fork now on it.
He'll yeah man, 8 bet you sbatches up that fork from ebay. We see them all the time, it's almost worth getting just to have! X-Fusion makes some great stuff.

I definitely think Cheech deserves a build as looks like real quality frame. Some of Marin’s more expensive hardtail frames look the same but get few extra features. I think this will be a good bike to try 29, Mullet and 27.5 and use some existing parts of other bikes to keep costs down. Good day, friends is this a real powerful mountain bike? is it good for aggressive driving? after similar (as in this video) trips - are all parts of the bike in order? does the wheel rim bend? Thanks in advance for your reply!.
The 27.5 medium Ridge 2 has a Cold Ale # of 8.45 that should fit you. The 29 medium with a CA# of 8.83 is probably too large. The bikes I feel most comfortable with at 6 feet have CA #s of 8.55 and 8.66. The 68° head angle vs. 69° on the Head, probably helped with your ride.
You should remove the reflectors, they can cut you if they snap off. If you want reflectors, use those made for slapping on your arm and legs. I have two on the handlebar, one on the right fork leg.
Great video guys! It would be interesting to see what kind of difference a lighter front fork and cut seat post would make without changing the drivetrain. My Trek Verve 3 has a combination Acera shifter and brake lever setup but, it is my street commuter. It does feel different from the Deore Lx and Dia-Compe DP7x setup on my Specialized FSR Sport MTB. The Deore shifts like butter and has a shorter reach between the index and thumb shifters. The frame on the Marin looks great and would be worth investing in for future projects.
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS the Trek is strictly for road trips and around town. The wheels and tires are 700c which are too narrow for off road use but, I bought it to be able to ride with my wife on her road bike. It is comfortable within those uses. I look forward to seeing you do a future build on the Marin.
Hey, now we live outside of Morrilton. Bit Hot Springs has got some of the best trails and is only an hour away so it makes complete sense to film here. Now regarding the bike, if it's a straight steerer, check-out the rockshox just silver tk. It's affordable and is quite a tough fork.
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS I've literally been watching all y'all's videos and just purchased this exact fork! I had the recon silver on my last bike but didn't know about the Judy until watching your stuff. I'll probably have the guys at spacity put it on for me. Thanks 👍
You feel why people are jumping on 29ers now. If you get to ride a good one that fits you, it will change your perspective. This bike even with all it's entry level stuff carried so much speed due to the 29er wheels.
Jeremiah has liked 29ers for a minute but they don't like his riding style. The way he rides 27.5 or even 26ers are probably a better bet. He does enjoy the flowy trails and climbing on a 29er, but hard fast change of direction and mix terrain/xc style of trails he suffers. We are hoping to possibly get a 29er with a small frame to see how that goes. We are also thinking about making the Marin a 27.5 bike. Thanks man
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS yup, frame and geo on a 29er makes a big difference. Yes it won't be as fast in quick switch backs but you just carry so much speed esp on the rough sections with the roll over speed and it still jumps really good. I actually like the gyroscopic effect of the larger wheels in the air. When you are throwing the bike around in the air, it actually feels self corrects a lot better so you need more power in your movements which feels more natural vs being worried about over rotating the bike in the air etc. It took me a long time to convert to riding 29ers. It just takes the right one for the light bulb to go off.
Agreed, it might drop the bottom bracket enough to get pedal strikes with 170s. A mullet with 27.5 in the back would be less of a change and slacken the front. Should be fun to play around and see.
New to all of this and recently stumbled on to your channel. I just picked this bike up and was looking at converting to a 1x. Any suggestions? Looking forward to some upgrade videos. TIA
Hey brother, thanks for joining us and welcome to the #wolfticknation. Now regarding 1xs I would take a look at the ixf crankset. We have a video on it but I do warn you it's a an oldie and not the greatest. We did just install a sram crankset you mat wanna check out, it's in our latest videos, we installed on the Ardor. Good luck and next week I believe we will install a 1x on a 3x!!
A get video again your favourite person in Britain well what can I say to that mind you he was good and his chips looked very nice as for the bike it looked good on the trail and as for the mongoose frame that will need some great bits very nice 👍

Hang on. I know you're not new around here. We can't cut the seatpost or do anything until after the Realtime Review. Now that we have done that we can make adjustments. After we do the time trial we can start upgrading. We have rules around here you know🤣.
the stock coil forks are usually noisy and rattle. If its not factory greased & torqued, some things might be creaking. but it should be possible to quiet the bike down
Man there is little stuff here and there but untimely the chain slap is what we are number one concerned with. Forks and 3x can be changed but it sure is nice to have a legit rear derailleur to save on cost.
Altus isn't bad considering the price of the bike. Usually entry level bikes come with tourneys or even worse the 'pro rush' / 'axe' / no name derailleurs. The tourneys have plastic threads on the barrel adjusters and stuff. Altus is shimano SIS indexing as far as I know which in terms of compatibility shouldn't be bad.. should be able to do 6-8 speeds. At the end of the day its a 20$ derailleur, so...
9:07 the only shots of what you're actually riding.... Just like another youtubers reviews.... Imagine how awful topgear would be with just an in camera video for 20 minutes..... If I want to look at the front wheel while moving at walking pace I could just watch hardtail party with better camera settings
Let me first of all congratulate you on what might actually be the worst comment ever🏆. Not sure what in camera video is but I can assure you that Top Gear had the budget to basically do whatever they want. We call our reviews exactly what they are, "Realtime Reviews". No rehearsal, no multiple takes, no script, no production company, just honest feelings and findings. Hardtail Party is actually one of the very few bike related channels that is not part of the #wolfticknation that I watch occasionally. Maybe you should just watch our Initial Impressions episodes where we show the bike and we talk about some of the features and our opinions on looks as well as other stuff. If you ever make it to Arkansas, make sure you let us know. It would be fun to watch The Tick blow you off the trail.🤣
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS ruclips.net/video/ZaE_tXvPSgo/видео.html Here's a review/first impression. This guy is making no money and doing it for fun. His video style has insight, told us what broke, what should be replaced. Its actually a video you'd watch more than once all the way through.
You literally sent a link to a channel that has some shorts and a couple of videos? I watched about a minute of it, but it's not a Realtime Review for one. What you don't appreciate is how hard a Realtime Review is to pull off😆. If you had watched some more of our episodes you would know that we have also done some voice over reviews, and have some b-roll shots. Our channel is about a father and son that happens to be into mountain biking. We have put 50 hours a week into this for two years now and are completely happy with our progress and growth. You don't understand that what we are doing is what we want to do, and not what others think we should do. We don't copy other channels, we have other channels start to copy us. People either love how we do things or hate how we do things, and that's exactly what we like. Sorry your guy in the link didn't make it, but don't expect us to pick up his style and kill our channel anytime soon. You can watch us or not, but we are who we are and love the #wolfticknation and they love us back. Hopefully you can understand what I'm saying, because I'm guessing you are from another country and that might be playing a part in you not understanding our style.

LOVE THE SCIENCE 😁😁🙏😉
Really loving the Cheech Marin, surprised it was such a good ride even though you noted it might be a little oversized
Man us too, the bike seems legit and like it just wants to be ridden and upgraded. Gonna make a fine project Chuck U! See ya soon brother👍👍
You should remove the reflectors, they can cut you if they snap off. If you want reflectors, use those made for slapping on your arm and legs.
I have two on the handlebar, one on the right fork leg.
You know the rules.
Have cracked two of these frames in the past year, was great up until then!
OH MY!!! What the hell were you doing!! LOL 😉
Do you think that with 5'9 or 178cm I should choose size M or I'd better go for L
That Marin looks good, can't wait for the upgrades
Right there with ha big man, thank you for watching as always HOMBRE!! 🙏
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS always
That Mar(L)in frame just looks heads above box store bikes quality wise
It is nice. We still don't like a few things, but it does look good and ride pretty good too.
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS Can't wait to see the upgrades!
You are right man, it would be interesting. Def a future build contender! Your Trek sounds like a smooth commuter lol
Start a new job on Monday... hopefully I'll have some disposable income now to join the Patreon!!
That would be great man, we would love to have ya!
Where are you located in Hot Springs? I ride these trails all the time and just got a Marin bobcat trail 4. What's a great fork for this bike?
Hey, now we live outside of Morrilton. Bit Hot Springs has got some of the best trails and is only an hour away so it makes complete sense to film here. Now regarding the bike, if it's a straight steerer, check-out the rockshox just silver tk. It's affordable and is quite a tough fork.
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS I've literally been watching all y'all's videos and just purchased this exact fork! I had the recon silver on my last bike but didn't know about the Judy until watching your stuff. I'll probably have the guys at spacity put it on for me. Thanks 👍
American guys, I mean now that you have put it out there can it be anything different than Project Veronica Corningstone? PRB and PVC!
🤣🤣 "American Guys" LOL Man it's Def VERONICA!!!
I have the same bike in large, I would love to see you guys upgrade the fork to something that’s lighter
Man sounds good, I am sure that will be on the list👍👍
Hey Wolfman, heard you mention a 5mm shorter crank. Looking at the spec, did yours come with a 175mm?
No Chuck, it has a 170mm. Just thinking if we were to convert to27.5 maybe a 165mm would work better for clearance issues...???
Agreed, it might drop the bottom bracket enough to get pedal strikes with 170s. A mullet with 27.5 in the back would be less of a change and slacken the front. Should be fun to play around and see.
Dang number 4. You guys are getting good
🤣🤣 Man that's still pretty damn good! Don't be hard on yourself. Lol
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS you ain't first you're last. 😉👉
Us old folks know a thing or two about Clue. I was laughing for a minute when you said that.
Man I love anything clue. The Tick has no idea🤣👍
The Clue movie was a gem even.
Cool. An alternative to the big 3 (Giant, TREK, Specialized).
The stock gt shifters should work so you guys can swap the brakes without the drivetrain
But what about the brakes?? All Integrated remember.
🤣🤣 Well thanks brother, you are OK but Jacob is wonderful!! HIS CHIPS?? YOU DO MEAN FRENCH FRIES 🍟😆😆😉 Man that mongoose frame is gonna be a great build, thanks for watching and showing some love Clive!!🤘💪
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS we call them chips because the bigger then french fries hope that frame will look sweet 👍
Can the Bolinas Ridge 2 use 2.4 tires with the factory rims?
Hey Wolfdad.... my new job is in a beer distribution warehouse!!! muahahaha :P
You bastard.....🤬 Now if there is any leftover soldiers, send them our way! 🤣🤣😉
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS Will do!!
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS me too please 😂😂😂
This should be the Cheech & Chong Bike.
🤣🤣 wolfmans calling it cheech!! LOL
i'm running an 11-46T on my altus, i got it cos it was the cheapest 8s derailleur i could get haha
Nothing wrong with that brother, 46 is what we run on the acolyte.
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS yeah i really would like the acolyte, a pitty it needs a shifter too.
i bought this one with a derailleur extender for about 1/5 the price of acolyte shifter+derailleur. well it would have been if it wasn't for the missing hanger extension in another package.. i didn't get ripped off as bad as you for the "wolflink" (or whatever it was called), but i did get ripped off
Marin bikes are jewels .
This one is super nice 👌
Do you like this better than the coop dirt 1.1 ?
Wolftick hype
🏆🥇👍
That competitive cyclist box 😳 I used to work for them (kinda haha I worked for backcountry their parent company)
😂😂😉 Perfect Emoji
OH SHIT!!! PROJECT RON BURGANDY #2!
Victoria Corningstone!!
Do you have a recommendation for a budget dropper post?
Man, satori makes some 99 dollar ones, but it depends. Are you looking for internal or external and what size.
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS 27.2 any style actuator 100mm travel would do
Hella Jealous about the frame, Been looking all over for the Ardor and can't seem to find a single one anymore, Guess i'll stick with my Axum.
Oh now! Axum is a sweet ride too🤣🤣 but i feel ya man, the Ardor is a sweet frame design. Victoria Corningstone
Look like it prooformed pretty good! Mullet it!
HA ha I think we may just have to do that h?? Seems like a great platform for it.
Is 2.4 wide tires compatible with bolinas ridge 2 sir?
What size should I get if I am 6' 3" and 180 lbs?
Since the bike is a cross country rig, I would say look at an XL. Thanks man and good luck!
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS Thank you!
You can buy a rear shifter seperate
Yeah true, but you would need a separate brake lever, it's connected. We need need show it better...
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS I'm sure you have a set of brake levers hanging around the shop. Or just put a set of hydraulic ones on.
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS i saw it, but i meant if your changing the brakes, just get a seperate shifter
Listen you two. We have to talk about the pluses and minuses for the average person, not us😁. Of course we can just replace the shifter and brakes at the same time, but not everyone can. Y'all feeling us on this?😜🤣
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS Ok, ok, just disconnect the front shifter and run as is. Sorted👍
Hey Dad and son I think the show is great I'm from Canada Ontario was wondering if you can give me a list of the best parts you have changed on the GT aggressor pro as I will be buying one sorry mean best upgrades I only shop from Amazon this would mean alot to me as I really respect what you guys do Thnaks so much

You can cut the seatpost!!!
Hang on. I know you're not new around here. We can't cut the seatpost or do anything until after the Realtime Review. Now that we have done that we can make adjustments. After we do the time trial we can start upgrading. We have rules around here you know🤣.
I wanted to know how tall you are? I don’t know if a 29 is to big for me
Does it count as a real time review if Tick doesn't get a flat or wreck??? :P :P :P
🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
one thing I don't like about these cheap bikes is they make too much noise
the stock coil forks are usually noisy and rattle. If its not factory greased & torqued, some things might be creaking. but it should be possible to quiet the bike down
Man there is little stuff here and there but untimely the chain slap is what we are number one concerned with. Forks and 3x can be changed but it sure is nice to have a legit rear derailleur to save on cost.
the 2022 is 699.00
Wow...
Ride a real 29er hardtail Rocky Mountain Growler
😉😉😉🤦♂️
Turn that bike into a 27.5 and see what happens .
Dude I could see that! 👀
9:45: watching in my noise cancelling headphones. That chicken sound in the left ear made me jump. Please don't do this.
Marin is pronounced in spanish , the same way you pronounce Marine in english .
Yeah we like to butcher things!
Sorry. Altus. Junk. Too many compatibility issues and hard to tune.
@@EBikeBuilder_ Acera is a better derailleur and about the same price. And not the road version.
🤦♂️
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS ruclips.net/video/ZaE_tXvPSgo/видео.html
Here's a review/first impression.
Hopefully you can understand what I'm saying, because I'm guessing you are from another country and that might be playing a part in you not understanding our style.
can you mabe check out babe som more expensive bikes
Possibly man, but the channel is budget friendly. What's your ide of expensive??
Mahhhhrin not mairin
