I love ace hardware and the customer service at Home Depot sucks! Almost all of those big box stores service sucks. Now that I’m older I don’t like being treated like a second class citizen when I’m spending my hard earned money.
There's an ACE really close to me, I'm in there about once a week. They always have people to help me where as you can walk yourself to death at Home Depot just to find some help. As a home shop machinist they always have something that can get me by on a Sunday afternoon when the tool houses are closed.
It's because, EVERY OTHER STORE out there keeps focusing on moving their stuff to online sales, while you can go to Ace and find what you need without waiting forever. They do have special order items that they can order from their catalog, but the difficult to find stuff is in the store. I do wish that our local Ace Hardware here in Orlando area also sold lumber like the one in VA. But they are independently owned.
No Ace Hardware in my town anymore. Home Depot and Walmart chased them out. They couldn't compete and the brothers that owned were growing older and couldn't find a buyer.

Ace is the most convenient store in my area...they don't have everything but for something small and important...they almost always have it

My local Ace in Inyokern, CA sucks. It is far cheaper to go to Home Depot. Home Depot has far better service than Ace.
