- The Huguenots were famously influential on London's silk trade. They were refugees who fled France at the end of the 17th century with many of them settling in the East End's Spitalfields. Fashion historian Amber Butchart has been looking at why their legacy still looms large today.
With a name like Chasteen (originally Chastain, as in Dr. Pierre Chastain) you know I am of Huguenot lineage. I want to thank every Englishman/woman for giving us a chance. We struggled and died died but ultimately became citizens of the English World. Yep, we revolted (George Washington's grandparents were of Huguenot descent), but even then it was not like most revolts. All the good French left France. Thanks again England.
y'en a qui sont restés quand même

John 3:16-21
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
Mark 1.15
15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.
2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
Hebrews 11:6
6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

I’m an American, my family has been in the US for generations. My fathers family can be traced back to Britain, and in an old family document we have records that were descended from Huguenots who took refuge in England!
A certain Winston Churchill was a descendant of Huguenots on his American mother’s side. Her ancestors had likewise fled to England then later migrated across to America.
Roosevelt was a descendant of a Huguenot family too ,the Delano's ( Delannoy).

Wondered where the woke bit would be shoehorned in and there it was right at the death with 'refugees'. Highly skilled grafters of that period is stark contrast to today BBC with economic migration of angry young men from no idea where looking to game the system in their droves and doing so but keep rewriting history you're good at it.👍
I'm really sorry you've been taught this way, and I hope someday these demons stop trying to deceive us all for their gain.
YOU NAILED IT!!! 👍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
lol You dumb sheep, believe everything a newsowner and Tory donor says don’t you?
Exactly! Lol and even look at the word refuge the origin..it's acadian for the acadians smh
Good ol’ BBC promoting diversity and multiculturalism again
The sephardi jew and moors that fled Spain that's why you see the black man on the far left , a lot of mixed race (free blacks) of the American south states n Caribbean are huganants like the first man to put a PLANTATION on the island of Dominica jannot rolle a mixed race French man
Yes...the Heming and Henriquez families!
@kurimeo ahua, does like 20hrs on them!
Huguenots were European Protestants that fled to European Protestant countries. I'm sure this hasn't crossed the mind of the people making this documentary but the immigrants shown are neither Christian or European.
AND? Your point?
I have Huguenot heritage.
Tony Cottee, Ricky Gervais, Alison Moyet, Simon le Bon, Nigel Farage
The people of Québec, that went to New France, predominantly come from the Pays de Caux (Normandie) and Poitou, the two French northern Huguenot centers. Sadly, there was no religious tolerance back then, so their fate in New-France was predictable, and much like the one for the many who remained in France.
Most Quebec was always catholic, isn't?
@@Diego-tm3dj Did anyone check where they came from in France? The answer will surprise you.
@@donpula6349 Well, in France the situation was impossible. So you find, I think, all sorts of adaptations. Some converted, some left, and that was done over generations. So maybe the dad converted, but the kids only converted later. In Quebec they are "Catholic on paper" but they come from these areas, where all thr troubles are happening.
@@donpula6349 I am unfamiliar with their history thank you. I wonder though, there must have been differences in terms of financial circumstances. Those that were recruited (New-France, was mostly recruited people who were paid to come) were desperatly poor. Same as those recruited for SA.
@@donpula6349 The Huguenots that were recruited for South Africa were dirt poor. And the theoretically- newly converted in Quebec, were also dirt poor. They were three times more likely to know how to read and write though.
I guess, those that left France on their own tended to be better off financially.
But many more took the blunt of the social and economic discrimination against protestants.
great video. I am looking for my Huguenot ancestor Duvall.
He's in Hollywood and is called Robert
@@zezinharias sorry, what ARE you, eight?!!! GROW up!

It's just French. In France everyone is French unlike the US
Oops something happened in Africa the French are trying to hide

Thfpttt!
The Huguenots were white European Protestants from France. Not black Moors.
Where did you hear that?

Dosen't really work when they are talking about skilled european immigrants from centuries ago tho... rather that unskilled third worlders. Dosen't translate no matter what the BBC claims
Their is book out their that shows the huguenots as blacks
@@danyelahtabaat4808 Islam (Peace), @danyelah Tabaat. They and their descendants were/are not 'black', since 'black' is a colorable, corporate construct. But, the Huguenots were dark-skinned people; Moors.
@@renefoley No they're not. You people must have transitate in some shithole site of conspiracy theories to came up with this nonsense hahahaha They're as white as any French.
@@iAlexSpritesify, Islam. First of All, I'm not "You people". Secondly, 'White' and 'Black' are not skin complexions, but are legal status. My skin is dark and my legal status is White. I'm a Moorish-American, a Moor of America and have the history, law and genealogical records to prove it. Furthermore, French is a nationality and has NOTHING to do with skin complexion.
FYI: The first known inhabitants of France were the Grimaldi. Also, in the 3rd century B.C., Hannibal Barca Bey and the Moors penetrated into France as far as Tarascon. In addition, during the 8th century A.D., the Moors inhabited southern France; and in 1610 A.D., a million or so Moors from Spain settled in France at the invitation of Henry IV. All of these people were dark, copper-colored, tawny, olive complexioned people whose legal status was 'White'.

This textile machinery still exist in west Africa I think it came from here since the huguenots were black
What do you mean they were black?
They were Black Europeans. Black Europeans were exiled to West Africa. Their inventions were made in Europe prior to being exiled again and some married Whites. They were here in North America during colonial times.
@@chrisfrederiksen1358 yes, Black
I thought the same thing when I saw it, that machine was also used by the indigenous peoples of the Americas.
@@BrotherKnowtheledge Don't pay too much attention to those claims. It's pretty much some black pan africanist trying to find some history to be proud of as black people but the only way to do it for them is to "rewrite" european history claiming that the black played a major role or even that most europeans were actually blacks.
The same as muslims conditions
Islamophobs may cause bad events to muslims in france these days too!!!
Well after the Paris attack and the time a Muslim student beheaded a french teacher in Broad daylight because he showed a caricature of prophet Muhammad.
I think the french are justified this time.
Yeah yeah all the refugees are good if they have skills and can contribute to the economy

The Huguenots were black Moors!
And they hide under the title of French Protestants and hopped Country to Country buying up land and marrying into prominent Families and were chattel slave owners while some were indentured servants for a period of time!!!
Also came to America as Irish and German as well.
@@bintamirfreeland4159 Exactly. George Washington was a descendant of Huguenots. Paul rever, Abraham Lincoln, only to name a few. But you are exactly correct.
@@ghostmusic769 Their original mass migration was when they were kicked out of their land in France for not excepting religion or the catholic religion to use a better term. Then they scattered everywhere so whatever land they were banished to they represented but still kept the title of Huguenot so they could practice their religion in secret .
