- Manchester City is delighted to announce that work is to commence on the ground-breaking City Football Academy.
BAM Construction has been selected as the construction partner.
This is a landmark project for the Club. City are to build a state of the art youth development and first team training facility on an 80 acre site adjacent to the Etihad Stadium.
BAM, a leader in sustainable construction and part of Royal BAM Group, will begin work on the plot, which forms part of the Etihad Campus, in the coming weeks and are due to complete the project in time for the 2014/15 Premier League season.
The building of the Academy, which will provide a centre for up to 400 young players as well as housing the first team training base and the Club's operations functions, follows four years of extensive research and planning by City across five continents and more than 30 elite sport development centres.
The City Football Academy will include the following:
A new Academy for up to 400 young players with classrooms for 200
On site accommodation for junior and senior players
16.5 football pitches, 12 of them dedicated to players aged from 8 to 21
A state of the art first team building with changing rooms, gym, refectory and injury and rehab centre
A 7000 capacity stadium for youth matches
Staff offices and a dedicated media centre
A bridge linking the site to the Etihad Stadium and the rest of the Etihad Campus
"Today is an extremely important day for the future of Manchester City Football Club," declared Blues CEO Ferran Soriano
"We are now in a position, after four years of research and planning, to execute that strategy and we are delighted to join with BAM who will play a large part in helping us to do so."
BAM Chief Executive Graham Cash, echoed the words of the Blues boss.
"Our customers value BAM because our people do whatever it takes to deliver our customers' expectations," he said.
"We are delighted to be part of the team that will deliver the City Football Academy and we will work hard to play our part in delivering MCFC's vision of both developing the players of the future and helping to regenerate the community of East Manchester."
And Manchester City Council is delighted with the scheme.
"This project lies at the heart of the ambitions we share with Manchester City Football Club to create a centre of sporting excellence that will be the envy of the world," enthused Sir Richard Leese, leader of Manchester City Council.
"It is as clear a demonstration you can get of the commitment of the club to our city as a whole and local people in East Manchester in particular."
The exciting project has the overwhelming support of the local community, 98% of which - following extensive consultation last year - gave the proposals its wholehearted endorsement.
The club's neighbours recognised the positive impact of the plans on youth football development, on the economic and environmental regeneration of the local area and on the increased facilities for the local community within which the Manchester City resides.
As part of its long standing commitment to the community, the Club has donated 5.5 acres of remediated land on the site for community use, and is also supporting the creation of education and leisure facilities for local residents.

The most amazing thing about this video is it's been delivered
Brightest future in England and certainly one of the brightest futures in world football. This is proof that the money is not being solely invested in the current first team. When this is complete, I can only imagine top of the range youth players coming through the academy and first-team players only getting better. I've heard a lot about us implementing a certain style of play and by bringing the youth players much closer to the first team with this academy, it can only work. Future is bright.. Bright blue. CTWD!
Le nouveau centre d'entrainement du PSG sera le meilleur au monde
This is absolutely amazing. I'm a united fan but forget all the talk about city investing money if it means doing something like this. The youth set up plus the fact that they will be bringing in Guardiola means that they will have a bright future. Cheers to u guys.
thanks mate
Respect

I'm lucky enough to live within walking distance of the stadium. I'm proud of this development not only as a fan of the club but for the undoubted rejuvenation and opportunity this development is going to bring to an area that is desperate need of it. Well done MCFC.
They won the FA Cup 61 years before Liverpool and were the first English club to win a domestic and European trophy in the same season. This is the club that was playing in third tier of English football as recently as 13 years ago, but once drew a Maine Road crowd of 84,569 that remains the biggest attendance at any English ground outside of Wembley.
History? We’ve got it by the bucket-load
I'm a fan of Real Madrid and I really liked the remodeling of the Santiago Bernabeu stadium ... But this project has no comparison is simply unbelievable that give me great envy. Excellent hopefully many other clubs take the example is given in Manchester City. It's awesome!
i'm not a city supporter, i dont even come from Manchester, but i really admire what MCFC is doing in the local community, well done :D
Exciting times ahead for City fans!
Abu Dhabi you are doing an incredible job !
Woow my little 9 years old brother is buzzing. Im so happy for him to be a part of that amazing new city academy ..
guess your brother is 18 now 🤣🤣🤣
I'm an lfc fan but I've gotta say.... Wow! That is incredibly impressive. What money can buy eh??!!
This is absolutely wonderful, lovely idea and the presenting looks absolutely brilliant, i hope it will look exactly the same when it has been build !
The Glazers are still milking the Trafford trash, looking for loans at the transfer deadline! while we the MANCHESTER club, well, it's just mind blowing! Thanks again Sheik Mansour, your making Mancunians and City fans, very very proud
They both improved even more with City...
Every club has history - both good and bad - but if you are measuring heritage purely in terms of success than I'd like to point out that when City won the FA Cup in 1904 it was the first time a major national trophy had been won by a Mancunian club.
City won a trophy four years before Manchester United, 26 years before Arsenal and 51 years before Chelsea.
Looks amazing!
gorgeous.
Amazing, best regards from Sudamerica.
Great to see another club trying to develop their youths like Middlesbrough and Aston Villa, that other Boro fan didn't know what he was getting in to..
Danny Welbeck, Darren Fletcher, Tom Cleverley, Jonny Evans, Giuseppe Rossi, Craig Cathcart, Magnus Wolff Eikrem, Kieran Richardson, Darron Gibson, Will Keane, Ryan Tunnicliffe, Gerard Piqué. Bear in mind Piqué was a defensive midfielder before he arrived at United.

What a great project. But the stadium will stay at 48000 places ~ ? No up to 60000 ?
will we still have carrington?
But who will direct this thats the better question? R who will develop the players
i lovee !
is manchester city the best place to play or what
I'm a united fan but you can quite clearly see Mansour is far more capable of making shrewd, long-term investments than abramovich.
And also the UEFA FFP rules thankfully mean this kind of investment is more likely to happen. I really hope kids can play on that community field, that would be really nice.
You say all that but that doesn't make it any less true that all of Man City's success has been bought.
i dont care if people say im a glory seeker for supporting man city but look at this then look what other clubs have done and you now see why me and many other people now support city
Already started..
Beaauutifaaal!
Yeah, but we created Scholes, Giggs, Beckham, two Nevilles, Cleverley, etc.
City? What have they made? They only have one notable youth product and it's Richards (Hart is not a City youth product).
How can teams afford this
How much is that Sun costing them?
is this also for the youth? o.o
Maaaaanchester acadamy likes a barcelona academy we found secound Messi !
thats nice :)
How can they afford this, we are in the middle of a credit crunch something isn't right how can it not effect football at all?
Hopefully this will become the next La Masia

I don't see how the two situations can be compared. United were spending money they generated themselves. City were bought buy an Arab oil tycoon and are spending his money. In the 92/93 season, City spent 3.4m, United spent 2.3m. In the 93/94 season, City spent 8.2m on transfers, United spent 3.85m (3.75m of that was on Roy Keane, they only signed 2 players that year, City brought in the likes of Uwe Rosler, David Rocastle, Paul Walsh etc.) United weren't spending a great amount more.
The purpose of this facility is not to produce home grown youth talent, but to create a 400m offset to the club debt for compliance with the FFP rules.
The chances of any youth player making it to the first team are nil.
englisch football clubs should come to holland and watch how you do make talents into great players
Reds and the word "If" pmsl
ima se, meže se!
nice
but in england only the biggest talents make it in the netherlands they make the talents better by letting them play in the firsst squad
but i hope for england that man city will be close to ajax so they can finally develop more great players
but not everyone have that much money.. just brilliant people can be rich like that..
Blowin hot air... I'll believe it when I see it. GGMU!
hello from the future,it's been opened over a year now
go and have a visit
Elias Khan look how long ago I posted... 2 years ago
City were a prem team the same as Boro.
was against stoke in a F.A. cup match google it
They should have started with these reconstruction plans and gradually formulated the blueprint you are talking about year by year and not buy a new squad, throw a dart in the dark and hope to hit bulls eye and then say let's go back to the original step 1 in any sports club
im from middlesbrough:O
