    Seeing a poki in a natural setting is so much more interesting than via a video taken by some guy with lots of money who's never been further "outside" than the perimeter of his/her garden, bragging about how experienced they are with tarantulas.

    I learned the poecilotheria Subfusca has two forms. Highland and lowland form. The one that you captured on film is the lowland form, Aka Poecilotheria Bara.

    • @birdspiders
      @birdspiders  5 лет назад

      Vortex 220 the one that I filmed here is the highland form, living above 1600 meters above sea level. There is another species indeed, the "lowland" form, which lives around 400 meters above sea level and grows significantly larger

      @@birdspiders I must've read it wrong, I thought the lowland form had more white on the carapace.

    Thank you for this interesting, informative and educational video. It is very nice to watch these tarantulas in their natural living space, other than in captivity. So often I ask myself if these plastic containers, glass or acrylic enclosures are not way too small for them, in which they have to live. Maybe they don‘t need a lot of space bc they are ambush predators for example, but a life in a shoe box could not be very satisfying - not either for a spider, I think. Or am I completely wrong?
    I am very afraid of spiders but I love to watch tons of videos about them bc they are so fascinating. A few months ago I didn‘t know that there are tarantulas in blue, pink, purple and so on with all these patterns... I love it.😍
    Just subscribed and go on with your amazing work.👍🏼😊

    • @birdspiders
      @birdspiders  6 лет назад +1

      what a comment! Thanks a lot for your interest :)
      as you state correctly, tarantula spiders are ambush predators and therefore do not need a lot of space to feel comfortable. So yes, a shoebox might actually be a very good house, in case that shoebox offers them protection, a dark hide and the right temperature. It's difficult to explain and a lot of people do not want to understand this, as they always think about how much space their cat needs fot example :)
      all in all, tarantulas are very good pet animals, as they are totally fine with living in tight places, as they prefer it anyway

    Why do the locals not like if a foreigner is interested in there spiders ? It seems very strange to me .

    • @birdspiders
      @birdspiders  6 лет назад +2

      it is not strange, as wildlife is protected in many countries around the globe. Poecilotheria species got smuggled a lot a few years back, thats why we all are having these as pet tarantulas now. Forest rangers seeing you searching for tarantulas brings you in big trouble in Sri Lanka and other countries, as they don't distinguish between "research and personal pictures" and "smuggling and stealing spiders"
