I have yet to be even mildly disappointed with any of your videos Rob. I’m amazed at the way you find new subjects for us. One of your skills is to keep your presentation simple and balanced. Please don’t depart from that approach. Kind regards and thank you.
I've watched many of your videos and they're all amazing! Thank you for the hard work you put into entertaining and educating the citizens of RUclips. I wish this were a series on PBS (very cool US public television group with the best programming). You're a great presenter and really make these historical people and places come alive!
Bless you S Campbell, that means a great deal to me, thank you my friend. Very honored to be compared to PBS! Ken Burns documentaries are one of my inspirations 😊 Thanks again and stay well.
The last time I visited the Queens house my wife and I took her younger brother as he was doing a project for school. He is now in his forties and I am a lot slower! Will have to make sure we get back again, had forgotten how beautiful that staircase is. Thanks for another great vid. Keep safe. C.
I feel like I should say "this was terrible" just to break my pattern of praising your videos... but this was another excellent post. Just the right amount of historical detail, just enough blend of historical/current, and just enough to be... well. Brilliant. You are spoiling us with these videos sir!
Thank you Rob. This was splendid. As a Londoner by birth, I am ashamed to say that I have never visited The Queen's House or The Banqueting Hall, both by the genius Inigo Jones. The tulip staircase is quite spectacular, as are the ceilings. I had to chuckle at the similarity between the Queen's House and a motorway service stop.
Hi Rob, another well researched offering for us. Now those Tulip stairs would have done me in 😮 How very civilised to have a covered walkway to keep you dry 😎 too. Cheers DougT
I didn't know Greenwich was such in interesting area of London. The videos you have made there have certainly inspired me to spend some time exploring there next time I am in London. Thanks again Rob. Brilliant!
Thank you Rob! I was lucky enough to visit the Queen's House myself in 2019 and see the Armada portrait. It wasn't very busy the day I went, so I was lucky to get great views of the Hall and the Tulip Stairs as well. I always learn so much from your videos: thanks so much for the detail about the history and the architecture. Fantastic.
Many congratulations Rob, I hope that you feel proud if your work and how it continues to evolve, entertain and inform. I truly feel that work like this deserves to be considered a documentary rather than just a video. Many thanks for your commitment. I always look forward with anticipation to receiving updates and notifications . Best regards, Lance
I've passed it on a boat but stupidly never visited and now never will. So the tour was great chance to see the artistic and architectural brilliance of Inigo Jones and in a past live was lucky to dine in his other wonderful building, the Banqueting Hall. It was greatly enjoyed and congratulate you and/or your cameraman/woman for the exquisite shots of the staircase. It also stirred some happy memories. Thank you. Rob 🙂
Thanks Rob. I’ve never yet managed to visit Greenwich but the historical films you have made ensure it’s on my visiting list next time I’m back in the UK. Thanks again mate. Very enjoyable and informative as usual
This was a joy. Loads of fascinating facts and some of your camera shots were lovely. Symmetry is so ascetically pleasing. That stairway is gorgeous. As for the ghost, who knows but it’s very intriguing. Great video Rob
Brilliant video, Rob. We had a bit of a spooky experience there once. We used to go Greenwich park and often we'd visit the Queen's Horse. One dark winter afternoon, many years ago, as we walked the colonnade, we felt a very strange atmosphere. Few people were around but a woman approached us and out of the blue, asked if my husband was in the military. He said no, and she then said she said moments before, she observed him walking in front of her in full military uniform! Then she just disappeared!
Again, superb content based upon impeccable research. I regret I missed The Queen's House on my last visit to England, but will certainly stop in when next I am there.
Rob Thank you very much for another superlative video excellent research and included some other views about London. Sir Christopher Wren must have taken inspiration from the Tulip stair case for in the right hand tower of St Paul's Cathedral there is a very similar set of stairs know as the Deans stair case ( you see these on an official guided tour )
I’m late to the party this week! How fabulous getting the place to yourself! Thank you for another wonderful history lesson Rob and showing us around a fantastic building 😊
I must compliment you yet again on your knowledge and, indeed, on your production skills. The way you manage seamlessly to blend still images, video, narration and pleasing, non-intrusive, music really is exceptional. Are you a videographer or an historian by training (or, quite probably, both)?
That means so much to me William. Thank you my friend. I’m neither of those things to be honest, although folk from those fields have inspired me! Until a few years ago I was a London cabbie, which marked my true education in this city’s history. Thanks again and stay well, I truly appreciate your kind words.
Thank you Rob for another fascinating look at yhe delights of London. After saying the tulip staircase was impractical as there were no resting places, I couldn't help but notice that even the mysterious ghost in the photo looked exhausted walking up them.
Awesome, what a great house the tulip staircase just devine. As for the photo definitely not your normal snap shot, strange phenomenon, but it's old do plausible. Very good research as always. We didn't visit that as we did the Observatory and the naval boys cos of dad. Thank you rob❤
How wonderful - thank you, Rob! As much as it would be good to still have the old palace of the Tudors still around, I must say that the stunning symmetry in white of all the buildings, now extant, are a beautiful wonder. It would be nice to see the old great hall paintings put back in their rightful place, along with original paint on surrounding beams, but the building's present lack of decor does have an appeal in its own right. A road through a royal house, or any house... my goodness! The Tulip Staircase! I first knew about it, not realising where it was really located, in 1973 when I read Peter Underwood's book, "Haunted London". I still have that very much re-read & tattered paperback in my library, now, and it started a lifetime of enjoying a good ghost story! I have never seen a ghost, myself, though! Sadly, we never did visit the Queen's House, nor Greenwich, whenever we went to London. Must try next time. I honestly need to live in the UK for months & months to see all the fantastic sites it offers, some very obscure and unfrequented by the masses. Looking forward to your next presentation!
Lovely video as always! I would love to visit a manor house or a palace without anyone else around. When there's no tourists around, you can inhale the history better.
Hello Rob Another excellent video. Have been to the Queen's house a couple of times. Greenwich has so much to offer. There is a famous picture of Henry VIII when he was young there is well. I have also taken a picture with a ghost in it which I took at Rose manor in Jamaica in 1988. They did say they had ghost. We did not get to Greenwich this last trip. Thanks for showing us. Take Care Chris and Sandra of Canada.
"We've got it all to ourselves " 😂...that will just you and me and our 13,074 mates then ? 😂 Did we all get here on the Thames River Sightseeing Cruises. That is how I got here many years ago. Ah, happy times ! I have recently been hearing about the Dean's Stairs ( through the Dean's Door around the side of St Paul's Cathedral) Not as beautiful as the Tulip Stairs but interesting to compare the architecture. Thank you so much for the super video....masterly presentation 👍
I hoped you would include the ghost photo. I wonder how many photos of that staircase in the hope of catching something. Thank you for another superb film.
What a beautiful house. Those stairs are stunning but made me feel dizzy because of the height. I felt sorry for the cleaner doing the floor in the great hall. Really showed how early you were. I think the early light made the house more beautiful. The work that went into it is amazing. However good a friend I would never have given the ceiling panels to someone else. The work on the grand hall floor is stunning. It was clever how the house was built around the road. The artwork on the ceiling that was left is something else. I can never get over how someone paints that at that height and so perfectly. I am glad you are getting the respect of other people to let you see places with more detail than the general public. As always very interesting video. Looking forward to the next one 😀.
Great vid Rob, what a wonderful staircase. I worked (selling Photocopiers for Canon UK) in Greenwich and across to Battersea in the early 90s, Greenwich is such a lovely town, Battersea less so LOL
Thanks Rob! A close friend of mine here in London has a partner from Portsmouth, a city where it's also difficult to get away from historic stuff. After watching your video, well researched as always, I think we really need to visit this place.
Many thanks Peter! Yes, Portsmouth is packed with history, I've been meaning to visit there as it's been many years since I've done so. Hope you make it to the Queen's House soon.
