Hello Evan, Greetings from Oman! Glad you liked the Hamour. One of the main reasons for the tender texture of the meat of this fish is that its natural habitat is not deep sea but rocks along the coastline. So, its body is designed to squeeze through tight rock crevices. Love your videos.
The hamour is a fish that I used to dig into more often. It is extremely tasty, whether fried (like Evan had) or stewed, like I used to like with, with a spot of rice or veggies. I and my father once fished out an entire lot out of 23 - 25 of em' during a rainy day by the creek side and shared with it with the entire community we lived in.
As soon as this started with spices/seasoning/digestive talk. . no doubt this vid is about Evan haha Man that language barrier must have been a bitch to deal with. .Especially the captions (cheers to the fella that had to rewind the scenes over and over to transcribe them! Reminds me of when I was in dirt poor yemen. You can buy the fish fresh off the boat, have it buitterflied, spiced with seasning, chilii paste and lemon, then cooked in a clay oven. With a side of fresh tandoor bread, fenugreek and salsa ( zhoug). Best fish ever!!! nothing like it anywhere and all for a pittance. Meanwhile I have ate at some fine dining seafood establishments in the usa looking for something similar, you cant find anything even clsoe to it here.
With him on the fresh fish discussion... we have several restaurants that will cook your catch which is nice. Fish you buy in the stores due to regulations etc is unfortunately not very fresh... Cool video of the markets!
This video is great! I'd like to point out that most languages spoken in this video are Indian/Urdu, and not Arabic. This video shows how the Indians and Pakistanis are great salesmen. They mastered this game of selling at local markets.
