- Alex Rudinger plays to Monuments' "Degenerate." Alex just filled in for Monuments' Mike Maylan on tour, as Mike was out for some health issues, but will be back soon. Alex chose to film this song, as he said that "Degenerate was my favorite Monuments song to play live. Even after doing it everyday for a month I still had just as much fun playing it as I did when I first learned it. Killer tune! "
Alex's cymbal set up from left to right, if sitting behind the it, is as follows:
- 18" Byzance Brilliant Medium Crash
- 14" Byzance Dark Hats
- 16" Byzance Brilliant China (Bottom)/13" Soundcaster Fusion Hi-Hat (Top) Stack
- 10" MB20 Rock Splash
- 13" Byzance Traditional Medium Hi Hats
- 22" MB20 Heavy Bell Ride
- 18" Byzance Traditional Medium Crash
- 20" Byzance Brilliant China

I do not understand why this doesnt have more views, like holy crap people Alex played this song note for note and there are multiple angles and not to mention great audio
damn that bass sounds good!
He is killing the drums with his eyes,
Already watched it once on Alex's channel! now again here, and shortly thereafter time to rewatch on Vic Firth's Channel! Killing it!
But the look on his face, smiling his head off through the whole track, priceless! :D
that snare is a cannon
They must have cranked the room a lot, or just didn't need to.
I know Im quite off topic but do anybody know of a good place to watch new movies online?

am I the only one who like the original intro to the song more?...
What kind of beaters are those?
Jesse Pinkman on drums! Hahaha
Sick.
+Jerry Travis Drums BITCH!
holy shit in what time signatures are these parts? some are 4/4 but then theres some weird stuff going on and its great!
It's all 4/4. The patterns the guitars are playing are not 4/4, but the time signature and snare are in 4/4, thus giving it a wonky feel. I believe that's what we call a polyrhythm, but I'm sure someone will correct me on that.
Everything is moving to a constant 4/4 pulse; there's just a lot of rhythmic stuff going on. Some of the guitar riffs are polymeters, so the patterns will displace oddly against the pulse, and that's what you hear the kick doing a lot. You have a little triplet feel (aka 6/8 feel, cut-time, etc.) thing going on at 3:13, and then some metric modulation at 3:27 (which can be perceived as a tempo change). All of it is still technically 4/4 though. And I agree, it's all very tasty!
***** I wish I could like this comment twice.
Jeffrey Fitzgerald I think a poly rhythm is when the drummer is doing more that one rudiment at once, changing the accents and stuff.
Adam Cho
a polyrhythm is two steady rhythms being played at the same time, for example a 2:3 (2 over 3) polyrhythm would be 2 notes played in the same space as three. the majority of this song is in 4/4, but there are some extended bars and rhythmically interesting sections. some polymeters, but not really any blaring examples of polyrhythms.
LOL! His face @ 3:02
vick firth beaters with speed cobra :D
mmmm creamy
this is really good, but watching his posture literally hurts my back.
I can see some Anup Sastry influence on this composition! After all, they're mates and share the studio.
As ***** already stated, most of this composition is Mike Malyan's creation (Monuments' drummer), and Alex is essentially doing a cover with some of his own spice here and there. I love me some Anup, but considering this song was written 5-6 years ago, I'd say the likelihood of it having any Anup influence is slim to none.
dat drumming... amazing
but 0 points for that haircut :D
Duh jent
meh, almost as good as Anup Sastry lol
+Alex S I prefer this to Anup's playthrough in all honesty. Part of that is probably due to the extra production and mixing effort that went into the drums for Alex's.
Cool man
+Alex S tell me you're joking, this has so much more groove than Anup's...
