  • The Huguenots were famously influential on London's silk trade. They were refugees who fled France at the end of the 17th century with many of them settling in the East End's Spitalfields. Fashion historian Amber Butchart has been looking at why their legacy still looms large today.

With a name like Chasteen (originally Chastain, as in Dr. Pierre Chastain) you know I am of Huguenot lineage. I want to thank every Englishman/woman for giving us a chance. We struggled and died died but ultimately became citizens of the English World. Yep, we revolted (George Washington's grandparents were of Huguenot descent), but even then it was not like most revolts. All the good French left France. Thanks again England.

The people of Québec, that went to New France, predominantly come from the Pays de Caux (Normandie) and Poitou, the two French northern Huguenot centers.
