    I got my first car at 16, a red 70 bug, in 1973. It was 3 years old, but already having problems.I loved that car though. Now that I'm old, I still wish I could find one like it and relive my youth. Have fun with your cars boys. There is nothing like the sound and feel of a beetle.

      Thank you! They're still out there, we got lucky with this one and, quite frankly, the rest of them. More to come, stay tuned. Thanks for watching!

      You CAN find one exactly like your old one....get one quick as they are getting harder to find ...even the 1969, 1970 and nice ones are going up in price fast....

    So did you enjoy it ?..."yeah".....you can get a voltage from for your wipers....and some Rain X for your windshield .....nice little car; get the little issues worked out and I bet it will serve you well....I am suprised someone at the show didnt get it running right for you....you should be able to drive down to Florida with no worries...remember ...the issues with reliability ....are not the car's fault.....great video...loved it

    5hat konking out and re starting wasn't the coil or was it an issue with the engine getting hot

    A properly tuned vw will out last a modern car. Check your modern car out in 40 or 50 years. See if it still runs and drives the same

    • @lancenutter1067
      @lancenutter1067 Год назад

      I disagree. They dropped valves, leaked oil, rusted, and the fuel lines were a horrible material, to name a few things that would go wrong… they are kept alive because they have a special something about them. But it’s not their mechanics… I used to laugh when people told me how many miles were on their old bugs, then they’d reveal they were on their 4th engine rebuild or whatever. My mom and dad had 2 new ones in the 60’s and many old ones thereafter. Pretty much horrible cars. Didn’t heat, didn’t defog, and gutless wonders. Still like them but we can’t kid ourselves…

    • @lpz3665
      @lpz3665 Год назад +1

      @Lance Nutter you are right on all counts. But the cars are made of thicker metal to last 50years ... and the car was designed to be worked on by the common man. Today's cars have to much tech. Gdi clogs valves. vvt solenoids fail. The high tech fuel saving crap is making new cars almost disposable. But nobody is working on anything and young mechanics are falling short.

    • @lancenutter1067
      @lancenutter1067 Год назад +1

      @@lpz3665 they definitely are easy to work on. I remember dad one time, again, dropped a valve on the way home from work. Early 1980’s. He swore he was going to drive the car to work the next day. We got the engine out and replaced a piston and cylinder head on it and had it running by 2am, and he drove to work the next day. I was in high school. Was pretty impressed. My last beetle blew an engine in 1983 on Deadman’s pass in Oregon and I traded it for a super nice 1967 Dodge Polara with a 383. I really miss the Polara hahha but the beetle, not so much… interesting cars based on 1930’s technology. Would I want one now? Yeah I’d love an early 1960’s version. But, I have enough projects now, so at this point won’t be getting one.

    • @lpz3665
      @lpz3665 Год назад +1

      @Lance Nutter I'm restoring a 74 vw orange love bug. My first car was a 71 super beetle. So I'm going for the nostalgia drive. I'm 57 yrs old and almost ready to retire. I'm updating the sound deadening and an A/C from an ev car. This engine is built for power and reliability. It's not going to ride like my escalade, but should be more fun to drive. Everybody has a story of these crazy little cars. Your memory of you and your dad getting that car going again is a common one. Especially in the 70s and 80s. Now they just buy a new car

    • @lancenutter1067
      @lancenutter1067 Год назад +1

      @@lpz3665 that’s awesome! I’m 58. I drove my very horrible 1968 Bug down the Alaska highway to college in 1983. It broke down multiple times, and was certainly an adventure. I went through Seattle during rush hour; it was overheating, smoking and, wouldn’t start with the key so I was scared to death it was going to stall… Snoqualmie pass, it started smoking super badly. But I got to the top. It cooled and kept going. Made it into Oregon but Deadman’s pass was the death sentence heheh. I didn’t make it in that car, thus the trade for the Polara, which I kept and drove back home in the spring with no issues. Will never forget that old piece of junk. I remember my dad took it to a VW repair guy (we lived in Fairbanks Alaska) before I left and asked him if it would make it 2500 miles. He said, it “probably would”. It made it about 2300 miles, lol. I was heading to Idaho.
