Alan Tudyk was great in the pilot. He broke the fourth wall too many times to count as the narrator/ Mr. Nobody and I liked the way he poked fun at the characters during their origin stories. This show is gonna get good real fast.
The doom patrol comics are filled with prostitutes, drugs, and gay and transgender characters (specially the grant morrison´s era from the 80s) I don´t know how they can do a "good" doom patrol show without an R rating. About titans, there were a couple moments with too much violence and edginess for my taste (like robin´s first fight, or beast boy going after the guy who tortured him) but it wasn´t too distracting, and I enjoyed the series overall (I think people underestimate how faithful to the comics the titans show really is, and how extremly dark was the 80s era of the characters, with perez and wolfman, where we can literally see child abuse, and the other titans have to stop starfire from killing the bad guys all the time xDxD)
dc already has the younger audience with the cw shows. with these shows its completely fair for them to go more adult. the marvel netflix shows did so why not?
Because the Marvel shows did so with characters that were naturally more adult oriented. This isn’t to to say that the Titans comics weren’t mature, but the vast majority of the general population that knows who the Titans are is because of the cartoon tv show which could be watched by kids and adults alike. Not to mention the resurgence of that tv show for another season, it’ll only pull in more younger audiences. Just imagine if Marvel made a dark tv series about the Fantastic Four.

How long will it take elastiwoman to control her powers. I mean she must’ve had at least 30 years since she fell into the water and got her powers right? But I did like the pilot

Also, I think DC is doing the right in keeping up with it's DARK themed shows & movies kinda like how we fell in love with them from the comics, true it will attract less audiences, but genuine audiences, that quality over quantity type of mentality, better to have 5 fans who truly love what you do, than to have 500 following because everyone else is.
Short answer: Elasti-Woman's face keeps melting because when Geoff Johns brought her back he made her powers more like Clayface's then Plastic Man's in order to better explain why she was on a "freak team" like the Doom Patrol. Long answer: When the Chief cloned Rita a new body after Infinite Crisis, he sought to "improve" on her powers by removing her bones. One of the side effects was that she needed to constantly concentrate in order to hold her form. Following the New 52 reboot, when the Doom Patrol takes on the Justice League, Elasti-Woman's face is shown to melt a bit in the middle of the battle, hinting that this aspect of her powers is still part of her character. I can't recall if anything similar happened to her in the pages of the most recent run of Doom Patrol, but it wouldn't be the weirdest things that happened in a Young Animal book.
Lol. You do know that R rated comic book films go back to the early 70s? The first big hit was Akira and if you exclude Anime then the Crow was huge and arguably the Punisher too, although the former was infinitely better.
I honestly appreciate they rated R for Doom Patrol, yeah they can explore dark themes without it but I just feel these big companies shouldn't censor everything - leave something for the adults. They have plenty of kids shows on here they'll be fine not watching this one show.
I watched Alien, Aliens, Robocop, Die Hard and Predator when I was around 11-12, they are far more graphic than Doom Patrol is so far, if kids want to see it, they'll see it and I doubt they will be affected by it.
I like Brandon Fraiser as well! He was a popular actor back in the 90's, nice to see him back doing stuff. Now if only we could get back Rick Moranis...
I really enjoyed the pilot episode for Doom Patrol. It was weird, goofy and just plain fun. Really enjoyed Brenden Fraser as Cliff Steele/voice of Robotman. Also love the re-cast of the Chief from the Titans episode, the Chief for the show is quirky, eccentric and fun. Really hope that as the series goes own Elasta Woman gets control of her powers and is more like how there shown in the comics. Can’t wait to see more of Mr. Nobody
This show has everything it's funny, sad, dramatic and full of action the only thing I thought was unnecessary was the nudity but other than that I'm loving it so far.
The shoehorning in negative man has a wife and kids but he's gay seemed pretty unneeded and just shoved in for some representation points. I don't remember him being gay or having a wife and kid in the comics. The randomness of the 5 second scene to go look we have a gay character just seemed really crammed in and offered nothing. Particularly given overall the writing in the episode seemed pretty solid it made it all the weirder.
@@kreeperrock This is the same character who merged with a doctor and had sex with himself in the comics... Him being gay doesn't even scratch the surface of all the random & wierd things about him...

The only thing they do when they make it R-rated is add nudity and swearing. In Titans, they added gore. But take out 3 of these, and you still get the same story and plot... that is to say that, if the plot is story is weak, it will show regardless of what the rating is. I would definitely prefer a PG-13 version of these, cos I feel that writers use the adult-theme wrong, seeming to think they have a 'means' of putting plaster on poor story/plot/direction
An R rating can also help the story feel real. Take Robotman for example, his rants & tangents wouldn't feel as real if he wasn't swearing. The whole point of Doom Patrol is that they're wacky & wierd, but also sad & depressing. Giving them an R rating allows them to explore more topics. Such as Robotmans dysfunctional marriage.
Yeetimus Prime: I agree somewhat. But I also think the writers make wrong use of it. Doom Patrol still seemed fine, given the tone, but Titans is a very good example of what I'm talking about.

Wasn't planning on watching this show, but after watching this video it sounds really good 👍, so thanks for the recomendation! Just finished the original Teen Titans show and my first introduction to the Doom Patrol was in Season 5. Great timing of this show now!
Maybe I’m selfish, but I like the adult themes. Plus, I think they already have family friendly shows on the CW. So I think they need an adult alternative. Plus, if you read a lot of comics nowadays a lot of the subject matter is pretty adult. Even for the main heroes like X-men and justice league.
Variant Comics thank you for all youre amazing work, you make watching of Movies and TV Shows based on Comics A LOT more interesting and understandable to follow.Could you, PLEASE, make another video on Doom Patrol, if you find the time., the first season just ended and it I think there are a lot of us who whould appreciate youre view on of the show VS Comics or a review and/or explanation or a complete season (per episode, if its not 2 much). Greetings from Serbia to awesome crew who makes this channel so cool
I'm really confused why they chose cyborg instead of beastboy for doom patrol. Not really upset about it but it's strange they would replace an integral chracter with another when they already have a beast boy.
Robot man was awesome. Thanks for telling me about Chief. I do like this show better than titans and Crazy Jane rocks! Thank you for your review. Yeah better start but dunno. People just don’t know these characters like titans but I do love the pilot. It just screams what a pilot is.
So yeah Doom Patrol was good, but you know there was another live action comic book series which dropped this weekend. The Umbrella Academy on Netflix, which I found was way better than Doom Patrol. Why no review on this show?? I know they were distributed by Dark Horse, but it is under the DC banner. Since you only review everything "comics" that is only DC or Marvel. I hope you'll have a review of this show soon.

@@acronyx991 I wasn´t talking to you, I was talking to Edgar Feliciano. Umbrella academy is cool, but is not that different from shows like Happy, or Preacher, or Powers. I like it too, but it had some bad moment through the season (and the original comicbook is not that great either)
Question what was supposed to be The Last one Born but The First one Born? Kronos? The Soldiers Destiny. I'm sorry Kronos you were supposed to say Simon says what Is a Soldiers Destiny. No?
Thank you I’m all for a mature Batman spin off but I find it hypocritical that people would cheer for a hard r entry in a series that has been aim at kids and adults yet when something like the terminator gets a pG 13 suddenly it’s alienating the target audience.

The pacing was really good for DC's recent releases. I am looking forward to more!
Was waiting for this.
Robotman is the best part of the first episode
Dont forget "Monkey Bone" and "Bedazzled" he was in those too
Good review. I saw the show the other day and also thought it was fun.
The show looks awsome.
So far, I am quite impressed by the pilot and it looks like it will be a success. The pacing and character development is just awesome .
Is Swamp thing in the same universe like this?
This man is part the reason we dont get rated r comic movies…”it can still be mature with pg13 blah blah blah” tellin em that shit
Wasn't planning on watching this show, but after watching this video it sounds really good 👍, so thanks for the recomendation! Just finished the original Teen Titans show and my first introduction to the Doom Patrol was in Season 5. Great timing of this show now!
you forgot to mention Air Heads another Brendon Frasier classic
Will you do a review/history of umbrella Academy.. they made a live action on Netflix
Watched the pilot and excited for the rest of the season
I was suprised how great this show is and amazing casting
Varient is the best channel for Comic fans.
I'm really confused why they chose cyborg instead of beastboy for doom patrol. Not really upset about it but it's strange they would replace an integral chracter with another when they already have a beast boy.
Rita reminded me of a uncontrolled clayface when she started shifting
I will check this out
Good to see Fraser getting work, especially on something like this.
@CLUB BRENDAN damn can I just be happy for my boy after everything he's been through?
Nah man the adult theme suits this show really well.
The Chief always thinks different.
You reckon they’re field-testing Cyborg here so they can eventually add him to Titans, like the cartoon?
I haven’t watched the CW shows, but these shows are pretty freaking awesome. Actually surprised how much I like them.
I didn't care or watch titans but that trailer sold me to show and I can say this can be best Dc live action show on Tv.
In the UK only hope it comes to Netflix, fingers crossed. When will Warner bros learn these comics have a world wide audience.
It is in 3 months
Robot man was awesome. Thanks for telling me about Chief. I do like this show better than titans and Crazy Jane rocks! Thank you for your review. Yeah better start but dunno. People just don’t know these characters like titans but I do love the pilot. It just screams what a pilot is.
I believe it’s better for the movie to be r rated as it allows the director and everyone behind the scenes to show off their skills.
Does anyone know if the DC universe shows get released on dvd/blu ray after a season is over like regular tv shows?
Probably since DC is known to use the home video market the most.
I enjoy the difference in tone and robotman is easily my favourite character
So yeah Doom Patrol was good, but you know there was another live action comic book series which dropped this weekend. The Umbrella Academy on Netflix, which I found was way better than Doom Patrol. Why no review on this show?? I know they were distributed by Dark Horse, but it is under the DC banner. Since you only review everything "comics" that is only DC or Marvel. I hope you'll have a review of this show soon.
The Pilot of Doom Patrol was better than Unbrella Academy's. Also, there are more Umbrella Academy episodes, so you can't really compare.
@@DBZZNow His overall point still stands though. He should make a video on Umbrella Academy, it would be nice to watch. Overall personally i thought It was a great season and im really looking forward to the next one.
How can you compare an entire season to a pilot episode..?? BTW, I lik both, but people are clearly digging doom patrol more. Also, the doom patrol comics are way more legendary (and older) than the umbrella academy. He probabily will do both, tho.
@@gabrielp9646 I never said doom patrol was bad, it was a great episode. People here are undderating umbrella academy for some reason though.
@@acronyx991 I wasn´t talking to you, I was talking to Edgar Feliciano. Umbrella academy is cool, but is not that different from shows like Happy, or Preacher, or Powers. I like it too, but it had some bad moment through the season (and the original comicbook is not that great either)
Can you review the entire season
I have no clue as to why they did Elasti Woman the way they have
Lets hear it for legion... Oops I mean crazy Jane.
Hello can u plz a video about who would win in a fight superman or one punch man(Saitama)
Easily one of the BEST DC TV pilot show of all TIME
What channel is it on
DC Universe, an US exclusive streaming service.
Yes titans had a rough start but looking at how they're doing doom patrol it looks like theres hope for season 2 of titan!
I absolutely loved the first episode
Trust me when I say. THE NARRATOR is the key to the show. They need him at every episode every season
can you do a video on the origins of the umbrella academy due to it's release on netflix.
